The next state visit will be from the Emperor and Empress of Japan, sometime in Spring. As there won't be public protests about this visit it shouldn't cost too much.

I can't see that happening during a Trump administration!
IMO they should do what other celebs do - get a house in a gated community, buy a good security system and employ a bodyguard when they go out in public.... Then pay for it themselves.

Meghan Markle and Harry cut off as Canada refuses to continue funding couple

MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry's security will not be paid for by Canada after March, Public Safety Canada has said.

I think £20m is outrageous but most of that is because they are living in a different country which requires UK personnel to do 2 weeks on 2 weeks off between Canada and the UK.

I think it could be argued that there is a duty of care towards Harry because he was born royal but at the same time his life should not be more valuable than any other citizen's.

I can't see this being funded long term, if costs stay as they are then in just 10 years to blow £200m on a private citizen's security would be outrageous.

500k a year for Beatrice and Eugenie combined was seen as extravagance and refused.

If they are going to continue funding then I think a compromise has to be reached where they live in the UK (or the UK agrees to pay Canadian officers) and all expenses including wages, overtime, extra personnel etc associated with any foreign travel are paid by H&M

The Canadian government needs to send Britain a bill for the cost of Harry and Meghan's security from November to March. It turns out they were never "working royals" while they were here using our country as a base for planning their exit.
I'm glad our government will cease providing regular security coverage for them.

But Harry's visit to Edinburgh was not Royal business

It was a commercial presentation to promote a company that he is likely paid by. It was HIS business, not The Crown's

He, or the company he is promoting, should be paying the expenses.
