Glad I found her -- I was remembering her as being much more like the girl in the yellow shorts, too. Definitely a suggestion worth checking out -- just because the answer is no doesn't mean it was a bad idea.

Side by side. Yes they do look close -- and the hair in the bun, too.

Though since she wasn't murdered until 1982, she can't be an Alcala victim. It would be a weird coincidence if he took her picture and then years later somebody else killed her...

Weird but not unheard of. I talked to the detective in charge of the deceased doe and he said due to the facial features they are not the same.

Somewhere in the earlier posts, I recall reading something about Alcala and the Rockefeller Estate. Could this possibly be it? I've looked at a few pictures of it and the tree in the background of this photo looks similar to some in the pictures of this estate.

Lying adjacent to that large Rockefeller Estate is Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. (Yes, THAT Sleepy Hollow.) An image Google:

Not that much better a match than any other cemetery but you can see in some pics that there are open, grassy spots away from the tombstones.

Alcala took at minimum two women into "The Rockies" as the locals call the place. One, Ellen Hover, was found dead there a year later. The other reported her experience to the police after that happened. She may be Helmet Girl, if Helmet Girl made it back OK. But I'm wondering how many women total did he take there? Did he like to hang around snapping the pretty ladies in Sleepy Hollow the way he trolled the beach in California?

Yellow Shorts Girl is in front of trees which throw shadows in her direction. Assuming about the same time of day 30-40 years later, she just about fits into the Sleepy Hollow picture.

Looking harder at how the shadows run in both pictures, I think the modern "Your-future-grave-here" landscape is looking south to north, early morning, summer. (Shadows long and slanting right to left, running slightly away.) Alcala's shot is perhaps facing WNW in mid-late afternoon. (Shadows slanting left to right.) The girl is probably framed against what would be the left side of the modern picture.

All based on the idea that the sun doesn't shine out of the north too often in New York State.

Still think that's the place.

There are small trees white with blossoms. Apple? Maybe mid-morning, spring. Doesn't change much of the reasoning from there.

I can't say 100% but I don't think it's Sandra just by looking at her toes. The comment in Sandra's CP page mentions that her second toes are MUCH larger than her big toes. From the picture of the girl in the shorts in the park you can see her toes and it doesn't look like her second toes are larger. They look shorter to me.

As many of you know, I am in the process of writing a book about these unidentified photos. It's a very long and tedious project because of the great amount of time that has passed. But, in my research, I have come across people (women mostly) who knew things about Alcala either through knowing him in the past or knowing someone else who knew him.

I have recently learned the location of this photo and also some other information that I don't believe anyone else knows about. This photo was taken in 1971 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The girl in the photo was seen around campus AFTER the day of the photo. That isn't to say that she didn't later fall victim to Alcala, but unlikely. At the time of the photo, he was living in an apartment in Ann Arbor above the person that I am talking to. He was living there under the name John Berger, but he told this person that his real name was Rod.

Now, this brings me to the thought that there might very well be victims in Michigan.

Since I only received the info a couple of days ago, I am still thinking about what (if anything) I personally can do. The info was given to me by a person who has herself tried many times to tell LE in the area. She has called. She says, for whatever reason, that they are not receptive to her since he is already incarcerated. I am currently looking into missing women in that area. This is a daunting task for sure! I'm hoping that some folks will take an interest and step up to help.

He was in jail August 1971 to August 1974.

He was only out from August 74 to October 74 and then back in again until June of 1977 when he was once again released on parole.

I've looked at Kathy Wilcox before, but he was in jail during the time she went missing. The other girl is REALLY interesting to me because she went missing the same month he was released from prison. I could see him murdering someone the very DAY he got out if the chance arose. Gonna look into this girl!

He was released on August 3rd from prison in California. She went missing August 16th from Michigan. Did he get out of prison and go right to Michigan?
