She was from France, I believe, doubtful they really had a good idea of people from different continents until the advent of the explorers. When did they get started?? I can't remember....lol
Africans show up in large enough numbers in Europe to be recorded by contemporary writers from around the early 1200s. The crusades brought more contact still as there were a whole other set of trading and other relationships between Africa and the Middle East. It wouldn't be in any way unrealistic to say that a French princess from the 1300s could have been part African, although of course I've no idea whether its true.

True enough, although I don't know if the OP expected us to go back to the Queens of the 14th century!

If Phillippa of Hainault was mixed race though she would set a good precedent for Meghan. She was the one who spared the lives of the Burghers of Calais, and she was an all round good Queen.
Queen Charlotte also

Yes, many of the princesses from Portugal, Italy and other Europeans did have African bloodlines but the average person or Northern Europeans may well not have known.

We went to see a display of Dianas' clothing and they had her lineage going wayyyy back and it was very interesting and included, indirectly, ancestors from northern Africa.

I recall hubby saying she was related to Cleopatra but wasn't sure if he was pulling my leg. ;)

I wouldn't be all that surprised if she was, looking at the staggering numbers of current European royalty who are direct descendents of Queen Victoria

As for bringing the baby out to 'meet and greet', I hope she does it before the 'baby blues' hit her!

I bet he's beautiful. A bit small but beautiful.

That’s an average size baby boy AFAIK

Not only this^

But factually incorrect from the first paragraph. (I know-Big Shock;)Not)

Would've been a good idea to possibly attempt a little actual research of British history or at the very least maybe, I dunno, some fact checking

Was this Britain’s first black queen?

I quit watching CNN when DT won the election. I hate the political BS.

There will be new news tomorrow once we see the baby and get the name :D

I can’t wait to see him and hear his name!

The average northern European at the time would have taken it as a given that the King would marry a foreign princess. So, and I hope this doesn't sound racist or ...er .... colourist, but if a mediaeval English king came home with a wife who looked like Meghan Markle nobody would think it in any way comment worthy.

In an era when royal marriages were all about alliances between different European dynasties having a foreign looking Queen was the norm.

I definitely can picture Harry wandering into the nursery and just sitting there watching his son sleep. Watching that little chest go up and down. Memorizing every detail of his face. Holding his tiny hand with a finger and caressing.
Time just stands still at those moments, don’t they?

I’m so excited for tomorrow

But that's not really relevant to the baby or the British Royal family thou.

For what is worth nobody here in the UK is even discussing (or bothered about) Megan or the babys race, colour or whatever else agenda these kinds of articles have. I don't even think our media is overall? If so I haven't noticed.

* Disclaimer ;)
This is only my personal opinion (based on living in the UK and having a lifetime of day to day interactions with others also living in the UK)
& not necessarily representative as the opinions of the entire population of the UK :D

Thanks.

If you read the history of Queen Charlotte, there was a lot of discussion about her looks and artists actually are believed to 'whiten' her features in portraits on the instruction of the court. This is a fact, not racist.

I agree about marrying foreign princesses but they usually chose from other European courts so may be totally unaware of their African lines.

Queen Charlotte was related to the Portuguese Royals.

What I find interesting, is that its MY belief that IF the RF did not want us to know of their Nazi sympathizers within the family, how much did they NOT want us to know that they are of mixed racial blood??

I had read many years ago, that Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons thought infant Elizabeth was too dark, she sprinkled talc on her before photographs and kept her out of the sun as a baby. I can no longer find the source but it was very interesting!

Queen Charlotte was from a completely different era to Phillippa of Hainault though. I can easily believe that the England of the 18th century, with the slave trade at its height and many powerful people earning a fortune from it, would cover up any African ethnicity in their Queen. The England of the 14th century not so much.

A French princess who looked like Meghan Markle or even several shades darker wouldn't have raised any eyebrows. Queens were expected to look foreign.

No I agree I don't think anyone is bothered about any of that at all and certainly the media don't seem to mention it.

I'm also from the UK and honestly just think it's lovely to see Harry happy finally.
