I think they have given us a real look as things were happening and before they were edited a lot. I was trying to form my opinion on the politics of this and have just about given up on that part for now. It will be spin spin spin by everybody trying to sway our thinking. But I will never forget, never, the horror. There is one picture in my mind of a young mother hodling her baby with the most hopless look on her face. And I was at home watching on TV 24 hours/day for awhile - they lived it and how will they ever get past some of that. There but for the Grace of GOD...

I think that this fiasco cut across all political boundaries.

Does an edict for people to bring supplies for X days exempt the government from providing any supplies until those days are over?

It does in my opinion. They were told there would be no provisions. Pretty simple and straightforward to me.

What personal responsibility do the rape victims bear? Should they have hit the nearest BDSM shop and stocked up on chastity belts? When we knew rapes were happening and help still didn't come for days, who is responsible?

How about those who were killed? If they were killed for the food they brought, maybe that's their fault, too?

Yes. Certain emergency band radios. Particularly in Louisiana because of all the marine activity.( Not military but lots of ocean going and offshore rig activity)

I cannot even begin to imagine, the effect this disaster will have on these peoples lives will be generational. I hope and pray that all the so called monday morning quarterbacks, and powers that be, remember this.That while they are busy pointing fingers, blaming and trying to save their own butts, they remember it is not all about them.

This is one of my considerable concerns. I have survived many storms but was always shaken up after. I mobilized at the time and fell apart after. But I never had to deal with death and total destruction and homelessness, more major inconveniance and financial implications.

The look in the eyes of so many victims is frightening....it is lost, at best and destitution of the soul,at worst. I want to hug them and take them to fantasy island and make it all go away but it won't. So, we can pray and be there and accept all contributions from every country that has offered. Bringing a home to someone will go a long way in having a stabilizing effect even if it isn't in New orleans.

Absolutely not. I am saying it is very possible that an emergency management official would be connected to his mom in a nursing home. And have set this up as soon as she was admitted. Just being an emergency management official and taking precautionary measures that he was allowed to do. Not knocking him at all but a lot of "special" relations go on in administration at all levels.

Ok, thanks. I think a lot of the problem was the nursing homes weren't in communication, and I didn't want anyone reading that all had those radios. Yes, we do not know whether he had any special priveleges, that is true.

"Repair crews have patched the ruptured levee along the 17th Street Canal and have begun pumping water from New Orleans, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Monday."

I'm hoping this means that they can at least start drying out the city? Will that help cut down on the disease possibility?

Draining will mean they will be able to locate possibable bodies and remove them. Then, IF they can keep the people out of there they can begin spraying, but that's a BIG IF!

I'll know more tomorrow when my daughter returns. She said they were only going into Baton Rouge but you know when your kids are lying. She didn't want me to know that the Uhaul was part of the rescue from Jefferson Parish, as there are no Uhauls in Baton Rouge. I'll forgive her if she comes home safe. But she is an adult and her decisions are hers to make.But I am not happy until I hear her voice. This is just so hard all the way around. I alternate between hope and despair and somewhere in between.

Coming in from other states and rented from other states, I assume.Most vehicles in NO were under water.

Oh yeah, they would have had to be from out of town. I think a lot of family members just came in and got them and whatever they were able to salvage.

What's so sad is how many have no family or friends that can help them.
