Based on what I heard/watched, I think that's exactly what happened. And Chris was looking for more of the thread history to put that exchange in "context." Nurmi definitely said that Martinez objected to the Travis part of the e-mail (obviously when they approached), yet a minute later insisted that it be read.

Ok reading the email from TA and "wanting it in" or on record are two different things right? Otherwise why would the PA say he was not objecting to CH "reading" TA's email.

I was so clear on this now you guys are making me doubt what I saw and heard.

I agree with you. However the poster said "whatever e-mail", even one where he says TA is being abusive, doesn't matter. From that, the discussion moved beyond the singular e-mail that we're referencing and on to any e-mail, including one where he "goes on all day long" about how abusive TA is.

Ok. I kind of get it. But I think you may be nit picking a bit? Because "whatever" e-mail from CH that gives his opinion, even if he goes on all day about how abusive Travis was, is NOT evidence that Travis was abusive. If he discussed actually witnessing abuse, that would be different.

My impression is that it was decided by the judge, I don't think it had anything to do with whether the Defense wanted them too or not. JMO Right before he was given the email to read, the attornies had approached, I believe to discuss the emails. JMO

It was decided by the judge when they approached. The defense offered the exhibit, including Travis's e-mail and Chris's reply. The State objected to the Travis portion and the court, apparently, sustained. Then, when the witness wanted "context," the State changed its mind and Nurmi mentioned that on the record. Chris still wasn't satisfied with what he had before him and wanted the entire e-mail thread, not just Travis's e-mail that he responded to by saying the Travis was treating Jodi badly in some way.

I guess I'm not quite understanding the difference.

Would talking about how Travis needs to stop abusing Jodi not impeach the notion that Travis never abused Jodi?

I guess my question is - why would he be telling Alexander to stop abusing Arias if he never witnessed any of it? And again, this is beyond that one singular e-mail and on to any e-mail in the realm of possibility.

I would assume the lesson here is not to speak in absolutes, lest it be taken the wrong way.

This email that is being discussed is between CH and TA? How did the defense get it? Was it from JA breaking into TA's account? If so, how can it be permissible in court if it was obtained illegally?

Maybe Detective Flores asked Jodi for the password to Travis' email account.

Or, they could have retrieved them from Travis' laptop.

Or, through the email provider themselves.

Or, maybe they got it from Chris.

I really have a feeling that Chris may have said it was 'unhealthy' in those emails. Which does not mean abusive. JMO Although, the Prosecution really did not want those emails read in open court, did they? Maybe it was the wording that Chris used in the emails would leave it open to interpretation.

Except that Jodi had NO injuries to herself other than a cut on one or two of the creases of her fingers on her left hand that a bandaid covered. Travis couldn't have inflicted her ONLY injury with his hands.

ah no. Not likely....and from the evidence shown (car for one thing) it isn't likely that he had an exteremely short fuse. She didn't snap, she plotted and not just killed but brtualized him.
