MM, imo, just wants the fame. I respected her more when she was a spokesperson for World Vision . WV is more prestige than an iPhone case that says Sussex royal with gold print. I agree with her dad that it's looking like Walmart branding... JMO

It's a little different when people in the royal family use the news media for publicity for personal profit & wealth. Any corporation or individual involved in promoting themselves in order to sell something knows they have to manage their image. It's a two way street with the news media - you can't expect them to act as your personal advertising tool. Traditionally they're there to report on news. They all offer paid and "earned" media (free news media coverage for people or groups who benefit from promoting a news story), but they still report the news. Otherwise, they're little more than an advertising catalogue, right?

Every famous person who uses PR experts knows you have to manage your image. If H & M don't like the way they're being portrayed in the news media, I guess they need to manage their image better. MM should know this, she's been raised in that environment of fame, publicity, etc. since she was a small child. LOL, kids there probably learn how to write a press release by the time they graduate middle school. Her father worked in the business, she grew up around the entertainment industry on a daily basis.

With some celebrities I'd probably agree. Then I see incidents where I think it's not just the celebrity who's responsible for the way they're portrayed. They get on the wrong side of someone and it can blow up in their face with negative publicity. I don't think all actors/actresses crave the privacy invasions...they need publicity for their movies, but they get that by appearing on the red carpet at the premiere, they get it from which parts they choose, and that helps to build their career.

But how can PR people affect things like the Buzzfeed comparison where one woman holds a baby bump and it's written up as such a tender thing to do, and then another woman does the same thing and it's written up questioning if she's psychopathic. I don't know why the differences in the Buzzfeed article came about...maybe just that the media is playing into a public desire for the good/bad, love/hate thing in the public psyche. But somehow it has visibly led them to present the same things in a different way depending on who's doing it. How do individuals really control how something is written up if the editor of the paper has already made up their mind to present it in a certain way? Are they supposed to use backhanders? Yes, some PR groups do use the equivalent of backhanders.... "we'll give you access to this, if you'll write something else up with a positive spin on it..." I think sometimes it's the luck of the draw. And sometimes I think the media seems to have an agenda...and at a time like now, when the Mail is prepping for a court case against someone, obviously its in their interests to make themselves look good, and the other person in the court case look bad. And a lot of the editors of various tabloids might be saying to each other, "we don't want royals bringing court cases against us, it might make us look very bad...we all need to work together to spin this as it's in our joint interests to do so".

But is the Iphone comparison real or something you read somewhere.....is there evidence for it? Yet it's already being used as an example of the 'trashy, money- and fame-grabbing Meghan...'

I see this move as deeply existential for Harry. I agree with the poster here, back up thread, who pointed out that in becoming married to someone “he loves” and becoming a Dad it has brought up old wounds of losing his Mom, the way he lost his Mom, and how that’s shaped his views more than anything.

As for Meghan I can’t imagine some of the pressure she felt while in the whirlwind of the royal family, newly married, and pregnant. All this while being trashed on SM, the press, and the public’s opinions expressed, her estranged family, etc.

I am not a fan of their superficial SM platform, but that does not necessarily reflect entirely on them personally. Same with the angle in the Africa film. Their efforts to personalize themselves has really backfired and I look to the film’s producers and timing on that one, too.

I think there’s more depth to the both of them. I also imagine if they want more children, maybe Meghan because she’s pushing 40, doesn’t feel she can handle it, being pregnant, globe trotting for the BRF charities.

As for Harry, he is now in uncharted territory but if he doesn’t take the chance he will never know that part of himself that he feels was suppressed.

Sometimes when that happens, the answers are as big a surprise as the question. But he, I believe, needs to feel himself as a free bird. —Who may miss his home, all that he knew much more than he thought. We shall see.

Her Majesty QE is a very wise woman. She drew enough clear boundaries and yet left the door open for her grandson.

Dang, soooo many different ways of supplying snark in a quantum universe. All possibilities are likely, but using snark as a default option is somewhat illogical. We really have no concrete proof of anything since we are not, nor should we be, privy to what goes on in the BRF, much less the Sussex family. So why use negativity, or sarcasm masquerading as cynicism as a default mode? Yes, we have opinions, all of us do. But should they be so cruel?

JMO, MOO, theoretical spaghetti, suggestion, supposition, sneezing, educated guess.
Wish I could "like" this post a million times.

I thought that was Lilibet making a quantum string theory post. I believe it has basis only in observable reality.

I think Harry has wanted to give up a lot of the Royal side (the job, not the family) since at least when he joined the army and did the tour of Afghanistan. I think since he got out of the army he's struggled a lot and the one bright thing for him has been marrying and becoming a dad.
ITA! I think he was GOOD at being in the army—he found his thing. And when the press outed him in Afghanistan, and he was forced to go home he became lost.

I think the “no option” he was talking about is that his much wanted independence just doesn’t work within the RF. He tried to not completely leave his Royal duties while becoming financially independent, but realized it really is one or the other. He chose what’s best for his family and himself.

Absolutely agree.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex is scheduled for a Royal tour to Sierra Leone.

She is a very normal addition to the Royal Family. Both she and husband Prince Edward initially tried to be employed in their early years after marriage. She was returning to her PR company, I believe. But it didn't work out for either of them. Certainly Megan and Harry could have reviewed how this all happened and planned a more respectable and collegial plan to step down.

Anyone else remember that HM The Queen had recommended Megan spend time in Windsor with Sophie, getting to know her experiences in life as a non-royal new wife. It seems Megan completely ignored that very reasonable request from The Queen. How churlish of her.

Last weekend we binge-watched "The Windsors" on Netflix and we could not stop laughing. It was so silly, real slapstick kind of comedy. I had never heard of it before but I was looking for a comedy and it was recommended.

Semantics really. Didn’t think I needed to say she visited the staff at the women’s shelter and it has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. Not to mention nearly every headline says she visited the women’s shelter, which as far as I know the administrative office is located at the shelter.

It isn't. The administrative offices are in a decent building in a decent area.

The shelter is in a crappy building in a really bad location across from a park filled with homeless tents. I don't know how to link pics from google, but the addresses are on the charity's website.

Maybe MM did visit the shelter itself then on to Admin. They are hardly going to publish pics of women in a shelter especially if they are there escaping abuse.

This talks about the amount of money they could make and it's insane!

Hopefully they dont rely on the bank of dad for a long time. Cant be independent while still relying on parental funds. Hoping they honor their word and pay back the Frogmore renovation money.

I was thinking this as well. Escaping abuse or just in a horrible situation financially. Respecting their privacy would be of the upmost importance. Just because a MSM outlet didn't publish a picture of it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I can't believe there's a market for that. But that applies to a lot of things there's apparently a market for in the US. lol

Absolutely! It’s for their safety as well. In my town you can’t even find a physical address anywhere for the women’s shelter. Many of the women there are seeking safety after leaving domestic violence situations. It’s pretty secret for good reason.
