An article of 12 April reported on claims carried by the Sun newspaper that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had ‘banned’ employees from using a car park adjacent to Frogmore Cottage. Since publication, we have been informed that the Duke and Duchess played no part in the decision to partially close the car park.

Apologies for quoting my own post. The Daily Mail comment section has not been friendly towards this news some are even demanding abolishment of the monarchy when Her Majesty passes. I think the Duke and Duchess may want to tone down their lavish lifestyle a little. I am sure Her Majesty is wary of public feeling on extravagance displayed by members of the royal family.

Actually, the suit was a little off - too "peachy" - for the lovely flowers in various shades of pink, purple, white. Noticed he's barefoot: Whatever, dude.

^^^except that EVERYTHING in and about their lives is lavish. Nothing to 'tone down', its luxury, luxury and more luxury.

I have been to the 'public' rooms in the palaces and 'we', the public, really have no idea of how they live. They show us a wee glimpse, tell us it's 'hard work' and we wouldnt want it. Boy, they've spun THAT tale for far too long, methinks.

We are in 2019 and things must change when there are hardworking people who cannot afford heat or their mortgages or proper food, yet have to support this family in the lap of luxury. IMO

ETA: there is that 'theory' that they do not cost the taxpayer a dime and are, in fact, responsible for tourism. I think that's a bunch of dog logs.
Look at what the crown owns, their private fortunes and their upkeep costs.
Of course the British public pays for it all and no, people do not go to London to see the Queen. Tourists do not see anything other than a few pubic rooms of palaces, historical places (for which we need NO RF) and a few castles throughout the land.

The public is no longer hoodwinked with a wave and a nod of the head, a la Queen Mother.

Anyway, didnt mean to hijack the thread.

Although I did not think I would see the queen when I went to England, the whole royalty castle thing is why I chose to spend two weeks there instead of another country.

Buckingham Palace ( only saw from the outside) was really so plain and boring. Not what I expected.

I saw the giant jewel in the Tower. It was so big that it looked fake. I thought that I would never buy it at a tag sale even for $5.00

When we were on our way to the Tower walking on the subway, we spoke with a man who was selling trinkets. We asked what he thought of the Tower.

He had never been. We expressed surprise and said how much history there was.

He said,” History history history. That’s all there is.”

America is a baby country and not filled with the history and beautiful buildings. I hate hate hate cities but London was truly magical.

Yes, London is magical. The whole country is one big historical site. But the RF, as they now exist, are not needed for tourism. The history is why people come, to see the palaces etc but that is separate from the RF.

It’s true we are a baby country, but I have to disagree about beautiful buildings.

The architecture of our oldest cities, we settled in America in the image of the only way we knew how, and it is magnificent.

Up and down the east coast of the USA you’ll find our connection to the Uk and a splash of Italy through architecture.

What I found in my travels abroad was the history through the ancient, hand made dwellings, out in the countryside.

You see that here in the Native American dwellings, too.

Human, it’s so interesting... of all the places, I know why London is magical... tree lined streets, Big Ben, a river running through it, pubs, men in kilts, (you never know) and the royals!

Plus, a really fun crowd.

They do have private estates to live on. Acres and acres of land, properties galore. No problem with housing for the RF.
