The message on the door

"Over the last four years, Shacknai met with the city's Historic Resources Commission five times to discuss changes he wanted at the mansion.

They included replacing the original windows with French doors"

Seems to me replacing ANY door in the mansion would have been a problem for Shacknai with the City Commission and City Council.

So you're saying that the city of Coronado would have preferred a killer to be allowed to remain in their midst as opposed to letting SDSO keep a door as evidence?

If that's true, I'll make sure not to visit Coronado again. Seriously, it seems highly unlikely they would make such a decision. But they were never asked. SDSO returned the door per Jonah's demand.

What I'm saying is, once the door was photographed and samples were taken of the paint, and it was dusted and photographed for fingerprints, and Rebecca's fingerprints were lifted from the door knob, there was no need for the SDSO to keep the door.

And who knows if Jonah had something from the City saying he could make NO changes to what was there, so the SDSO just put the door back. Since there was no reason for them to keep the actual door.

I should have been analyzed by a professional for style, direction of the strokes and how pressure was applied. The original would have been the best for this, but that is not to say that it couldn't be done by photograph if there is enough detail.

The door could have provided much more evidence, especially if the investigation had progressed. We don't know what they tested it for, or didn't test for. But now we'll never know.

I completely agree with this.... on the door could be anything from latent fingerprints, DNA that doesn't belong there, fabric, hand, foot or shoe prints not easily noticeable - on either side of the door - as well as elements of the paint/message that are not easy to analyze from a picture. Is there any pic of the door with luminol on it or reports they even went that far? Or dusted for fingerprints?

Investigators would have gotten everything off the door possible. The are trained in this.

Why hasn't Anne Bremner released the photo of the door and all the evidence in the files? Because it shows Rebecca was the one that killed herself, IMO.

Ok, notwithstanding the cease and desist letter from JS and a rather glaring warning from Gore, what do you suppose is in those files that proves it? I get why they haven't released a lot of information. They are still waiting on a review of the case from the AG.

Let's say that the AG turns them down (I sincerely hope not) what do you believe their next step would be?

TIA for your response.

They haven't released any more information because of what is in there about Rebecca and because it shows she was impulsive. Anne quit leaking the second Gore said he would release the entire file.

I think the texts back and forth with Rebecca and Jonah say a lot about what was being discussed about Max's accident and Rebecca's state of mind. I think there are some things about Rebecca's past. I believe there are things about Rebecca and Jonah's private sexual practices. IMO

IMO, I don't see it going any further if the AG turns down the case again. There are no grounds for a civil case since Rebecca committed suicide. What I hope I see is the Zahaus going back on Dr. Phil for suicide survivor counseling so they can accept it and start the grieving and healing process.

BBM. I question the value of suicide survivor counseling from going on tv.

I think RZ's estate can be listed as a respondant for wrongful death.

MyBelle, I totally agree and think that they would need extensive counseling. But IMO, Dr. Phil would be a first step and they seem to like to appear on his program.

Perhaps so but Dr. Phil's audience may not be quite as sympathetic because it involves a suicide of a caretaker following the death of a small child in her care.

I think a better question is why investigators allowed the door to be painted over so quickly.

Now contrast that with why does sdso refuse to relinquish Rebecca's cell phone and computer to her family going on two years after her death?

The family can't have it both ways. They requested the AG order a new investigation giving the the SDSO little choice but to preserve the chain of evidence. Electronic devices can be tampered with.

So can entire houses...

So can painted over doors, no?

Possibly a judicial review will be able to answer some of these very difficult questions.
