Also it's a known fact that Prince George has a nickname of Archie. It could very well be that since Harry is so close to George, he nicknamed him Archie. It could be that he never thought he'd have a son of his own . Thus he gave George the nickname.
Now that he does have a son of his own he wants him to have that name. What a special connection between his son and George then.

Eh, I don’t think anyone is being too harsh. We are all just expressing our opinion. Clothes, tiaras, baby bumps, baby names. Guess I just don’t see the harm in someone saying they don’t like it. We can all be happy he is here and healthy.

Diana was a descendant of the 9th Earl of Argyll, Archibald Campbell. It could well be a tribute to Harrys' mother. Or they just like the name.

Not one I would have chosen either. But, I am not "royal" so I didn't have a bunch of rules to follow. All of my kids have Irish names. Including our cat, "Claddagh".

I agree! I don't like the name at all* and assumed it was another bit of fake news at first, but it doesn't change how I feel about the new ickle baby. I look forward to watching Archie grow up, I love bouncing baby boys, he's gonna be one helluva cute toddler before we know it!!

* PS: actually, when I think about it, I think it's the lack of royal-ness that's thrown me, rather than the names themselves. I know half a dozen kids called Archie or Harrison and, while they'd never make my top 20 (50?), I didn't really have an opinion on them before today.

PPS: I also know a lot of young children called George, Charlotte and Louis... and William, some Charlies, a couple of Katies and various versions of Elizabeth. Basically I've just realised royal names are actually dead common!

PPS I think Alexander Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor would have been nicer, known as Xander to modern it up a bit.

Well, one things for sure, he’s not likely to ever be accused of being “starchy Archie” because his Dad is the family rebel. I hope I live long enough to see some of his hilarious teenage / bachelor antics like his Dad did. LOL!

In his photo, I see Dads eyes, Moms nose & mouth. He’s going to be one little heartbreaker for sure.

Archie is not a royal name. There has never been an "Archie." There were a few Archibalds. But the kid won't have a royal title so I guess they didn't feel he needs a royal name.

I was going to suggest Harrison for a middle name! I didn't think Harry would want Henry, but Harrison encapsulates that he's the son of Harry! If I'd said it here instead of just thinking it, then they wouldn't have chosen it lol

I wonder if anyone in the country will be heading to the bookies to collect on the name Archie?!

I've never cared for using nicknames as a given name. Where I grew up, it was a kind of "hillbilly" thing, usually by people who didn't read or write. Like naming your child "Jim Bob" instead of James Robert. It doesn't give the child many options for his name once he gets older.

"Master Archie"? That's really odd, JMO. Even more so for a member of the royal family. Wow. Ok.

Also, not to throw shade on hillbillies. Doing genealogy over the years, some used and passed on some beautiful names often European.

Carrick, Eleanor, Rushton, Narcissa, Sherrod, etc.

Master is just a form of Mister that is used for minors. So when he's older he'd be Mr Archie Mountbatten-Windsor (is the surname hyphenated?)

Peter Philips, the son of Princess Anne, was Master Peter Philips when he was born. Technically any minor male can be addressed that way..my mum used to use it when addressing envelopes for young boys in our family.

This has to be evident to everyone in their family- like Uncle Harry and Great Grandmama Queen Elizabeth

Yet Harry & Megan now name their own child “Archie”

I’m beginning to get a picture of Harry that makes him likeable, but not capable of serious thought or respect to his own family.

Do we know for a fact that George is nicknamed Archie in his family or was it an assumption due to the story of him telling someone that's his name?

George could have had other reasons for that response?

I like the name Archie, especially the meaning: "genuine", "bold" or "brave".

It's good that they didn't choose the name of one grandfather and not the name of another. But then they are definitely not the type to do that, in my opinion.
They are such a caring and compassionate couple.

In the pictures you can really see how much darker Meghan's skin is compared to Prince Harry's skin. Of course, Prince Harry is very very pale. I have a light complexion but I think I would look tanned next to Prince Harry.

I know that Meghan likes the color white, but I wish she had worn a pretty blue dress. I keep trying to dress Meghan in blue.

I have to admit, my first reaction to the name ‘Archie’ was “Oh no!”, but a split second later I thought “Archie! How unusual/different/unexpected!, Yeah, I like it!”

I know one person named Archie & he is a business powerhouse, so that is all I can attest to lol!

I am glad the new parents look so overjoyed and totally smitten with each other & their adorable son Archie. Talk about the look of love!

We have all been so invested in William & Harry’s lives for so long. I will never forget, neither will all my WS friends who witnessed it, when Diana’s young sons walked behind her casket. I didn’t expect to ever see those young boys smile again. But they did & they have lived thru such a sad time....it’s so good & reassuring to see these happy royal occasions. It’s wonderful to see M & H’s delirious smiles & utter joy.

I am disappointed a name remembering Dinah was not used.

Harry and Megan have done many things in their relationship to include the memory of Dinah. Why stop now?
