The Jury Speaks Thread

It is also possible this jury would have no problem rendering a DP verdict, but some didn't feel this case warranted it.

Yes that is another possibility. Just b/c the DP is on the table it doesn't automatically mean the DP is the right verdict.

IMO, however, this case does warrant a DP sentence. If JA had truly acted in self defense, or even if it was a true crime of passion, I.e., she snapped then I could understand that for some it was a verdict they couldn't render. But when you consider the cruelty of this crime along with the premeditation, heaped with lies, lies, lies, and more lies then for me it doesn't pass the smell test.

This isn't even a case where premeditation was found in the "moments before the murder." It was planned for weeks in advance, that we know of. It could have been longer for all we know.

What's also telling for me--although not necessicarily a mitigator that she deserves death--is the fact that the DT doesn't appear to be rushing to make a deal regarding the DP. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that JA refuses to make that deal.

Anyway, all IMO, MOO etc., etc.

I thought of this thread today - as it has been discussed whether an anti-death penalty juror would lie to get on the jury.

It seems two potential jurors in the Zimmerman case have been exposed for being less than truthful - one from each side. One stated he was unbiased and it was revealed he attended a rally for TM and had written some strong statements on his Facebook page against GZ.... Another juror stated he was unbiased and it was revealed he had given money to the GZ defense fund.

So.... this obviously goes on - some are revealed as above, but certainly some are not. Just some food for thought - especially for my friends who are *certain* that the foreman would have voted for death if CMJA "deserved it".

I take long breaks from here due to this (Jodi) case. I come back and read and im not sure why because it just all pisses me off all over again.

I will repeat for the zillionth time....the jury system is severely broken and does not work in its present form....and you gave a great real life example as to why....as if jury 18 didn't do so already.

Even with all the jury experts in the world, lying, manipulating, incapable people will get through and decide cases where their morality, reason, logic, comprehension, etc...or lack thereof...is the deciding factor in a case.

I find it rather horryifying.

I didn't follow the CA trial here.....but I can understand people's distain for the entire CJ system after that case. I feel it now. It will take me awhile to get over it.

I have nothing but ill words to say about jury #18. At least Jodi gained a new friend to keep her company during her time in jail. @@ Anyone who defends the likes of Jodi in any capacity is no better than her, IMO.

Besides the CA bogus verdict there was.... Robert Blake and O.J. Simpson. Overwhelming forensics in all cases! I like the idea of "Professional Juries".

I have to ask. Why on earth would you think a professional juror would still not be human and make judgment mistakes? He/she would still judge someone by their own life experience.

I don't the GZ trial will never be decided fairly, regardless of where one stands on his guilt or innocence. There will be too many stealth jurors lying to get on the jury. And another thing.....it's Florida.

That's what I don't get about the people doing these interviews. If I was interviewing him and got that answer? I'd have no choice but to pull out the photos of Travis and ask a simple follow-up question: "Did you not see these photos?"

The foreman should never have been on any jury. Ever. He doesn't know how to apply common sense, science or evidence. JA should never walk the streets again. I wonder though, if he ever lived in Pinellas County, Florida?

Ok ...

but the foreman/jury asked the Judge for guidance on which form to use when a unanimous verdict had not yet been reached ...

the Judge answered their question/cleared up their confusion by replying that they were to use the "Juror Question" form ...

and the foreman chose to ultimately use the "Verdict" form, despite the Judges clear response ...

so why, in your opinion, did the foreman use the "Verdict" form when he should have followed the Judges clear direction and used the "Juror Question" form?
a. He was an idiot.
b. He has Oppositional Defiance Disorder
c. He was trying to force the Judge into making the life or DP decision.
d. All of the above.
e. None of the above.

A and B?
I think he just wanted to get a rise in people and be interviewed telling all the world that Jodi was just "stupid". Guess it takes stupidity to know it when he saw it.

Ha Ha!! I know what you mean. I have to be in a certain frame of mind - or have a glass of wine first. It is discouraging to feel the system is broken and then to *see* living examples of why!! Stay strong!

I thought maybe a book deal but on another thread the big news was that several jurors were going to the courthouse on Thursday to be there for the Status Conference

I wish I was a juror in the CA case, but you'd might like this. A restaurant called Skyline Chili posted on their entrance door," IF you are a Casey Anthony Juror you are NOT welcomed". Never ate there before, but when I read it in the paper, had to go and thank them. I called my husband at work when the verdict was in, and repeated, the not guilty, not guilty, not guilty, and he said, are you kidding me. No one I know here could believe it. I mean, not even manslaughter. Guess they wanted to go home and watch fireworks. To find one idiot, but 12 is still unreal to me.

That to me was the most alarming thing he said that he felt Jodi was not a danger to society. I don't have any earthly idea how you could look at those photos of Travis and believe she isn't a danger. It just doesn't make sense. He must have really been besotted with her.

I totally agree with you about the jury foreman. How ever in the world could he justify her killing Travis Alexander? JA is one extremely dangerous person!!!

After hearing about the Lifetime movie coming out, when I heard today that the defense wants a delay, my first thought was so they could argue the movie tainted the new jurors.

Oh my goodness, I hadn't thought of that. Crap, you may well be correct.

Thanks TexMex! Wonder if the Alexander family will be at the SC too?
