The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell

Oh, you could tell huh? I think I have EVERY Andrew Lloyd Webber musical CD made...LOL If you ever see a crazy lady driving down I-10 singing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" at the top her lungs, just wave cause it will most likely be me..he-he! I'm still waiting for Michael Ball to fall in Love with me..What a Hunk! On my "MYSPACE" page I tell Sir Andrew he should put him in ALL his musicals! THANKS for the info on Joseph and the Amazing Tech Dreamcoat..I will definitely watch..Think they will do Starlight Express next? (Please, Please!)

LOL..My MySpace is even dedicated to Michael Ball..Check it out:

www.myspace.com/paysonsgrandma

I have to admit I have several of Ball's CDs, but I don't remember being blown away. Of course, I didn't see him in a show and there are a lot of albums out with the same numbers (see John Barrowman, for example). I shall have to give them another listen.

Do you recommend any musical theater in your area? (It's pretty grim out here in the desert, though you should see The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, if you've never gone.)

For what it's worth, my husband was the assistant casting director for Evita on Broadway and on tour in the early 1980s. And I had close friends in Starlight in New York and Phantom in L.A. I'll try to ask around and see if anyone has any good ALW stories for you...

(ETA Thanks for the referral to your myspace page, which I enjoyed. You have a great ability (in English and in Spanish) to described yourself in brief, but interesting ways.)

"I Don't Know How to Love Him" would be great - as well as songs from Evita

Actually I love the old musical songs, like from Camelot and the Sound of Music

I think Climb Every Mountain is a very dynamic song for her voice. Man of LaMancha has some great ones. "To Dream the Impossible Dream...." YES!!!! and Dulcenea is nice.

What about "Somewhere Out There?" Well, there are so many great songs; I'm sure she'll find the right one.

Does she have to sing a recent or popular song, or can it be free choice?

Dear Susan, A torch singer at heart with a wide vocal range. Both songs so far have a combination of a gradual crescendo to a point of power and then dropping to a soft but strong simple melody. Maybe that was Andrew Lloyd Weber's formula in writing great and memorable show tunes. They certainly fit her voice and give the audience the feeling of a circle being completed.

I adore how she sings 'Cry Me A River', better than I have ever heard it sung before:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5ETPG26ALE&feature=related"]YouTube - Susan Boyle sings "Cry Me a River" on a 1999 Charity CD[/ame]

Even tho it's already out there, she'd be up against herself and a performance she gave what, 10 years ago.

I wish she could sing a great song that has not yet been made famous by some celebrity. Maybe one of Mr Weber's songs seldom sung that have great potential to be remembered for her rendition.

I'm going to study his songs this week. But I agree it would be so cool to hear her do a great torch song and go out with a bang. Then she can sing Climb Every Mountain for the Queen! YaYa xox

Great to see you Nova. What an interesting life you have led. I have a feeling your NIK matches what you are perfectly ;}

ETA: After she first sang on BGT and won there were many comments on Youtube, and so many posters there hoped she would sing Memory. In fact it made my jaw drop when she started to sing it. LOL Wonder what they're saying now about the final?

Hmmmm, I see Mr Weber is alive and well in Sydmonton and one of his greatest productions was Sound of Music. Did he ever cast the leading role of Mother Superior? Wouldn't she be perfect in that part!

I wonder what song he would love to hear Susan sing? How exciting.

Just to be clear, Scandi, perhaps we should mention that Webber produced a recent revival of SOM, but he didn't write it. The songs are by Rodgers & Hammerstein. (I know you know this, of course; I mention it for the young 'uns.)

Thank you and ditto and now I'm embarrassed: what does "NIK" mean?

What a GREAT Life you must have had!! (Probably still do in PS) I live in the Glen Avon section of Riverside where the Roosters are crazy and the Horses don't know how to walk on the right side of the road! No Musical Theater here! I took Drama in HS and still a bit of a Drama Queen...LOL My mind races at night and meds don't work but I can put on Sir Andrew's music and I sleep like a baby! When Michael Ball sings "No more talk of darkness, forget those wide eyed fears, I'm here nothing can harm you"...I Believe him..:)

I've spent my life on the outskirts of show business, but whether that has been "GREAT" is too long a discussion for this thread. LOL.

And anyway, right now I'm trying to decide which is worse for your health in the long run: barbituates or Andrew Lloyd Webber!

(In case it doesn't show, I'm a bit of a snob in favor of American musical theater. But it's also true I can sing the entire scores of Evita and Superstar by heart and probably most of Phantom.)

They say that after a nuclear holocaust, only cockroaches will survive. But I wager those roaches will be singing Andrew Lloyd Webber songs!

P.S. to Kat: I responded to your lovely Ethel Merman message in my "visitors message" log. Do I need to do something to make sure you know I responded?

I loved her appearance on the show...that's the type of makeover that didn't take much of anything away from her. She was a tad off-key at first, but truely that's a very very hard song to sing for anyone, and she did just wonderfully. It's unfortunate that a lot of other great acts and singers are getting overshadowed by all the attention to her...it's well-deserved but I guess I just hate that all the other good acts get a tad forgotten.

Nope you just did Nova:) I'll go have a looksee now.

Susan was a little shaky at first but you know she's going to nail it when she gets that smile! Just love her!

OT as not Susan and don't know if this video is posted already but it is so funny. LOL

You're name here 'Nova'. And you're right, I was raised on Rogers & Hammerstein.

I loved her 'Piercey Baby'! I wonder if she got her first kiss?

Seems like our Ms Boyle has caught the eye of Sir Andrew!!

http://www.hellomagazine.com/music/2009/05/15/boyle-lloyd-webber/

Sorry if this link was posted before. I went through the whole thread and didnt see it but I could have missed it. I also saw the Video of Susan singing at her parents 25th Anniversay. "I don't know how to love him" from Jesus Christ Superstar..That would be a GREAT one for her to sing too!

Hello Dolly :)

Thank you. I just read your link and that answers my question about Sir Andrew. If he is thinking to have her step into Eva Peron's role in Evita, wouldn't it be spectacular if she picked a song from that show? I'll have to go listen to the suitcase song. LOLOL

Cats is indeed based on T.S. Eliot's poetry collection, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. But Eliot was dead by the time the show was written, so the director, Trevor Nunn, revised the original poems to meet whatever needs arose in the stage production.

I believe that the "Memory" lyrics, however, are usually attributed mostly to Nunn. It's the one song in the show that doesn't sound like the others and IIRC, though it may be based on ideas that appear in Eliot, Nunn sat down and wrote that entire lyric.

Interesting. I never thought about it, but you're right it's a different type of song than the rest of CATS. To be honest, I preferred Phantom of the Opera to most of CATS.

So Nunn wrote it, but had to give tribute to Eliot.

Thanks for the info - :blowkiss:

I'm with you on Phantom. I just listened to allot of Evita and I don't see the perfect song there. LOL The suitcase song is sad and You Must Love Me is beautiful but since she's never had a great love affair that we know of, she might think it is a bit out of character for her. Maybe I just don't like Madonna, and so many of these Evita songs on Youtube are sung by her.xox

See you all tonight xox

From Piers Morgan's blog:

If you thought she looked thrilled on stage, you should have seen her off it. She was absolutely exploding with excitement, relief and pure, unrestrained joy.

‘You did it!’ I said to her, as I spied her heading up the stairs near the judges’ dressing room area.

‘Oh Piersy!’ she shouted, then skipped down the stairs, jumped on me and kissed me full on the lips for quite some time.

‘I’ve been kissed now!’ she laughed, then she danced another jig, and ran off again.

I’ll be dining out on that for the rest of my life!

Susan’s a fantastically unspoiled, delightfully warm lady, with a wicked sense of humour and a love of life that endears her to everyone. I couldn’t be happier for her that she is now living her dream.

(emphasis added, mine)

Thanks Shadowraiths,

I asked Google what song should Susan Boyle sing for the finals, and look what I found:

Susan Boyle: Send Your Ideas For Her Next Song
VANCOUVER SUN

:)

I agree there is one song I would love to hear her sing that would fit her voice perfectly, 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Carousel:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6V9EbnNx6U&feature=related"]YouTube - You'll Never Walk Alone - R&H's Carousel 1956[/ame]

And then I think 'Come What May' from Moulin Rouge would be a stunner.

I fell in love with Gordon MacRae in Carousel! I always did have a soft spot for the Bad boy (Billy Bigelow)! "You'll never walk alone" is a tearjearker for me!

I'd never heard it but it would be a great song for her voice. You know Susan scats. LOL I keep coming back to 'Cry Me A River' or something on that vein. Sumpin' a 'lil bit saucy! :blowkiss:

I know Queen Elizabeth absolutely loves show tunes so Susan will probably stick to one like you suggest. But the Queen also likes American songwriters so a Rogers & Hammerstein # would be divine xox
