It was a fairly close environment being on a truck or a bus together, so there were social activities all the time… sometimes she was fully engaged and involved with everybody and other times she was completely withdrawn, complaining of headaches and that sort of thing,” he said.

“The worse thing of that withdrawal attitude or manifestation was, we were at a town in Potosi… Allison could not get out of bed… and she was just couldn’t get out of bed, just completely, not unresponsive, it wasn’t as though she was comatose, but she was curled up in bed and didn’t want to go anywhere.

“I said we should call the doctor and she said `no, she didn’t feel sick… I just don’t want to go out today’.”

Baden-Clay said he’d never seen his wife like that before.

“The next day she woke up normal more or less, as though nothing happened and I was delighted but also confused as to why that was,” he said.

“That sort of mood fluctuation continued throughout the trip.”

He said they stayed with friends in Quito and there was a day when his wife seemed well and a day when she did not.

Baden-Clay said his wife didn’t seem to know why she was feeling the way she was.

He said they went to the Galapagos Islands and his wife became very anxious again.

“She was just not great at certain times, at other times, she was fine,” he said.

Baden-Clay said they went to New York, then back to England where Ms Baden-Clay “crashed”.

“We took her to (a) hospital… and that was the first time we became aware of the possibility of the Lariam being a trigger for the episodes Allison had been having,” he said.

A relationship with a narcissist can cause acute PTSD, and leave the victim feeling paralysed and unable to move.

Okay, so I am FAR from caught up - but I just wanted to comment on his hyping himself up about his sharemarket prowess and Flight Centre.

I had the misfortune of working at Flightcentre for one year in 1999. (don't even ask )

Firstly I want to say that I admire Allison, because if she could work in that cut-throat, corporate environment which was incredibly competitive, then she was a strong woman (despite him trying to now portray her as an emotional weakling. Complete pap!)

As Mrs G. said, it's hard to be emotionally robust when you're married to a serial cheat!!:banghead:

But secondly I want to say that when you work at Flightcentre you are automatically issued with a certain amount of their shares as part of the standard package (trying to sweeten the deal because the retainer is SO low!!). So I really don't think he can necessarily take credit for being a share market mogul in that respect. He probably just sold the shares he received.

And finally - he is a great example of Narcissism 101!!! Keep talking Ger-aaaaard. Keep talking!!!

When Danny Boyle and Mr Fuller begin their deconstruction of Gerards Fairy Tale , there wont be a dry eye in the house. .. from helpless laughter..

Yep!!!(I don't really like exclamation marks, but needed them to make up the 5 minimum)

Down the garden Path maybe?
He has just oversold himself dreadfully.

I wonder if he sold houses like this - no wonder sales was down.

I would have walked off hours ago and left him carry on about the protective rangehood cover, and the magical bidet, and how beautiful the laundry was, and how he just absolutely knew I would fall deeply in love with it as soon as I saw it because it was so huge.

Sorry - got carried away with some of his descriptive's he used today.
;)

RSBM. Sorry but that had me laughing hard because he wouldn't be talking about the house would he?

Gerard says he worked locally to be available for Allison. He often had to drop everything to go home and help her. #badenclay

Gerard says he and his mother and father sold homes in the area "and we were very good". #badenclay

Oh really? Daddy said in his testimony that all he did was put up signs -?

Which boy scout gets the perjury badge?

A narcissist doesn't show care because they actually care - it's to look good to others. In his mind she owed him big time - plus interest - for things being not All About Gerard.

While GBC is now putting his sickly sweet spin on "Looking After Allison" if he just did a tenth of what he said, a narcissist would be brewing massive amounts of resentment and anger. Judging by his strong reluctance to do the 15 minute sessions, that resentment and anger was still bubbling away barely under the surface.

Yes, when couples present to relationship counselling, the immediate level of hostility/emotional distress felt and/or acted out in the current relationship is critical to assess for 'safety' reasons. The two partners might be in very different places. What may work for one partner, may be inflammatory for the other partner and place one of the partners 'at risk' of harm. My opinion only.

Well, Makara said a while ago that he'd take the stand. I didn't believe it -- didn't believe Byrne would let him

Just as well Laser it wasn't Byrne's choice. I have no doubt he was heavily counselled against taking the stand...but Narcissists like Gerred want their time in the sun...

I thought Byrne was long winded but after hearing Gerry....Byrne's oration was a synopsis.

She was flat, incapable of much at all. She spoke to my mum -Gerard #badenclay

Why is he doing this to her?

Because she can't answer to the contrary.:maddening:
And he'll do anything he has to get off, obviously doesn't care about her family and daughters.

OMG!!! Just walked in from work! 50 pages to go through! He took the stand! This will require wine. Lots of wine. Thank you to everyone who re-tweeted and commented. Big night ahead for me. No dinner is being cooked until I have read every single thing!

Good idea. You definitely don't want to be reading that on a full stomach.

A question for Alioop: does his taking the stand today mean that Prosecution gets the 'last word'?

Exactly, it can be so subtle and covert that you don,t know what's hit you, you know something is wrœng but you can't put your finger on it. Nobody else can see it. The are quite convincing and appear to care and they only belittle you for your own good, to motivate you to be better, do better.

WWGY and I were there in court today. Biggest crowd I have seen to date. No doubt WWGY will tell the version of events in due course. If it wasn't for WWGY I would never had made it into court today.

But here is my version of events. I couldn't believe how incredibly boring Byrne was today he took nearly two hours to go through GBC's history with Allison, then GBC takes the stand and we hear it from him. OMG

'you will hear GBC discuss frankly and openly about his infidelities'
'you will hear GBC discuss frankly and openly his business ups and downs'
'you will hear GBC discuss frankly and openly his love for his girls'
'you will hear GBC discuss frankly and openly how he got those scratches'
he just didn't stop......UGH!

And of course GBC was freshly shaven (no scratches anywhere in sight I was slightly disappointed - didn't they think it would increase his credibility to maybe repeat the episode and show he was ***** at shaving?) He was wearing a yellow shirt and tie, obviously in Allison's honour.
And was dabbing his eyes when he struck a fond memory of his passed wife.

When GBC got on the stand - I was expecting a bit less of an intro to the soap opera life of the BC's but holy Toledo - it was worse than the freakin Barrister. The Barrister started at the beginning and was not leaving a stone unturned. He was on and on and on -from when they first met to about the times Allison & GBC had in Sth America and such detailed stories about each place where Allison got sick - and stayed in bed all day and let him go out and explore.

One of the most interesting parts was mentioned by WWGY in court today GBC's team have set up a routine/excuse for for the phone to be replaced on the charger at 1:18am. Allison 'apparently' took GBC's phone as soon as he got home to check it and handed it back to him in the morning. So ostensibly, Allison would have had to put in on the charger - hope the Prosecution have a way to make this bit of trouble go away.

I couldn't listen to anymore of GBC's drivel - I had enough of the stupid happy family story that began as a fairytale and ended up with him belittling and gaslighting Allison.

Tishy
I am no Alioop. But yes, Gerry taking the stand means that the Prosecution gets the closing address.

lifestyles of the rich and famous!
i dont understand why he was allowed to go on and on about himself like that, what was the point? hes up for murdering his wife, not applying for a job, why wasnt he talking about the night allison died and what his theory is, who killed her? surely if youve been imprisoned for two years for something you didnt do you would be anxious to finally clear your name!? where is all this self promotion leading?

Leading to a excruciatingly detailed self-portrait of a narcissist.

I'm wondering whether GBC was scaring Allison, talking about disasters and so on?

I can only speak for myself but when I'm down i carry the weight of the world with me. Any negative event that goes on around me will be like more weight I have to carry around. I do get very pessimistic about what a horrible world we live in so I figure it's probably just a sign of her depression/anxiety being bad.

I see his constant mentions of her depression/anxiety symptoms as being a "look at me and what a fabulous person I am. I had to suffer all her ups and downs, forego business class jaunts, do everything around the house all while i make an immense amount of money using my immeasurable gifts, despite having to drop what i was doing at any given moment, and I did it for beautiful Allison because that's the fabulous guy I am and would never harm her."
