Today I would like to remember Princess Alice of Battenberg, mother of Prince Philip, and the struggles and stigma she overcame in her lifetime.

According to The Psychologist, the British Psychological Society's publication, Princess Alice was sectioned by her own family after being diagnosed with schizophrenia.

In 1930, she was taken forcibly to a Swiss sanatorium, where she was treated by Sigmund Freud.
Freud "believed Princess Alice's religious delusions were the product of sexual frustration and recommended X-raying her ovaries in order to kill off her libido," The Psychologist reports.

The princess pleaded her sanity but remained in the sanatorium for more than two years.

Prince William recalled how his great-grandmother saved a Jewish family from the Nazis by hiding them in her home, as he and his wife marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in London today.

The Duke of Cambridge read out a letter sent by a friend of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice, who was famed for offering the Jewish family refuge at her Athens home after Hitler's Army arrived in Greece, at the Holocaust Memorial Day event.

Did Meghan go visit or meet with both of her parents after she meet Harry? I think Harry called her father but has never met him. Would it have helped if they had actually met him face to face somewhere and ironed things out, explained the upcoming media circus and given a monetary gift to perhaps keep things on the quieter side?

You should apply for the role of Meghans new agent! If she didn’t get that advice (which is doubtful), she should have done. I know that Harry spoke on the phone, hoping he stuck to tradition and asked TM for his daughters hand in marriage, but that was possibly all that happened (box ticking exercise). Talking of traditions, I wonder if Harry had to write to his superior in the military explaining why he wanted to marry MM and asking permission as my husband had to.
