The Rally To Restore Sanity,Oct 30 2010

  • #21
WOW. I would love to hear from those who attended the rally.

Did you read where the estimated crowd for this rally was bigger than for Glen Beck's?

Granted it depends on who you ask but if you look at the pictures I would say the the "Sanity" crowd was just as large as Beck's crowd.

I didn't go because of schedule conflicts and I kind of didn't want to die... LoL

(Seriously: there has been a sniper on the lose shooting up military places in the VA suburbs of DC. First the person shot at a Marine museum, then shot at the Pentagon, then shot at a defunct Marine recruiting office, and then went back and shot at the museum right before the rally and Marine marathon. I really was worried about Saturday's gathering and Sunday's marathon... worried that the nut with the gun would use the large crowds for target practice. Thank goodness that didn't come to pass... but still, the threat was very real and left a lot of people on pins and needles. I had no desire to go and be probable target practice for a nut with a gun.)

I would have killed to go, well almost. My favorite line was Colbert's..I am quoting from memory but it went something like "Your reasonableness is interupting my fear."

God bless those of you who braved the crowds. I laughed that there was a refusal to release the crowd estimates regarding it this weekend... :)

Just found this thread...

My DD is a frosh @ Vassar. She went to the Rally on one of Arianna Huffington's buses - from NYC to DC. I will quote a few of her texts to me from her phone here verbatim:

So we're loading buses at Mets Stadium. I thought I got a seat on the Huffington Post bus. Apparently, I got a seat on one of 250 Huffington Post buses!!!!

....I CAN NOT BELIEVE there are 250 buses going! Holy crap! How's this even going to work?

... we just left. now I know why we had to get here so early.

... I wonder what people in their cars are thinking about this 250 bus caravan going by them. I feel sorry for them.

...I'd be too scared to drive a car right now on this thruway.

....it's fine...I put on my music and took a nap but I'm up now. it's looking like a big sprawl of city now.

....i thought we were there but it's just a big long city or something.

...I guess we are unloading at another sports stadium in DC. We have to figure out how to get to the mall now.

... Okay sorry. It's been a little crazy. We're fine.

... not yet.

...it took 2 hours to get on the Washington metro and get to the Mall bc there were 250 busloads trying to get into the subway stop at the metro.

....moo. its official I'm a cow.

....no, we actually made it on time! We're here!

...Well, not exactly the mall. we're stuck on a a side street - we can just the mall ahead ...

...No we can't see anything. I can't even hear anything except everyone around us.

...who's on?

... I don't think we get to see the show if people don't leave

...no can't. the mall is full and the side street is very backed up.

...I have never seen so many people in my entire life...

...Andy's friend called us. I guess we're going to some museum - the "newseum". she works there.

... she said we can see the rally from a window there.

....yeah it's good. way better! there's a big screen here with the rally on and we can watch from the window too.

...I could have watched a big screen at school too. LOL.

... no, glad I came. plus we can see how humungous this thing is from the museum window...

...ya it's really amazing ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...god I hope they'll all go home and vote...

There's more but it's about the trip home.

Oh to be young again, eh? :D

My son went and thought it was a great time. That's what he texted me. LOL

I DVR'd the rally, but I haven't watched it. I have watched a lot of the videos online. I missed a party. I thought it looked well planned, loved the decor, and they had a lot of porta-potties there. LOL I hated to have missed this event.

I would have given anything to be there.
We have friends who took their 2 teenage daughters to D.C. for this, I'm waiting to hear all about it and have my own personal Rally button delivered.. I'm pretty easy to please.

OHH YES. Truer words were never spoken. Except perhaps, "Youth is wasted on the young."

I would have loved to have gone and would have jumped on the bus had there been one from SLC to D.C. What a blast.

This does not surprise me in the least. I love it that John Stewart said he was going to ignore the numbers then proceeded to announce he was looking at "millions and millions" of people at the rally. haha.

This should tell all sides of the political debate that the vast majority of us, no matter what side, are so sick of their crap and ugliness.

My DD just arrived home I was susposed to go but didnt. She also asked for asprin.

I dont think saniity has been restored as my DD is already being nutty.

Soulmagnet I am sorry you couldn't make it.

Nope, they needed asprin. Insanity rules.:D

BTW, DD tells me she got some great photographs. She shows me. It's all of her and her boyfriend. They could have been on the boardwalk for all I could see.

A friend of mine went and got excellent photographs. I'll ask if he could somehow link them to me so I can post.

Anyone got asprin, cotton and an antibiotic?

Funny signs: our local ABC affiliate showed a few. They showed one that put me in a fit of giggles, and I still can't figure out why: all that the sign said was "HEY". LoL I loved it! :)

*comes running back in* OMG, a lot of those signs on KT's link are freaking HILARIOUS. Couple of my favorites so far: the "OMG, SNAKE!" parody flag... the Muslim lady's "I scare Juan Williams at the airport" sign...

I know Elphaba, there are so many good ones! I love the random ones like "My Arms Hurt"..."The People Behind Me Can't See"..."This Sign Is Heavy"..."Down With This Sort Of Thing"..."I Want More Tortillas When I Order Fajitas At A Restaurant"..."Does This Sign Make Me Look Fat?"..."My Feet Hurt".......

When I first looked at it there were only 238 pics posted and now there are over 400...if you can make it beyond 200 they get funnier and funnier!!!

Thanks for posting the link here, KT Cat. Besides being hysterically funny, I love the fact that so many of the signs show plain ole common sense. Guess that was the point, though, wasn't it? My favorite so far isn't the funniest, but to me, the most profound:

"Don't Believe Everything You Think"

I might have to add that one to my signature. ;)
