I just found this oregonian article that states that Kyron was supposed to be part of the talent show:

So, although Kyron was supposed to be in this talent show, and Kyron was excited about school and would talk about all his events, and although Kaine and Kyron talked about the science fair that morning, Kaine and Kyron didn't talk about this talent show that morning.

And when Kaine got home about 2, he just got something to eat and went upstairs to his office, and Terri was sitting in the chair on the laptop, and he didn't ask her why she wasn't at school for the talent show, and she didn't say anything about the missed talent show, and everything was normal.

And Terri emailed Desiree about the science fair project, but neither woman mentioned the talent show.

I'm just trying to absorb and understand all this. Absorb and understand, BeanE.

But I'm amazed--when a school friend said that he had seen Kyron *after* TH said she left him, that report was blown off, as near as I can tell, by LE. And I've seen so many saying that well, he's just a kid, he probably got confused. From the get-go, his story has been discounted.

Now suddenly, supposedly, some child said something that's leading to assumptions that it proves TH's guilt, and all of a sudden a young child's testimony is both believable *and* important. Same school, same group of kids, same age group, but this one is reliable evidence. Vs. the other one.

Makes it more interesting to find out when Terrie emailed the teacher about picking up the project. If Kyron was to be there & Terri email earlier it would further show...he was absent for the day, no? That always struck me as odd...as I would ask that day or another parent.

Why would the school wonder where Kyron was? Theoretically, he was at a doctor's appt. Sometimes those take longer than expected.

I am a teacher. If a parent tells me that s/he is leaving with the child, I don't question what they are doing all day.

I may wonder, but the child is the parent's child, not mine.

I was a teacher too. If we had something special planned, and a kid was going to miss it, I might bring it to the parent's attention. "Oh what a shame! He'll miss the Valentine's Day party! We'll have to save his party favors for Monday." or whatever. Give them the chance to change the appt.

And if I had a kid who was part of an act in a talent show, and he was absent, I would sure do a little more checking than "I thought he was at an appointment." I'd see if he was signed out and if Mom mentioned to anyone whether or not he was going to return. Might even email or call to remind her about it so the other kids in the act wouldn't be disappointed.

That's why I think it was a large group thing. If he were going to let other kids down by not being there, I think the teacher would have followed up or been more concerned at 10 when he wasn't there.

our elementary school does a talent show during school hours for the kids at school and what ever parents wish to attend, then later that night for working parents and families....in order to participate in the talent show....a permission slip has to be signed by parent or gaurdian......

But why didn't Kyron say anything to Kaine about the talent show all that week?

I haven't had any children at home for years, so I don't know the answer to that one.

I think sometimes the parents are the ones that make a huge deal out of something.

I was never able to go to my children's programs at school because I had to do my classroom's program. I was never a big fan of the Christmas programs where the child was one of many on the stage. I always had children do things in smaller groups, so at least they would stand out from the herd.

It would helpful to know if he was one of many, or if he was in a smaller group that would be more interesting to him.

I don't think Kyron told anyone about this talent show, as Bean outlined above, no one seemed to know about it. Maybe he did not want to take part and did not want an audience. Terri may not even have known, if she wasn't paying attention and they were focused on the science project all week.

Agree + another point to think about...

Perhaps (MOO speculation) TH told KY he would not be in the talent show because that was the day of his supposed MD appointment.

Then, especially if he was going to be in a group presentation with no absolute reliance on his being there, did not want to take part, etc. he just might have shrugged it off and not even mentioned it to classmates, KH, or DY.

This still seems "risky" if planned in advance, and I know I'm not thinking it all through in a thorough manner right this minute, so please post logical holes in my speculation.

Also, wanted to mention that the mom of the classmate WAS present at the 300 Balloon Event Saturday and was interviewed briefly just about her son missing Ky. I will find link -- not sure which local channel(s) where she was shown. She will be shown on the Channel 6 link from tonight's 6 pm news when that's up and running. That's how I knew who she was -- from seeing her yesterday.

I wonder if the teachers didn't make more of the so-called appointment once they learned Kyron was missing and not "absent?" Generally a doctor's appointment does not take the whole day, does it?

But I do find it possible that Kyron never talked about the talent show if he was dreading it. And it may have been just for other students, guess we will have to wait and see.

I think I remember Kaine being interviewed and he stated that he didn't know about the talent show or that he wasn't sure about Kyron having to perform at a talent show that day. I'll try and find the link. I don't think Kaine knew about it although he knew about the science fair.

I remember this as well. I also remember at a LATER PC, the talent show was brought up again, and this time KH and DY looked at each other and DY seemed to chuckle a little...as if they both knew that IF this talent show was not a figment of TH's imagination, it had significance to the case. At least that is how I read it at the time. God knows I couldn't find a link to this if my life depended on it...but I will look. :angel:

Kyron is a shy kid... wouldn't someone have known if he was dreading the performance, or if he was uncharacteristically excited or even just blase about it? I mean Kyron didn't know he was about to go missing, so he would have thought he was still attending the TS...

Huh, you know I just get the feeling that if Terri is guilty, she expected the school to notice his absence and contact her during the day. Maybe she didn't think she'd need an entire day of alibi, but just the trips to the grocery store, during which time she'd receive "the call" from Skyline and spring into concerned parent mode.

Maybe she never considered the entire day passing with no one noticing his absence, the talent show, etc.

This is really confusing.

Kyron's parents addressed accounts that he was scheduled to perform in a talent show the day he disappeared, saying they didn't know it beforehand. I'm sorry, I have to ask - why would anyone ever need to drag in a 9 year old to testify in front of a grand jury about Kyron's planned participation in the talent show at school? It's unnecessary. The teachers can do that.

If this is true about a 9 year old @ the grand jury - then I have to think there is more substance to the testimony than talent show chit chat... and I wonder what it could be.

That's the problem I have with this. I can't believe that Kyron mentioned the science fair and not the talent show to Kaine. I could see Kyron saying he didn't want to be in it or asking them not to come, but not to mention it all, I have a hard time with that.

I hear you -- and...
it just seems somehow to me that Ky was so excited about his frog project and was so focused on that that the talent show info just fell by the wayside, especially if he had been told (speculation only - per my last post here) that he would possibly still be at the much debated MD appointment.

My impression of Ky is that he was much more interested in things like frogs than things like performing -- whether with a group or especially alone.

When my kids were young, my ex-husband was clueless about a lot of stuff and I'll admit, it drove me crazy. However, both of my kids would have definitely told him about a talent show and he would have been there somehow. I could see a 7 yr old saying he didn't want to be in it and making a big deal about it but deep down he would want his parents there. I just don't see a child that age being silent on it.

Apparently the school did not find it odd that Kyron missed the talent show, which makes me think it was more of a group sort of skit or song, etc.

Let's not jump to that conclusion yet. They just called in this one child, so it might have been part of a larger skit that the two of them were supposed to do something separately.

Let's please not spread anymore rumors for people to run with - I'm getting a little weary of it. We don't know what kind of skit it was.

I do find it interesting that all the emphasis in the family was put on the science fair and not the talent show. Maybe because one was for a grade while the other was just for entertainment?

I know lots of parents who skip things like this, unfortunately. It's all too common.

This is really confusing.

ITA with this post. If she is guilty, then she could never have imagined that the school could go this long without noticing his absence. And honestly, if all of this is true, then they really need to examine their security on a lot of levels. (Actually, they need to regardless of who the perp is.)

I'm not so certain he did testify to that info.. seems as if mom/media report made it appear mom knew GJ testimony was secret, and what she told media was not r/t what her son actually testified about.
I need to watch that clip again to get a better feel, it was quite brief.
