Most parents won't notice the latest anti-loitering technology if it comes to Long Island. But their kids will.

A Welsh company has been selling the Mosquito -- a small black box that broadcasts a high-frequency, irritating tone generally audible only to people younger than 25 -- to prevent them from hanging around storefronts and street corners.

This sound has also recently been sold as a ringtone for cellphones. Most schools ban students from carrying/using cell phones in class. The ringtone is supposedly so high-pitched that most adults cannot hear it. The student hears the phone ringing and can attend to it without the teacher having any idea. I have heard the ring and I can hear it just fine.
