On his blog he again refers to Harry Potter . . .

I have just enough Native American and Hispanic blood to claim myself as LAMANITE Malfoy in the Harry Potter series would call me a Muggle or Mud-Blood. In any case, I am proud of my Native American grandfather and my Mexican grandfather. Both have overcome many obstacles to give their families the lifestyles we have now. It is what it is my friends!

I don't know any other way to get into this than to post it. I mean NO harm to or endorsement of any religion.

The Lamanite tribe is one of the tribes said to have been living in N. America in the Book Of Mormon. The various tribes died out due to wickedness, etc.. except for one ( I don't remember the specific one from my Religious History course in college).
LDS members believe that Native Americans are descendents from the tribes said to have been roaming North America during the same time period that the Old Testament of the Bible was written, and after Jesus' birth and death in the time period of the New Testament. I doubt too many people who have not recently studied " religions and cults" and are non- LDS would know the reference to a Lamanite...

Thanks, Golfmom. I hope you don't mind me quoting a part of your post. It kind of hit me in the face, since I have just been reading about the beliefs of LDS members.

Gasp! Fabulous Catch!
gotta google ... gotta google ...

So I have to ask because it's bugging me . . .

Is Raven his given name or is it an Indian / Harry Potter / Lamanite thing that he adopted this name?

I ask because he's made himself out to be at least a guy with some pretty sweet soccer skills. I would think I would have found at least one reference (after my serious case of google eyes) of him as a player or on a roster. What am I missing? Why haven't I found anything? I can find references to Janet everywhere. Is it because he played under another name?

Maybe someone in VA can look up the marriage license and find out if that is his legal name.

I haven't Googled this yet- You may be able to save me the time of doing so.. Did you turn up anything about a male soccer player with the last name of Abaroa?

What I am about to write is pure supposition, but; Raven appears to be his name, best as I can tell. That said, the whole soccer thing is purely him pumping himself up. You can find All-American player Janet everywhere because she didn't talk about it, she did it. I can't help but note how he's got his soccer stuff up on an early version of the site, but no mention of her and soccer is ever made in any manner whatsoever. Lots of what I see with Raven is Hannibal Lecter's "elaboration of a bad liar," -- an analogy Lecter uses in a note to Clarice Starling to show her why "Buffalo Bill's" dump patterns point to his kill zone.

Here's why I think he's self-promoting what were likely average skills in the game; the fact that he claimed he started coaching and training people when he would have been 14. That just struck me as wrong, even if there is a rational explanation for it.

Lookit -- accused of embezzling; the very minor detail of him plagiarizing that Menominee site, minor but telling; the absence of Janet from that site. The absence of the plural "we." I feel guilty if I tell my kid to get out of "my" room, referring to the bedroom. I'll correct myself to "our."

Raven wrote in a way that seemed to indicate he was the only one who mattered. Who was really there. There are intimations of deceptive behavior everywhere. Everything about his sites screams the following; he doesn't understand how it all actually comes across. I'm sorry, I would have thought him a completely self-absorbed and narcissistic s.o.b. if I'd just happened on the site while randomly surfing and Janet was still alive. If he was using the site to promote himself business-wise at any time, a savvy HR person would have spotted that quality, too.

In a way, I feel worse than ever about being so suspicious of John Mason in the Wilbanks case; nothing about John-o set off the hink-o-meter like this guy does. Puts things into perspective.

I predict Durham police will announce an arrest in the coming week.

I didn't, but there are so many permutations of search terms one can try, someone else may. But I did not, and it was hard to not notice this.

No other than Eduardo Abaroa who is not our guy. Otherwise, when you google soccer abaroa all you pretty much get is Janet.

Theories about Lamanites' "skin of blackness"
In the Book of Mormon, Lamanites are described as having a "skin of blackness" caused by God as punishment for their wickedness and corruption:
............

While most Mormons consider this passage to mean that God actually darkened the Lamanites' skin, a few Mormons interpret the phrase "skin of blackness" more figuratively, or hypothesize that Lamanites may have intermarried with indigenous Native American peoples with darker skin.

Several Book of Mormon passages have been interpreted by some Mormons as indicating that Lamanites would revert to a lighter skin tone upon accepting Mormon teachings.

1) Famous Mexican soccer player Eduardo Abaroa... Maybe both Raven's first and last names are legally changed names! The man that Ann Rule wrote about in "Every Breath You Take".. The guy in her book was a total narcissitic ( ? spelling) person. Or, maybe he " adapted" parts of Eduardo Abaroa's story of fame as a soccer player and he never really was a soccer player at all. Kind of like if my last name was an unusual famous name, and I picked up a great deal of info about the truly famous person, and either became interested or feigned interest in the reason for fame because of the unusual last name, inferring that I was somehow related.

2) Janet was a " devout Mormon" according to WRAL in the initial reporting of her murder.

I never even considered the possibility that his last name may have been changed as well.
LOL ... Teach me not to assume anything ...

We should know more about in-laws names after her obit is posted online. The funeral was today. If her father in law is mentioned and has the last name of Abaroa, we might know for certain..
However, the guy in Ann Rule's book, Alan somebody, changed his last name to Blackthorne because it was the name of an infamous pirate. He " identified" with the name.
He had a rather unusually bad family as well and one of his brothers changed their name to Blackthorne, too, as I recall. Both had committed crimes at the time of their name change in early adulthood.

Found an interesting request for info from people with the Abaroa surname on the Ancestry.com message board in 1999. The author is a V. Vance.
He or she gave a yahoo.com address for contact. No one ever replied.

However, when I did a little backtracking on V.Vance on the site, I got the email address:
DY[email protected]

DESERET is Mormon- affiliated in numerous ways.. VERY common LDS business name in Salt Lake City. Deseret is also ithe name of one of their publishing houses.
One of those things which make me go "Hmm". ( I know they do lots of genealogy work, but still).

BTW, the story about the Sheila Belush murder is just now coming on A and E. How weird...old and solved case, and I just mentioned it with the Alan Blackthorne reference.

More misc. info to add to our collection

Interest 1 Janet is interested in the Harry Potter series. After reading all 4 books once, she is moving through again.

Interest 2 GOLF... It's a "getting older" sport : ) Actually, I am really interested in the way the game is played. A ball that fits in my fist can get hit accurately over 200 yards (or that is the point anyway), amazing. I have only played once, but with my new set of clubs, and a need to hit around with clients, anything is possible. Any suggestions, email me!

Interest 3 Puzzles and games anyone? While Janet is loving the very difficult puzzles both on the PC and on cardboard, I have really enjoyed car, motorcycle and sport games on the PC. Microsoft Millennium and having a VooDoo card makes games so awesome.

Monday, January 29, 2001 :
I am so blessed to have my best friend as a wife. Janet is the most special girl. I love her so much. Today I went to play basketball. Before I left, she made me and my friend Les breakfast. What a sweat and tender young girl. I love everything there is about her!
The gospel is true. I bear testimony to you, brothers and sisters, that as you commit yourselves to the Lord and to being true to yourself, blessings will come. Remember to have faith, remember to be strong, remember that no matter who you are, or where you are, that Heavenly Father knows you. He knows your heart. He knows your name. Be kind to others, be true to yourself.

Did you tunnel your way to Janet and Raven's Photo pages? Wedding pix, etc.

The following may or may not be of any interest; Raven's registration info for the website;

R Abaroa
Ravenstree
PO Box 21603
Hillsborough NC 27278

Here's what may be a puzzle -- does he have a PO Box? If so, what purpose does it serve? Do police know?

If you look through the site where the wedding pics are posted their is a page that tells you about his heritage. His MATERNAL grandfather's last name was Abaroa and his mat. grandfather was hispanic.
