Mr Mormon Attorney... Can I ask, if the Mormon religion has an OFFICIAL stance on death penalty? If you don't want to discuss this I undersatnd. Thanks

I will have to do some research on the official stance. I know many Mormons are for the death penalty (in appropriate cases) and I know many are against. I am not aware of what the official statement of the church will be - I will look. But, I know that the church has never told us to be against the death penalty in general. I will try to find more...good question.

I found this and shared yesterday when this question came up:

According to http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/ldsnew...tal-punishment

they believe :

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regards the question of whether and in what circumstances the state should impose capital punishment as a matter to be decided solely by the prescribed processes of civil law. We neither promote nor oppose capital punishment.

I suppose they are like any other faith... some of them are for it, some are not.

Ten or fifteen POUNDS of grooming supplies and hand sanitizers?? This story is bizarre.

And that's for 2 whole days. The way he paused and tapped his fingers (as if counting) told me he was telling a fib. Unless there was a 10 pound tube of KY in there that he didn't want to mention.

This guy is a liar-or he has a very poor memory of what he said yesterday!

Nice. Martinez got the witness to admit it was his intrusion that precipitated the argument between Jodi and Travis...wonder what he found that he isn't admitting to?

Industrial sized vat of KY Jelly perhaps? *whistles innnocently here*

ETA: Everyone beat me to it!

Remembers they did have a "squawk" but doesn't remember anything.

Why do bro and sis keep remembering only implications?

Daniel seems nosy enough he would've listened in to these uncomfortable fights.

Interesting that it was this guy who kept inviting Jodi over AFTER TA broke up with her.

Just to add a little of my own Mormon perspective, and it's just my own, but it appears to me that this guy viewed JA as a helpless little bird who was new to the gospel and that she just needed love and friendship to straighten out her life. He may believe if TA just lived his standards, JA would have a chance to reform.

In some cases, it is disappointing to see a Mormon youth compromise his standards, especially with someone he baptized. Instead of seeing them both straighten out their lives, you see them both choose another way. I can see that and I think that may be where this witness may be coming from - disappointed in Travis because he "knew better."

What this young man does not understand is that JA is a very complex personality and that there are likely serious psychological issues. She has already been proven to be a very good - scary good - liar. She can play someone like this so easily - someone who feels sorry for her who wants to "save" her. I would guess he still believes that she can reform if just given the chance.

This is so over his head. He is lucky he wasn't taken in this too. He just doesn't realize it.

From a non-professional/layperson perspective, I can't recall ever seeing a prosecutor do such a masterful job of turning defense witnesses into his own.

He just effortlessly flips testimony in his favor. I'm really in awe.
