wasn't quite sure if we were both thinking the same thing at first.Using google translate i scanned the rest of the german thread and couldn't see anyone pick up on the obvious suspiciousness of this. Sm posted on fb that he had £300 stolen from his room the day before the alleged events occurred(from selling his bike maybe?)

Yeh I don't think it works well through the translation.

I read it in a way that if I was to write it I would say...

My friend made it sound like Sean was more involved in the murder.

7th post down in this page and it's in german http://forum.thailand-tip.com/index.php?topic=16670.msg1145333;topicseen

i mentioned this post yesterday, on previous page here. I originally found it as someone on another forum had linked to it and worked out what time it was posted and said it was posted the same night but , crucially, before SM began posting about being in fear of his life. Maybe I'll be able to find that post, we shall see. Any fluent germans here?

I'm German.

Translated post from 21 September 2014, 22:39:28:

Hi, a friend of mine has been living on Koh Tao for the past 10 years (he is Thai) and he works in the bar next door ... whatever.

He just told me that police really arrested the one in a cave, and a Scottish guy who apparently is a drug addict and was responsible for the music that night. Apparently someone saw him that night full of blood and remembered that today ... so he was arrested as well tonight about 6pm ... Huh? Huh? His name is said to be Sean McAnna ... He wanted to stay on Koh Tao for 6 months, had already bought a motorbike and tried to get rid of it after the murders to get his hands on some money ...

Very mysterious.

"Police free bar owners and look for ex-village headman's son
The Nation / Phuket Gazette
PHUKET: Police are looking for the son of a former Koh Tao village headman in their pursuit of the killers of two British backpackers on the night of September 14, after learning that the man left the island the following morning.

A police source said the man they want to find landed on the Surat Thani coast and disappeared. Police say they want to interrogate him first.

The police last night released two men, who own Intouch Bar and AC Pub on the resort island, after interrogating them for three hours and finding no evidence linking them to the crime.

One of the two men released last night, who reporters did not identify, said he was unable to contact his son and did not know if he had a hand in the killings.

Another man, the younger brother of the former village headman, who is believed to be the man seen on a security camera near the crime scene, is still in custody." - See more at: http://www.phuketgazette.net/thaila...ners-look-exvillage-headmans/35991#ad-image-0

"Local people and tourism operators on the island yesterday attended an annual religious rite to make merit for their deceased loved ones. They also made merit for the slain Britons and prayed that the police would be able to arrest the killers.

Meanwhile, a police source said it was not possible that people on the island did not have any knowledge of what might have happened on the night of the murder. The source said may be they don't want to talk to police, as they do not want to have problems with an influential group."

Wow--I'm a few days behind, just catching up. My first impression, though, is this guy sounds like he's trying to insert himself into the story after the fact, to get his 15 minutes of fame.

"Police scour Bangkok for Koh Tao murder suspect

POST REPORTERS

Surat Thani police are asking their Bangkok counterparts to hunt for another person of interest in the murders of two British tourists on Koh Tao last week.

He is said to be a close aide of a village headman on Koh Tao whose younger brother was taken for questioning Tuesday. Police did not divulge his name.

A police source said investigators found the close aide of Woraphan Tuwichian, 49, who is a village headman and the owner of the AC Bar, is likely to know something about the murders of the two British tourists, Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24.

The wanted man has fled the island and gone into hiding in Bangkok, Pol Lt Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8, said Tuesday".

Could you translate this post also.

My pleasure :)

"Sean McAnna ... yes that's the guy my friend talked about. Only he made it sound as if he has something to do with it ... am really excited, if he knows something there should soon be a hint coming who the murderers are ..

Still, all very weird ... why are people only remembering all this now ... Sad, a whole week has passed already."

That's my impression as well. It seems all too convenient that this one guy who's had his face in the press since the start, the first (I believe) to post on DM's FB very soon after the fact, then again with some long-winded unnecessary statement complete with alibi, his other long winded nonsense on his own wall and insistence that he needs to leave the island straightaway, his stolen money, his bizarre Sunday night. Suddenly he comes to the rescue, points out the two murderers, cracks the case and is hailed a hero - eventful week for SM. There's more to him and I don't trust him at all. I'm not buying. JMO.

Thanks, I figured this is what he was saying.

His friend was making out like Sean had something to do with the murder, which is what the rumour clearly was.

Such a crying shame, they look happy.

Nothing in that final pic makes them stand out as victims, in a few short hours, of a horrific sex slaying. They both look clean , fresh and quite sweet, just young, successful people on holiday in an exotic locale.
Pretty girls and good-looking guys, seem to be the standard there, so cannot see why the imo, unassuming and respectably dressed Hannah, would be singled out for such a particularly nasty, ugly, violent rape and murder??
Did someone falsely blame H for something?
Mistaken identity?
Did they witness something?

With all respect dotr,Are you equating looks and dress with people being victims?

I'd say it's almost a given that someone was "after her" and she told them where to go, maybe nicely, maybe not nicely. David may have been involved as it looks like they had something going on between them also, him going to meet her in the club and all, without his mates too.

Absolutely not! (" preaching to the converted", lol)
The inhabitants of the area, are accustomed to a variety of tourists , the leader had suggested foreigners should tone it down if they did not want that kind of attention.
Nothing untoward or unusual about the victims appearance imo. that might inflame cultural/moral/religious differences that some fanatic, would use to justify the murders.

In some countries, how you dress can definitely contribute to attention being created, a person being singled out, followed etc. Doesn't mean the victim is at fault, EVER. But the fact is that sexuality is extremely repressed in some countries (you only understand this really when you live there for some time) and a woman displaying skin in a way we in the West find absolutely acceptable and normal and unarousing (arms, shoulders, neck, legs, etc), WILL get unwanted attention. Add alcohol and dark hours to the mix (on the side of the perps) and it can get sticky real fast. Again, NOT the fault of the victim, any victim. jmo
