I just finished watching the 48 hours special, and this girl is dangerous and scary.

Dangerous and scary. Evil. Sick.

Does the jail provide eyeglasses if the prisoner needs them?

Yes and she went to the eye dr back in sept I believe. They have a limited number of frames to choose from also.

So...how many witnesses do you think the defense actually has? I wonder if Violene (aka Alyce LaViolette) is on for tomorrow?

I'm sure she has a fan site somewhere with a wish list on it for her fans to send her things that she wants. Gag!

You have to wonder about anyone who claims self-defense because they were attacked and yet they feared this person because they were abusive but you are standing in his bathroom taking pictures you claim he would not like you to be taking and in the last few pictures he is sitting down on the shower floor which to me looks submissive and you expect us all to buy that. So you took a camera, a knife and a gun into the bathroom with you. Because if you took the camera, and obviously you did, and did not remove a knife and gun conveniently lying on the counter but went ahead and took those pictures anyway, knowing he wouldn't like them, what would you think would happen? Does not sound like a battered woman to me. Sounds like someone who is confident in what she is about to do. jmo

Thanks a lot mentioning LaViolette, now I just remembered about Snow White being a battered woman again... so sad :giggle:

Awright, I'm going to go off on a tangent here. Be forewarned, although it is not my intention, this MAY come off to some as being racist and/or biased in some way toward a certain religion. If you think you may be offended, feel free to move along to another post. The opinions expressed below are my own and are not reflective of those of any members of this forum.

I'm going to make some assumptions, some of which may have already been talked about, and reach a POSSIBLE conclusion with which you may or may not agree.

I thought I heard someone say that an interpreter had been called to help one or more jurors understand the proceedings. If this is the case, based on the location of the proceedings, I'm going to assume that this interpreter would be speaking English/Spanish.

If we assume at least one of the jurors is of Hispanic descent and for whom English is not their native language (was it in AZ where a city council person was recently elected who does not speak English?), both attorneys would know this. Thus, I think Mr. Martinez has changed his pronunciation of JA's last name at times to SOUND more Hispanic to "sell" his product to one or more jurors.

Although a stretch, I'm assuming there is at least one person of strong Hispanic heritage on the jury. Give me a little more rope to hang myself with because now I'm going to make another reach. Let's say that this person could have been raised Catholic. Two things we know, 1) Catholicism is the predominant religion in Mexico and 2) there is no death penalty in Mexico.

So, just making generalizations, what does this get us?

PS--I'm currently in Mexico. I have lived here off and on for several years.

You don't sound racist to me. I have wondered why Mr. Martinez pronounces "Arias" in the way he does cos he does not seem to have any kind of accent otherwise. As far as the no death penalty in Mexico, wouldn't the prospective jurors have been asked if they could give the death penalty? If not, wouldn't they have been dismissed?

OT: When my family moved from Tucson, AZ to Marfa, Tx in 1969, I was shocked to find out that the elementary school there had recently become desegragated. Hispanics go to one school, Gringos/white people went to another school. Eye opener for me!

I'm pretty sure that the defense has a bit more on their plate than throwing forum chat ideas into their mix. They have a lot more to worry about at the end of the day than to sit at a computer. I know it's been known that sometimes people come here to read who are on high profile cases, but I have always found it odd to think that this would be a place to come to get ideas. I think they have enough problems with what they have now.

Jose Baez used social media extensively for crafting his defense of Casey Anthony. But I just don't see JA's PDs as having the motivation or the resources to pull that off. :dunno:

ETA: I bet Baez (or his hired hands) spent a LOT of time at Websleuths

Tomorrow night JVM is supposed to interview Jodie's circle of friends.

I can't see Jodi having close friends. Close friends are those with whom you reveal your true intentions and secrets. I'm betting these alleged "close friends" are only people that Jodi worked with at times.

Will her friends be wearing shackles or do they get to take them off for the interview?

Putting this simplistically, how could anyone think this was self-defense? JA is a disgrace to battered women everywhere! How can this Violet whats er name person actually testify that Jodi was abused by Travis and maintain a straight face? I bet ya a dollar that once this woman testifies as to JA's abuse from Travis, she will become a pariah in the eyes of legit people everywhere.

Oh...by the way, that hiding spot where the 9mm was found. That must have been 1 amazing spot to hide the gun since LE did not find it.

From Nancy Grace transcript: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1301/22/ng.01.html

"On July 14th, when Mesa police detectives went to Yreka to arrest Jodi Arias, they found her at her grandparents` house.

They visually surveilled her from outside, and they could see inside that she was packing boxes and packing suitcases. They believed she was going to flee. They stayed there watching her. In time (ph) of that night, of July 14th, a car pulled up. She came outside to talk to a female person in the driver`s seat. They believe that was her mother. It was a lengthy conversation. It ended with Jodi going back into her grandparents` house, her mother driving off.

The next day, they found a brand-new shiny rental car outside of the grandparents` house. They subsequently arrested Jodi, executed a search warrant, and found in that rental car boxes of books of Jodi Arias`s. Intermingled amongst the books were two knives. In her suitcase was a box of .9-millimeter bullets, no gun.

Less than a month later, her mother was inquiring where the gun was that Jodi had hidden in the rental car. They traced the rental car at that point to San Francisco, California, and they found hidden in that car a .9- millimeter gun."

This sl-t will try to destroy TA's reputation and (even though I could care less about the mormon church), she was/is making mockery about them also. She really is evil; she really deserves to die. I just wish her death could be as horrible as Travis' was. God bless Travis, his family and friends.

I love tangents and I love posts that begin with forewarnings so I was pretty excited to read this. I wasn't offended in the least by what you said especially compared to some other posts today so that's a bummer.

I remember reading about the translator in court minutes during voir dire but I can't recall if the jurors who may have required the translator were selected in the final group. I'll have to recheck later on.

Just found this in the mess that is my Favorite Places of Websites:

http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/12/20/jodi-arias-travis-alexander-murder-trial-jury-selected-sworn

The jury appears to be all white except for one Hispanic male.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez argued that race and sex had nothing to do with striking the jurors. He cited a couple of women who had previous domestic violence incidents, one female who said she needed to be “100% sure that a person was guilty," an African-American woman who said she thinks the death penalty is akin to murder, and another woman is married to a preacher.
