Who knew there were so many "royal experts" out there. Maybe they offer it as an Open Uni course?! :D

Someone asked if anyone has met any royals a few pages back - I met Princess Anne last year in Stranraer. And she was very sharp and engaging. She had a bit of a stern face but I think she was just really paying attention to what everyone was saying so she could have decent conversations. I liked her.
International rowing competition attracts thousands to Stranraer
not quite meeting for a handshake but....
May 16, 1991 I was honored to be in attendance
at a historic visit Queen Elizabeth made to address US Congress in Washington DC.
I'm looking at my official photo gifted to me
by a government photographer and she is wearing a soft pumpkin colored small brimmed hat and suit. I recall her speech was
delayed because they had to get a box for her to stand on at the podium. She was so tiny.
I also have a photo of me in the audience listening to her. One of my more memorable
visits to DC.

This is sweet how the same expression was captured.

A lot of people have the flu over here just now and I also worry about Her Majesty developing pneumonia but I am sure she has probably been vaccinated against both.

I'm just amazed the DM haven't done an article yet suggesting she could have coronavirus ;)

At age 75 Medicare would be paying for the vast part of his cardiac bypass surgery and assuming he also had Part B and Part D Medicare, he would actually pay very little for his surgery.

If he was only 63 or so and not yet eligible for Medicare, it would be a completely different story.

My mother paid something like $129 for the cost of her triple cardiac bypass in California two years ago. Medicare and Senior Dimensions insurance paid the rest

Very true that Medicare would have paid for most of his surgery and hospital stay in San Diego. He lives close enough to the U.S. to easily use his Medicare, which he can’t use in Mexico.

Whether the $5600/month is gross or net, it’s a considerable income in Mexico, where money goes further. This is likely why he lives there.

My Dad was hospitalized for several days last year. I didn't see the bill, but my sister reports that she paid the hospital $27 and change because that was simpler than submitting the lone bill to Medicare.

Dad is fine BTW.

ETA: I can spell most standard English words, I really can....

Just found an article saying they are not stripped of the HRH title but they will not be using it.
I am just wondering if the HRH titlea makes a difference in regards to security and how/who pays for it and the status of IPP.
Diana and Sarah were both stripped of the HRH titles after they divorced, correct?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to lose HRH titles and repay cash | Daily Mail Online

The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.

'Buckingham Palace does not comment on the details of security arrangements. There are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly funded security.

'This new model will take effect in the Spring of 2020.'

All the new arrangements that are due to come into effect in the spring will be reviewed by Buckingham Palace in 12 months.

The couple will no longer use the titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness, but they are not being stripped of them.

The Queen is very smart. It shows that she loves her family.

Prince Charles skips Mike Pence as he greets leaders, but it's no snub

“Prince Charles didn't snub Mike Pence at World Holocaust Forum, vice president's team says.

Despite a viral video making the rounds on social media, Prince Charles didn't snub Vice President Mike Pence, Pence's press secretary says. The video shows Prince Charles skipping over Pence as he stopped to shake hands with other world leaders in Jerusalem Thursday at the World Holocaust Forum.

However, the two shook hands and chatted backstage at the forum, Pence's team stated. The Clarence House, the household of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, also confirmed Pence and Charles spoke beforehand.

I'm wondering if Harry has been orchestrating this whole thing all along.

I can understand after his mother's tragic death that he might not want to be part of the royal family at all. It was such a tender age for him and has had a lifelong impact on him. I'm not saying he picked Meghan deliberately because she is biracial, but he had to know how most of his wacky family (Princess Michael of Kent, anyone?) and the smut press in the UK would react.

Harry and William are not the same people and they have different personalities and histories. To expect them to react the same way to life events is unreasonable. I personally think Harry has always chafed at the rules of being royal (SS uniform, naked partying in Vegas and his many other indiscretions). For all we know, William may feel equally trapped, but has just chosen other methods to deal with the stress.

I think Hary found an out for himself, and his desire to protect his son and wife are his only priority now. More power to him!

I wish all three of them well.

I was very happy to read what actually happened. I saw the video on twitter with a caption that said it was purposeful and I was like "gosh, I hope that's not the case. That would be really momentous." When I googled there were already a bunch of articles clearing it up.

The article is interesting, and the problem I see for the family, is that Meghan is not currently employed. She would not be able to file retroactively, based on previous employment, it would have to be based on current employment.

One issue that Prince Harry and Meghan may have, is the issue of "physical presence", you can't apply for Permanent resident, if you are flying to Europe or the United States every other week or so...that would break the conditions of the application process. No exigent circumstances for "royalty".

Thanks for your kind post, La Louve. I agree that, perhaps not fully consciously, Harry had wanted out. His mother was not treated particularly well by the RF and the press before she died. He may have only become aware of this as he reached adulthood. Her treatment by the press and subsequent death, would drive anyone to want out. And he meets Meghan, a strong woman who cares about causes as he does. I’m not even sure he expected her to be able to live under the restrictive life of the Royal Family for very long...but they would try and see how it went. It didn’t go well. Meghan isn’t cut out for living within the constraints of the RF, and neither is Harry. I know others see her as manipulating Harry, but I see them as a team...they both want each other to be happy, even if it involves a trade off. I expect they decided they could do more good for the world by stepping back...in whatever form that might take. Clearly, even though Harry gave up more than he expected, the leap of faith back from RF responsibilities is worth it or he would have done it differently when he was still privately negotiating with the Queen, PC and PW.

I, too, wish all three of them well. I expect we will see them accomplish good things.
