The Suburban memorial site is up for sale. **UPDATE SOLD** OR NOT?

The neighbourhood Homeowners Association announced they are against the idea of a memorial to Caylee on that land. Can they block the sale of the land or the use of it as a memorial? If they can, that would affect the sale.

I think it all depends on the Zoning laws in that County

If enough of the Home owners in the area got together they could file suit to block the building of a park or memorial & if they did this before the land was sold then I'm sure it would hold up the sale.

After all, Why would anyone buy the land if they knew that there was a court battle waiting for them?

Thank you kindly for your answer, Boston. We don't have HOA where I live( unless they are made up of coyotes, moose and squirrels. LOL!) I have no idea how much power they have.

why would the owner take a loss? if anything, i would think the now very well-known property would be worth more than it was. whether we agree with it or not, there are people out there who would pay a lot of money to own this spot as part of their 'collection'.

There's no way. The realtor said it is not getting offers. With the real estate market how it is right now too, he will not get this for fair market value. I'll be surprised if he gets half of his asking, unless Leonard really does buy it and pays full asking just out of the goodness of his heart. I don't know.

You know, though, I actually thought Leonard wanting to buy the property was a good idea to make it a park or whatever. However, I then heard MarK Klass say how he despises the piece of property where is daughter, Polly was found. He only went there once, I think is what he said and he wish it didn't even exist.

So, I now have to say, I agree with him. Just let it go back to nature, the way it was and leave it be. I don't have much sympathy for the Anthony's but I certainly wouldn't want to drive by that piece of property every day and it being a park and knowing MY grand daughter was thrown there like trash1 It just doesn't seem like somewhere I would want people to be enjoying themselves. It seems wrong now that I listened to him. My heart just breaks for him everytime he talks about Polly. I can not even imagine the pain. And I doubt ANY time heals THAT kind of loss.

How about the land is bought or donated and a permanent Memorial to Caylee, perhaps a park with benches, or a garden- provided the land is cleared of swamps and snakes as a tribute to Caylee, whose life was too short?????

That is what he is proposing. I would like to see it as a day care, since it is so close to the school, so kids can have a safe place to stay.

Caylee was not killed there. They should bull doze down the Anthony's house and burn it because that is evidently where the baby was killed.

Which brings me back to what I have said from the beginning of this case, GEORGE IS A LIAR.............and not to be trusted in this.

I'm sure you guys have seen this already, but Georgie boy is plainly caught lying when he said the last time he saw Caylee was the day after Father's Day, June 16th at 1pm?

Regardless of who buys that piece of property I seriously doubt the CA will ALLOW anyone to use Caylee's name in any way, shape or form. I imagine even if there was a small plaque that had Caylee's name on it she would raise all kind of stink about it, and probably sue whoever owned the property or was trying to place a memorial to Caylee there.

You can't trademark a name. They might not be able to use her last name, but there is nothing she can do about her first name.

Yes, leave it as nature. No changes. And I certainly would never want to be anywhere remotely close to the A's either.

I couldn't and wouldn't take my child to play in an area where any child's dead body was found. Too morbid. I think LP should stay out of it or just buy it and leave it alone as it is.

A location like that is not a happy peaceful place to remember a beautiful child as Caylee.

I agree with others that the land should be left alone and not bought. The area is really disgraceful IMO since no one searched so very close to home the week or two before the storm hit or after the storm even with Kronk calling in tips. Caylee's murderer may get a lesser sentence because of that little oversight. Let the land alone until it someday sells to build a home there since it is a residential neighborhood. Those neighbors and school children don't need some memorial with all sorts of silly people making pilgrimages and taking pics.

if i'm wrong then please, please someone correct me, but isn't the site in question on the same route that the children take to school?
i like LP and would be glad of any dignified memorial to caylee that he might be kind enough to supply, but i don't want the little ones reminded each time they pass by this spot that a baby girl was murdered by her mother and then her body lay for months in this place which they must pass constantly throughout their young lives in order to get to school.
i'm not sure i've properly expressed quite how deeply the idea of this troubles me.

I would like to see it not as a park or where people go to visit, but see it cleaned up, beautiful flowers planted, and have it be a "pretty place" for the children to simply view not fear on their way to school every day. It beats the dark, desolate area it is for hiding bodies and would be safer for everyone around the area. There should be no memorial on the site and no mention of Caylee. (Maybe the City of Orlando should consider taking this plot of land and maintain it.)

I can see the opposition to a "memorial" so to speak. I don't think it needs to become a "memorial" dedicated to Caylee. I do think something needs to be done with it and not let it go "back to nature" which means overgrowth, weeds, swamp, snakes, spiders and trash and more trash.

I agree with Turbothink. If anything should be bulldozed, it should be the Anthony house where the murder most likely took place.

If nothing is done to the land then it will return to the dark murky swamp it was and will be a local scary spot for the kids to be afraid of.

This is so true except that Mark didn't kill his child. She had a loving family and was ripped out of their lives.
Caylee really had nobody. I don't feel like it is the same thang. I would feel good to know there was a place where mothers or daddys could take their babies to. I bet there would be plenty of peeps in that area who would go let their kids go there.

I hope Lenny or someone does buy it and put up a playground or park or something that kids could enjoy. It doesn't have to be a shrine to Caylee. That stigma will stick with that location no matter what is done with the lot. I would like to see that stigma countered by something kid friendly and fun.

As far as the logistics of building on that lot. I'm sure the rest of the lots on that block were about the same way before they were developed. It would be a task but I'm sure it could be done very easily. The water run off retention pond has already been put in.

It seems that if LP (or anyone) bought it with the intent of converting it to a playground, memorial or park, there would be obstacles and consequences. It would be an attraction for locals and tourist visitors to Orlando. There is the obvious problem of it being a regularly flooded bottomland swamp. It would need to be significantly elevated above the surrounding undeveloped area. There is also the issue with public access. There is no sidewalk on that side of Suburban, and no available parking. What would be the legalities and insurance concerns of a "public attraction site" that is on private property? Who would manage and maintain it? Where would the money for all of that come from?

I totally agree with you Tracy. At first I thought, yeah, memorial, a great idea. Some distinct place, maintained, where people can go and visit; leave notes; leave stuffed animals that hopefully would then be put to good use.

But, yes, there's always a but...I watched Nancy Grace, and heard not just Mark but also Nancy, talking about the places where their loved ones last were. I saw the pain in Mark's face. Heard the pain in Nancy's voice. And almost instantly, my mind was changed. My heart broke for both of them. Although I hate it for the property owner, I think back to nature is the best option for the property.

I heard Lenny say he wanted to purchase it and ultimately donate it to the county. Well, Mr. Property Owner, if you read here, I have a suggestion ... Cancel the listing. Let the property begin to "heal" back to its natural state and then YOU, Mr. Property Owner, could donate it to the county and, perhaps, take a nice little tax write off? I don't know about the tax write off thing, but it seems like there should be some type of tax benefits available to you.

Very good points, Hot Dogs. I just would hate to see it go back to garbage filled swamp. So even if someone bought it, filled it and planted a field of grasses, it would be better than letting it go back to swamp.

I'm a naturalist, so I like the idea of that area remaining semi-wild and undeveloped. But progress and expansion will probably eventually take all of that as homes. My personal feeling is that the best kind of memorial for Caylee would be in people's hearts, not as physical property or totem of any sort.

I think that depends on who buys it and for what purpose. I'd assume, depending on the housing market, that if a developer buys it and turned it into multiple lots to build houses, he'd make a profit.

but what Im wondering is did the seller jack up the fair market price because caylee was found there and he must have had an idea someone might want to put a memorial up there? or is it at fair market price?
