The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell

An open letter to Susan Boyle
I want to thank you. To thank you for all the unsung and unrecognized heroes in this world. I want to thank you for everyone who has ever had that independent spirit unappreciated by the masses of sheep that pass for people. Your honesty in character, your delightful outlook on life and that “cheeky grin” should inspire us all to greater aspects in ourselves. May you always have that smile inside your cheek and the wonderful blessing of knowing exactly who you are.
Single-handedly you have brought millions to tears, perhaps even more to their knees in thanks to the Lord for such a gift. You have shown that a dream, despite your awe inspiring song, doesn’t have to die. Just as importantly, you have shown that a talent can be in anyone of us, if we just have the courage to showcase it.
I want to thank you for sharing the gift of your voice, a true instrument in your hands,
I want to thank you for sharing your joy in life and your incomparable panache.
As one of the judges in the TV show said “It was a complete privilege listening to that”,
It was also one of the joys of my lifetime. And I thank you for that. Mazel Tov

Don't have the URL on hand but did you read of the squabbling going on over youtube's policy of prohibiting the running of paid advertisements on videos posted to their site?

Whomever it is that owns BGT (?) is claiming that youtube's policy is unreasonable. And that an est 1.3/1.8 million lbs/dollars could have been made on Susan Boyle's video alone!

On the makeover issue: I'm really glad that someone has been discovered for her talent despite her looks and it's refreshing to see her get some fame and overshadow these idiot pop tarts who have less talent and are famous for being scandalous tramps!

On the other hand, now that the world finally knows how talented she is, I vote for a makeover!!!! She's my age. Good grief, she could look so much younger and it would do so much for her own self esteem. I don't think looks should be all that matter, but she could have a second lease on life. Her voice is amazing and nobody cares what she looks like so I want her to transform into a swan!

Thank you angela:)

She looks fabulous. I don't care what she does with herself, I just want it to be what "she wants" and not some advice from someone that wants her to change so they can make money off her.

I have to admit though, she looks her age now, before with her very grey hair it made her appear older. Nothing wrong with that, but her return to what I would assume is her natural hair color from her youth, shows off her cream complexion. If this is what she wants, fine :)

Whatever you wear~ however you look~ Susan, your voice is that of an angels!

I must say, that after almost two weeks of watching this video a number of times, it still brings tears to my eyes each time. I have something to say about this and Ms. Boyle and BGT.

I saw on AOL the other day where they were taking a pole or some such thing and there's all sorts of conspiracy theory type things going out that this episode was staged by Simon et al. That is not true, IMHO.

A week or so ago I viewed online an interview with Simon where he was questioned about this episode. He stated that this video was actually filmed in January and he feels that this was one of the greater moments of television. He said he WAS completely surprised by Susan's performance. He went on to say that it had been a very long day and all the judges were very tired and stressed,........but then came Susan! (of course this is all in his own words, but you get the gist)

IMHO, everything most likely happened just as shown on youtube. OF COURSE they spliced various film shots from a number of videos being taken simultaneously to get the desired effect. I believe this was all as it happened, from the judge's reactions, the audience reactions, Susan's performance, all spliced together to get one of the most dramatic and satisfying videos ever to show on youtube.

I'm also pleased that Susan has now decided to take a make-over. Seriously....she's not over-doing it, just enough to make herself appear more finished, more suited to accept and ride with the flow, of her new found fame.

At the end of the day, what a gift! I'm so happy that Susan Boyle has FINALLY been discovered and the world will now have the privilege of listening to her beautiful voice.

Go Susan!

:)

I do have to say, she looks absolutely radiant! This goes to show you don't need to change drastically to improve your appearance. Whomever helped to give her an updated look did a fantastic job. They were able to work off of Susan's strong points, including her beautiful personality! Here's the full length picture - wow ... amazing! You go girl!

...and I'm listening to her singing again...when she comes out with a new cd, I can just about guarantee it'll be a steady staple in my many car rides!

I just saw a clip of her on the today show. They had a very short clip of her singing for her family at age 12. That voice was there at age 12. Crisp, clear and magnificent.

I'll look later and see if I can find the clip uploaded somewhere.

What amazes me about Ms. Boyle is not just that she has a voice (which she certainly has!), but that her phrasing and expression are so exquisite!

I must extend my apologies. I was listening to the Today show from the kitchen while making breakfast for my youngest child. I mistook another discussion of a child aged 12 for Susan. Again I apologize for the erroneous post earlier this morning.

Here is Susan singing at age 25 for her parents anniversary.

Susan's brother Gerry said "It was a very emotional night. It goes quiet when Susan sings, it always does. She always has that effect."

And thank goodness she's gotten her eyebrows waxed! Noone said she had to look like Brittney Spears, but now she can sing on tour and not look dowdy or frumpy! Go Susan Go! You look great now!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Thank you Jersey Girl for that lovely picture....I like this look! She looks smart and updated and nothing has drastically changed.

She has perfect pitch! That really struck me when I first heard her.

People don't usually just come out of their house and sing like Julie Andrews lol.

Painful to watch. But Susan handles it with grace. Clip is from 1995.

Britain's Got Talent may have been Susan Boyle's big break, but it wasn't her first foray into the reality-contest genre. Back in 1995, she auditioned for the Star Search-ish My Kind of People. Host Michael Barrymore wasn't as impressed as Simon et al:

O/T but Susan, if I had a voice like yours sweetheart, all those people could call me dowdy (while looking at my own dowdy behind) while I walked to the bank to deposit my cash and they could even take a longer gander when I stopped to sign autographs as I'm sure you will be doing soon! God Speed Sweetheart!

Simon Cowell and Susan Boyle visit Oprah Winfrey
Los Angeles Times, May 8 2009
America's favorite everywoman, Susan Boyle, will also appear. Boyle will allow Oprah's cameras to poke around her Scotland digs for the special eppy. Sounds like an episode of "Cribs." But, ya know, minus the Cristol-stocked fridge and spinning rims.

[...]

“I am tired now of hearing about the way she looks or the kissing or this or that," Cowell told ET. "Get yourself together, sweetheart, for the big one, which is the semifinals [of 'Britain’s Got Talent']. Chose the right song. Focus yourself. Shut your front door and maybe take a holiday and come back as the person you want to be, not the person you think you should be.”

Susan Boyle turns down the US President
May 10, 2009

Susan hit the headlines earlier this week when it was revealed that she was banned from singing in front of an audience of millions by Simon Cowell.

[...]

The music mogul does not want Boyle to sing ahead of the semi-finals of the contest and is reportedly concerned that she might gain an unfair advantage over the other competitors if she were allowed to perform on the US show.
