For one thing, the total media blackout is starting to feel childish and the abject refusal to proffer any information is reading like surly immature resentment towards the press.

The same piece quotes a senior British journalist, saying: “This is the shattering of a tradition that goes back for decades. There is a price to be paid for that, and that price is mockery.”

Queen Elizabeth isn't exactly known for making house calls, prompting many to wonder if Baby Sussex has secretly arrived in the aforementioned home birth with the proud great-grandmother visiting to meet the newborn (this theory is still unconfirmed).
Why the British public are losing interest in the royal baby

An announcement from Buckingham Palace that Prince Harry is heading overseas next week has got many thinking Meghan has already given birth.
Harry's tour announcement fuels speculation Baby Sussex has already been born

THIS

I can’t like this enough.

There was the calulated coy in the way it was revealed at Eugenie’s wedding, stealing the spotlight from her at her wedding, and now all this melodrama in radio silence and breaking tradition, and super duper top secret

Ooh, this is harsh. But if they ditch the titles and the money, I doubt anyone would give them the time of day.

From your link:

The public is understanding — to a point. They don’t want to be treated as if their interest in the Windsor clan is somehow wrong or that their passion for the royal family is viewed by some members as a pernicious force to be held at bay.

Being a member of the royal family might come with duty but it also offers a global platform to spruik the charities you are keen on, means you can live in a legit castle and have access to the annual $150 million Sovereign Grant. If Harry and Meghan decide the cost of being royal is too high, then the solution is easy — leave.

Ditch the HRH, hand back the diamonds and decamp to, say, Malibu. They could spend their days Instagramming with a vengeance, giving TED Talks and sunning themselves on Beyonce’s yacht in St Barts.

THAT is a bit OTT, isn't it?? Media having a meltdown?

The Palace has already stated that the public will be notified when she goes into labour. So, what more do we need on a minute by minute basis??

One can assume the baby has been born within 12 hours of that announcement.

Isn't the palace also putting a 'bulletin' out on the grounds, as usual??

Poor babies at the media, not getting their way. Tough times for media outlets, most people no longer subscribe, advertising is down but not a reason to be so petulant. IMO

^^^ adding but cannot edit?

The pictures are all that may be delayed a bit and I think they are entitled to not parade the baby on the steps of a hospital. This child will likely never be the monarch, different circumstances from the Cambridges.

No one 'owns' this baby, photos and information are the prerogative of the parents and the Queen.

I still say Monday. Maybe even Tuesday, as I got fit in for an appointment that will necessitate me being out of touch for a few hours on Tuesday. lol I won't have a clue for about 5 hours, how will I cope??

These decades of tradition, they seem really only to have been for Diana/Charles and Kate/William. Have any other royal couples been expected to stand on hospital steps within hours of the birth?

So many media outlets are managing to fill the void until the official announcement that I'm not convinced that this is a valid complaint.

Is that the article that starts off saying how it's been a whole 48 days since the duchess was seen in public? Like how dare she take so long to give birth! Do they want her waddling around doing public engagements, and then paparazzi photos of her waters breaking?

I understand why those at the top of the line may feel the expectation to do the leaving hospital thing, it's good PR, however no one should feel they have to. I've never met a new mum who would have been ready or capable of that so soon after the birth. Better to remove the expectation and then perhaps do something IF you feel up to it.

I went Googling. There are pics of Princess Anne leaving the Lindo Wing with each of her babies. So she seems to have started the trend for the Lindo as well.

The other thing is, the Queen did have a blackout time for announcements with the Cambridge children, as she no doubt has with this baby. One does not wake the Queen after 10pm and before 8am (IIRC) if all is well.

Good news can wait until the Monarch is awake.

So, the media has an automatic delay built into the announcement but they didnt complain about THAT!!

Ahh, but when Anne showed off her babies, Charles had no heirs. Peter was the first grandchild for the Queen.

Meghan and Harry don't have real jobs and Meghan has pretty much been off for over a month. Sorry, but IMO they are privileged wimps.

  • #573
Why would a private ambulance have a police escort if it wasn't for Meghan?

And why would a journalist not take a snap with his cell phone to document if this indeed it happen?

I found that article whiny and demanding.

I felt that part of it was due to the republican/monarchist debate in Australia. But it's an ongoing thing where the media wants access, there are specialist royal photographers who need to have the opportunity to take photos, and these aren't paparazzi photographers, they're people who often develop friendly working relationships with the royals as they all know they each have a job to do and a role to play.

I just think it's a bit premature to be complaining about being left out when there might well be a photocall in the grounds of Windsor a day or two after the birth. And complaining about Meghan being off for 48 days...maybe it wasn't supposed to be that long and she's actually ten days overdue? Harry has turned up for two engagements where he wasn't expected to turn up, he's still hoping to go to the Netherlands next week.

I don't really understand what it is they want the palace to be telling them if there is no news of labour or birth yet?

Ummm, Harry was born into it. He had no choice.

Much more to say, but don't want to put effort into it at this time.

If you were going to have a baby, and you wanted to spend time with the family after the baby arrived, would you want media on your doorstep? Seriously, I don't think any of us would. But then again that's just me and I should not be speaking for others.

I'm not sure if it was a journalist, he was described only as a BBC presenter? And it would be a bit tabloid-y to be taking a photograph of a random ambulance just in case it's on its way to Meghan and Harry's pad?

It seems to me that the more the media attacks them, the more that I am on their side for just wanting to have their privacy.

It's been long ago and I can't remember, who released the information that she was saying she was pregnant at the wedding. I don't think that was an official announcement? Perhaps it was?

I would assume if I was pregnant I would tell my family. And if they leaked it out that is on them. But I don't think there was an official announcement.

Could Harry be dancing to Megan’s tune?

Ha!

I guess I am just like the queen! My phone will not do any alerts between those exact times.
