if you do some research on the Rastas, you will not see this as a suicide, but as following a religious beleif. BOB MARLEY DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE.

I understand your opinion, but you must remember that some faiths depend completely on Holistic methods as well as good food, and an absence of RADIATION and CHEMOTHERAPY (in this particular case). Rastas are very much naturalists, everything is real. Many many (most) do not eat meat, and rely solely on raw foods. The only drugs they use are absolutely natural- they don't even drink alchohol because it isn't natural. For a man to complety spur a movement, and have that much influence, to suddenly denounce all of his core beleifs because he had cancer, imho, would be suicide. Marley is remembered by the masses for his strong beliefs. He never swayed in those beleifs. I don't think he committed suicide by not allowing modern medicine ATTEMPT to extend his life in unnatural ways. It would have been completely counter to all that he stood for and spoke of his entire life... He is a religious and prophetic symbol for his people, and will remain a legend for generations upon generations to come, because of this very reason. Dying naturally is NOT suicide. Jah was calling him, and he went...

One of my very best friends is a Jehovah's witness and carries a card that she is not to be given blood under any circumstances. Needless to say, this worries me quite a bit when I think about it, so I just try to reassure myself that yes, it's her decision, not mine, and she literally believes that her soul will be destroyed if she receives a blood transfusion. I just try not to think about it too much.

Some of these religious decisions don't work for me, but I guess it goes back to the whole thing about control over one's own body.

I think (in my case anyway) when the cure made me sicker than the disease and the disease was so advanced that there was little hope, I'd probably want quality time rather than quantity.

I know. I wish someone would have FORCED him to undergo treatment just so we could continue listening to his music and his beautiful voice, and his evolved philosophy... I do think, however, that it might not have made him the symbol of strength and beleif in (his own) philosophy he is today...

I know- I wouldn't ever want to go through what my grandmother did either- she chose to go through radiation, and it was just horrible to watch. I don't know what I would do in that situation, but I don't think I would choose radiation at her age. She chose radiation, but not a feeding tube, and ulitimately, starvation is what killed her... I had to stand behind her and her beleif, but beleive me, I tried all I could to get her to agree to a feeding tube... It is a tough decision for anyone to have to make, and I must reserve thoughts about anyone's individual thoughts on Western Medicine, because I have just not been there...

Bhodi, the other day my son asked me what reggae music sounded like. Bob Marley is the only thing that popped into my head. I had to find a link on the internet to let him listen. He and my daughter loved it.

startin' em young. Reggae is such awesome music, especially for kids, because it is sooo mellow, a far cry from some of the stuff kids listen to these days. And it is "cool". Everyone can appreciate reggae. And it will always be "in". There is a place in Vail I absolutely love to go see reggae at. The floor bounces. The entire place is on one vibration, one rhythm. It is quite an experience. There is a little hole in the wall in Victor, Idaho called the Knotty Pine that is a reggae heaven- it is an unlikely place for reggae, but I saw three different bands stemmed from the original Wailers (Bunny Wailer was one) alone, ZIGGY Marley (he is the BEST), the Skatelites (Ska), Toots and the Maytals, and Black Uhru. I am CONVINCED these world reknown bands come to the Knotty Pine for the good herbs and mellow nature of the naturalist locals...

I personally prefer reggae bands from Jamaica. A lot of the reggae bands from America don't really sound authentic, or good at all, there are a select few, but I prefer black dreads from Jamaica any day of the year...
I have met most of the members from the bands that I saw at the Knotty, and I tell yah what, the SMILES, and the VIBRATIONS these people give, are just soul soothing...

I can't knock the reggae bands at all- at least they aren't going for some of the drugs many bands do today... and they are preachin' tha ONE LOVE.
I have several friends that have been to Jamaica, and they are about as straight as you can get, but in Jamaica, they "expanded their minds"... LOL

Yah, that is reason for a fight! I have loved Ziggy ever since the first time I laid eyes on him and the Melody Makers. I got in to reggae at a very young age, thanks to my crazy uncle that has his doctorate in Art History from Berkely. He is also the one I thank for my hippie roots... My dad and him couldn't be more different (except when it comes to politics) but I thank my lucky stars every day for all of the music he gave me growing up. The first album he gave me was a Bob Marley album, and then he gave me an album by "They Might Be Giants", which in my opinion, is one of the most intelligent bands out there...
