This discussion is very popular, and I find myself checking the thread daily for your comments and updates on Royal goings on. What is it that fascinates us about the British Royal Family?

My dad was Canadian, so I grew up with aunts, uncles, cousins who were enamored by the Royals, gushing about them as if they were direct descendants. My fascination with the Royal Family stems from my interest in British history, literature, culture, the pomp & circumstance of Royal affairs. There is something magical about British customs and traditions that draws me into the real life fairy tale.

What fascinates you about the British Royals?

Al that you mention, Bette.
I have lineage that goes back to the American Revolution. And there's just a love affair, there, in being the rebels? The Magna Carta, our constitution...

Shakespeare!

Who doesn't love the Beatles or the Stones?

There's no other country that does a wedding or funeral like England. The pomp and circumstance is unmatched. As are the crowds in the streets. People know how to have a good time, in merry old England. And they know how to collectively grieve, too.

I know the monarchy is critiqued all the time, but I love the constancy of it. It's everyone's fairy tale.

Rachel is Meghan's given name and her Suits character's moniker. Rachel isn't necessarily an American name but isn't typically British, either. I think Rachel would be an awesome name for a Sussex daughter.

And is it certain traditional as it's a Biblical name!

I do think Harry has had some leeway as an adult after he reformed his party boy ways. I think his life could have gone in an entirely different direction and I could have seen him living a life in the style of Edward VIII. Thankfully he realized the gravity of his position and even more importantly, saw all the good he could do in the world with his charity works if he took it seriously. I'm sure it has been a great relief to the Queen to not have to worry about him!

Not sure what to think of your post sorrell, but Meghan has absolutely no effect on my life. She is not threatening to me at all and why would I be threatened by her?? Maybe she is powerful and if she is more power to her. I just don't like her wardrobe choices, hair style choices and make-up choices. She would probably hate my choices. I am not in public view so nobody cares what I look like. I just think she can do better on her appearance just like I can do better on my appearance. I work and pay for my appearance and don't have endless funds at my disposal.

To each their own.

Trying to delete this :( Not sure why it won't let me. Wrong post :(

DH and I have had a running joke since we first dated. He was an Economics/History major and knows the date, time, place, etc. of every major event in history. The only date that I know off the top of my head is 6-15-1215: the signing of the Magna Carta :D

Can't get enough of the Bard. We used to host Shakespeare readings in our home.

The continuity and traditions of the British are unsurpassed. Passing the torch from one generation to the next in seamless fashion. It's awesome and inspiring!

I absolutely adored Laura Ashley and shopped there frequently for DD and myself when there was a local LA shop. At one time, there were four Laura Ashley stores in Michigan, but they haven't been in these parts for years.

And Paul Burrell’s opinion on names.

Dear Meghan and Harry, Many Congratulations to you both on your wonderful news. Australia has taken you to their hearts and have seen at first hand the inspirational people you are. If your baby is a girl, be brave and call her Diana which would make your Mother so proud.

Hmmmm what do I say about Mr Paul...lol.....

I didn't like how he cashed in on Diana years after her death. I realize he was in financial dire straits but he should have held more dignity and kept his mouth shut!

In my opinion Victoria Beckham is NOT a great British designer her firm is failing and if it wasn’t for David’s company bailing hers out it would have gone bust long, long ago.

Paul Burrell is an absolute disgrace and has made a career out of embarrassing Princess Diana and Her Majesty the Queen. A true friend and confidant of both would not have behaved the way he has.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could give their daughter the middle name Diana but the poor child should not be called Diana as it would be a terrible burden constantly living in the shadow of their much loved tragic Grandmother.

I love this dress on Meghan! She looks great with a couple of extra pounds.

And, she and Harry really look so happy. It's so sweet.

Harry and Meghan in Melbourne for third day of royal tour of Australia | Daily Mail Online

Not impressed with Megs . I think I am going to skip the remaining of this tour.

she 'isn't polished' but I find it rather refreshing.
megan is showing us she is here for all the right reasons :-)

the 'polished' perfect diva appearance no doubt she will master.
but for now she is embracing the true purpose of her role.
doing her own hair and make up is telling us heaps about her and I am falling in love with her for it!
no wonder harry did .
she could rock up in a hesson bag and bed hair and still be stunning to me.:)

Do you know if Harry has eaten any Kangaroo meat yet?
There is a problem over in Nebraska. A school chef got fired for using kangaroo meat in the chili.

"He told the school district’s superintendent that he had done so “because of its nutritional value and because it is a very lean meat,” the superintendent, Mike Williams, wrote in a letter to parents."

"A Nebraska superintendent is apologizing for "anxiety and any harm" caused after a school chef served — without disclosing — kangaroo meat to students. ...The superintendent added Potter-Dix Public Schools "will no way be serving food of this nature again. Period."
Kangaroo meat served to Nebraska school students, superintendent says
