The Fall Of Kabul To The Taliban

Not much of the withdraw and evacuation from there seems well thought out . It appears to me this was a surrender to the terrorists plan instead. The military base being abandoned, the lack of a cohesive plan to evacuate thousands of citizens under enemy control at a civilian airport vs a militarily controlled one? The billions worth of military arms and equipment..aircraft etc left for our now good buds...the taliban?

And please ex enemy, now our good and trusting friends...take a picture of yourselves sitting on one of our humvees in our uniforms holding our weapons. We will make sure Reuters ,AP, CNN and Fox get the photo!

Thanks taliban...for opening the prisons, and letting out who knows how many additional terrorists to mingle with the flow of refugees. You guys have been a great help to us, and we sure do appreciate it...And by the way, here's a list of people and all their identity papers to help you in your quest for....what is it again? ..
Maybe we went with the super-dooper secret CIA 'knock on wood' plan?

Just complete nonsense! And the spin just keeps on spinning!

They had to know something like this would happen.

PEN FARTHING, the animal rescuer stranded in Afghanistan, has admitted defeat and is prepared to leave Kabul on a flight home, leaving behind his dogs and cats, and his staff members.

Pen Farthing has admitted attempts to rescue his employees and almost 200 animals from Afghanistan have failed with the ex-Royal Marine faced with leaving Kabul airport alone. Mr Farthing has been campaigning for weeks for "Operation Ark," a last-ditch attempt to get his rescue animals and staff members out of the reach of the Taliban. However, he has since told BBC that Thursday's terrorist attack, combined with rule changes by President Biden, meant he is now being forced to abandon his animals and colleagues.

Agree.

Will they need the Covid vaccine as well? I'm serious.

Va. Congresswoman: DoD authorizes Fort Pickett to temporarily house Afghan refugees

{snipped}

However, before the refugees step foot on American soil, they go through extensive biometric screenings and testing for COVID-19.

“They’re going to be offered vaccines,” Warner said. “Good news is they’re taking them at a higher rate than Virginians. If they do come to Fort Pickett, it will be like Fort Lee where they will come and then move on elsewhere in the country.”

Warner said most refugees were staying at Fort Lee anywhere from two to five days before heading to communities sponsoring those who evacuated.

“We’ve got a big, big Afghan community up in Northern Virginia, they’re taking in a lot of people,” he added.

And he can't get it through his head that it is not that he pulled out. It is how he did it. Notice when he has no answer to a question he goes back to that. Or brings up Beau. Another way to deflect and change the subject.

Agreed.
I think even nonmilitary types would have had a plan in place to protect U.S. interests and esp. the citizens over there in Afghanistan.
What a shame to leave weapons and equipment for the Taliban to seize.
It's like the world has turned upside down. :(

So, let’s look at it this way. I will speak based on my past experience as a Nurse so I don’t say anything that will get me banned for life, eternity, and so on.

OK, let’s say I work dayshift as a Nurse. A pt is assigned to me that has been struggling with suicidal thoughts. I do not assess the pt for current suicidal thoughts on my shift and the pt hurts himself on the unit. If a root cause analysis is completed, can I say that the Night Nurse assessed the pt for suicidal thoughts on his/her shift and that that Nurse said that pt denied it and then I am free and clear and don't need to assess the pt for safety anymore? ABSOLUTELY not…. The buck stops here and with me! I didn’t assess my pt on my shift when I was responsible and what happened is certainly not the Night Nurse's responsibility. You can look at this in many different contexts…. Blood pressure normal last night… does it mean I do not have to take it in the morning and re-check it? Nope. I will have to continue taking it so I can ensure that the pt continuous to do well.

Afghanistan… The buck stops with the current President and his administration! Sure, there were things that were done and decided in the past before this current President took office. But the current President has to keep up on the pulse of the situation… and must ensure that the plan is updated as new information is learned.

OK, is this ok to say in this manner?

I cried while reading. Praying for our VETS and Operation Pineapple. They are IN Kabul !!! I hope they get out !!!

US special operations vets carry out daring mission to save Afghan allies

With the Taliban growing more violent and adding checkpoints near Kabul's airport, an all-volunteer group of American veterans of the Afghan war launched a final daring mission on Wednesday night dubbed the "Pineapple Express" to shepherd hundreds of at-risk Afghan elite forces and their families to safety, members of the group told ABC News.

Moving after nightfall in near-pitch black darkness and extremely dangerous conditions, the group said it worked unofficially in tandem with the United States military and U.S. embassy to move people, sometimes one person at a time, or in pairs, but rarely more than a small bunch, inside the wire of the U.S. military-controlled side of Hamid Karzai International Airport.

I'm sorry to hear that.

An interesting question by the press to Kirby at the Pentagon briefing today.

From Jen Griffin :
"How many ISIS-K prisoners were left at Bagram and believed to have been released from the prison there & why weren't they removed before the U.S. pulled out to some place like Gitmo?"

Kirby: "Well, I don't know the exact number. Clearly, it's in the thousands"

Pentagon says only ONE suicide bomber attacked Kabul airport, killing 170 including 13 US troops | Daily Mail Online

Pentagon officials said on Friday that there was only one suicide bomber at Kabul airport on Thursday and not two, as previously claimed, adding to confusion over the attack and fears for the ongoing operation on the ground.

Speaking at a briefing on Friday, Army General Hank Taylor said: 'I can confirm that we do not believe there was a second explosion at or near the Baron hotel. It was one suicide bomber. In the confusion of very dynamic events can cause information to get confused,' he said.

He did not say whether the bomb that went off was car bomb or bomber in a vest. Both were described on Thursday on the ground and by Washington officials. The Pentagon's Press Secretary, John Kirby, was among those who confirmed both of the blasts.

At the same briefing on Friday, Kirby revealed that thousands of terrorists from ISIS-K, the group responsible for the attack at the airport, escaped from Bagram prison earlier this summer after Biden's troops cleared out from the base, leaving it to outnumbered Afghan forces to supervise them.

US troops suddenly abandoned the base overnight on July 2. The prisoners were filmed being freed by the Taliban on August 15.

Military experts have pinpointed the sudden, overnight withdrawal of US troops from Bagram on July 2 as the moment the US gave Afghanistan away.

Since Thursday, the US has only evacuated 300 Americans from Kabul but up to 1,000 remain stranded. The government claims not everyone wants to leave but they can't get in touch with everyone to check.

General Taylor also revealed on Friday that the US is sharing the names of citizens and Afghan allies with the Taliban, but claims it is so the fighters ensure they can get through to the airport.

Former President Donald Trump said on Thursday night that it equates to giving them a 'kill list' of enemies and where to find them.

Well that's a lot of questions answered right there. Speechless...

I’m a animal lover, heart breaking to hear Pen Farthing is forced to leave Afghanistan without staff and the animals.
