But why clear the courtroom to do this? Is the jury still in there or were they sent out as well?

Utmost of caution. I don't think the jury ever came into the courtroom after lunch. Whatever this new evidence is, the judge doesn't want it out there in front of the general public. (Providing that the new evidence tweet was accurate). The poor jury has been sitting in their room for over 45 minutes now. I certainly hope they are given some type of explanation while they are kept waiting day after day. I would be steaming as I think constant tardiness is disrespectful.

In light of recent news that the defense asked for a stay (a delay - meaning that they need more time), I don't see them putting Jodi on the stand today when they could get three more days by waiting until Monday.

Edit: Unless, of course, they don't have anyone else. They started out weak and may have run out of options already.

that makes sense. They probably have to crop them down to what they are allowed to play at all.

Haven't they had several years to do this?

Hi everybody! I am just now able to check in - anything happen this morning that I need to know about?:seeya:

Yes! Someone dusted their door handles, another watched her oven heat up, I watched my toe nails grow. We all kept pretty busy!
Oh yeah! The defense filed for a stay, some guy from yesterday got back on the stand, Gus was boring, accomplished nothing for the defense.
Probably more but I took a nap.

That's not the way things work. "Life" or the "DP" are sentences, which are doled out by the judge after the verdict from the jurors. Defendants plea to the charge, which would be first degree murder, second degree murder, manslaughter, etc. Pleading guilty to anything less than first degree murder would have avoided the possibility of the Death Penalty (DP). Jodi has apparently been trying to plead guilty to a lesser charge, but the DA has refused. If she was forthcoming and truthful with Det. Flores from the beginning of the investigation, she would not be facing the DP.

I always thought LE telling the suspect that it will go easy on you if they fess up was just a ploy to get the person to talk. The crime and how it was committed still remains the same. I know LE can lie in interrogations and that was what I thought. But if Jodi would not be facing the DP if she was truthful makes it sound like justice is vindictive. JMO

http://www.azfamily.com/news/Jodi-Arias-trial-Victim-portrayed-as-liar-and-cheat-189210231.html

Alexander's religion and sex life have been a constant theme throughout the trial. Some friends and family members, including Daidone, believed him to be a devout Mormon who was saving sex for marriage, while he simultaneously dated and had sex with multiple women.

I was always under the impression that he was only having sex with Jodi.

Was he sleeping with multiple women?

I sure dont understand where they got that from. It certainly hasnt been in the trial. Are they going to have women that said they were having sex with Travis at the time he was with Jodi?

Lisa nor Mimi had sex with Travis.

IMO

FYI I saw Nurmi walk in this am with a large brown paper wrapped something that to me looked like a piece of evidence

So during Lisa's testimony there was some talk about TA having some sort of financial difficulties? Anyone know anything about that, out of curiosity?

I know that no one believes anything that Jodi said but didnt she also say that he borrowed 6000 bucks from someone?

I guess financial problems really dont fit into this case at all unless you wanna reach and say that it shows that what was really going on isnt the same as what he claimed was

Thanks, I have never been there and I had no idea what they were saying or how to spell it.

No problem, I've down there a few times so the misspelling was driving me crazy :-)

If you ever get the chance to go you should, it is gorgeous! It is a 10 mile hike in(although there are helicopter rides to the village 8 mi in, still 2 mi from the campground) - when they mentioned going through her backpack - that is common with experienced vs new backpackers - you carry everything on your back(sleeping bag, clothes, tent/hammock, food) so you need to be careful with what you pack or you will be lagging under the weight. Many inexperienced backpackers pack too much.

Wouldn't the sex tapes have already been reviewed prior to this?

I would assume so since they were mentioned in the opening statement by the DT.

No jury. Basically it would be the equivalent to an in camera inspection of whatever it is so she can make a ruling about the evidence without the jury being exposed to it and the arguments about its admissibility. That's what this sounds like to me anyway.

Why clear the courtroom? Couldn't they do this in camera?

Only the defense would be trying to introduce 'new' evidence right now, correct?

I think so, since they are presenting their case now. Unless the prosecution just sought to amend their evidence list. But I can;t be sure. Criminal trials are not my thing.

O/t. 40 car pile up in Indiana?

Oh man. I hope no one is too badly hurt.

@michaelbkiefer
Rumor has it that the defense has new evidence it needs to discuss. That doesn't usually take place in a sealed courtroom, however.

This is my friend mike Kiefer. He's covering he trial for the paper. This is the issue Beth had yesterday- all the closed door stuff
