I've been in the hospital for a week and only able to lurk for a couple of days, so I am trying to brush up on what I may have missed!:o
Mfm: I hope you're all better now. Is hospital food as bland as it used to be?

Thanks for the kind words, Sherlock and Annasmom.

Yes, hospital food is still not up to par with fine cuisine.
After a long battle with my body, numerous doctors, God and Father Time, it was decided to remove all means to allow me to have children. Thankfully, everything was benign, so for that, I am grateful. I had experienced so many problems in trying to hold on to conceive, but it just was not meant to be. I am still adjusting to accepting the situation.

Then I remember that there are so many people in the world that have problems so much bigger than mine, such as Annasmom, and that puts everything in perspective.

That is why sites such as Websleuths and people coming together to help each other are so important. We all have to help each other.

I hope I haven't offended anyone with the details of my situation. I apologize if I have done so.

Mfm, I hope your physical and adjustment recovery is a quick one. I am happy to hear everything was benign (wwwg). I can send a couple teenagers your way for the rest of the summer and that will heal your accepting the situation!

I have been back to the very early posting on this forum and picked up that GB was at one time a politician.

I just dug up the political graveyard and found these politicians who were born on Aug 15. Notice some of the names do not have a date of death and probably because either their death was not reported or they changed their name to George Brody.

Berry N. Beaman (1890-1981)
Charles Ben Sherrouse (b. 1891)
Asa S. Bloomer (b. 1891)
B. W. Thomason (b. 1893)
Herman M. Albert (b. 1901)
Joseph W. Byrns, Jr. (1903-1973)
Phil Ferguson (1903-1978)
Albert E. Beech (b. 1904)
Otto Kerner (1908-1976)
Warren M. Huff (b. 1909)
Thomas H. Kuchel (1910-1994)
Thomas E. Sparks (1911-2001)
Samuel C. Adams, Jr. (b. 1920)
Oscar E. Bouwsma (1921-1978)
James F. Smith (b. 1923)

Great idea! It is quite possible that his claim of being a politician was as bogus as the rest of his life story, but it is certainly worth examining.

I know that we drove ourselves looney looking into boxers in the past, but anyone want to cross check these names against fighters in the first half of last century?

Albert Beech may be a person of interest. I don't know how he ended up with the name Bobby.

Albert Edwin Beech (b. 1904) -- also known as Albert E. Beech -- of Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pa. Born in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pa., August 15, 1904. Republican. Merchant; alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from Pennsylvania, 1940; member of Pennsylvania state house of representatives. Presbyterian. Member, Freemasons; Eagles; Elks. Presumed deceased. Burial location unknown.

I realize some feel the boxer we found was not GB. I was surprised to see so many Giordano's in the political field.

Giordano, Carl — of Monroe County, N.Y. American Labor candidate for New York state senate 45th District, 1938. Presumed deceased. Burial location unknown.
Giordano, John C. — of Long Branch, Monmouth County, N.J. Democrat. Delegate to Democratic National Convention from New Jersey, 1932. Presumed deceased. Burial location unknown.
Giordano, Mary — of Warren, Macomb County, Mich. Republican. Delegate to Republican National Convention from Michigan, 1988. Female. Still living as of 1988.
Giordano, Philip — of Manhattan, New York County, N.Y. Republican. Candidate for New York state senate 18th District, 1946. Still living as of 1946.
Giordano, Philip A. (born c.1963) — of Waterbury, New Haven County, Conn. Republican. Mayor of Waterbury, Conn., 1995-2001; candidate for U.S. Senator from Connecticut, 2000. In 2001, he was arrested and charged with sexual assault on two preteen girls; convicted in federal court, in March 2003, of violating their civil rights, and sentenced, in June 2003, to 37 years in prison. Still living as of 2001.
Giordano, Robert — of Brooklyn, Kings County, N.Y. Democrat. Member of New York state assembly from Kings County 23rd District; elected 1940. Still living as of 1940.
Giordano, Rocco — of Rochester, Monroe County, N.Y. Democrat. Alternate delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York, 1940. Still living as of 1940.
Giordano, William J. — of Brooklyn, Kings County, N.Y. Democrat. Member of New York state assembly, 1966-70 (62nd District 1966, 53rd District 1967-70); member of New York state senate 22nd District, 1971-72. Still living as of 1972.

I just had a telephone call from an employee at the U.S. passport office of research and liaison. She said that they had found several "older" passport applications from George Waters and that they would be mailing the information by the end of this week, after it had been reviewed by a supervisor. When I asked if she could tell me anything about the applications over the phone, she said that they simply listed places he planned to travel and certain addresses. This may mean nothing other than his trying to keep a current passport, but it will be interesting to see the material when it comes. One of the positive things about the Missing Pieces radio show is that a text format of the hour-long interview about Anna's disappearance will be available internationally on the Internet. Thank you, all.

Wonderful news Annasmom!! That made this dreary day much brighter. (It's raining in N. CA). Wow, this info may take us into a whole new direction. Is the lady you talked to aware of the case? Did she mention any passport info for Anna? I wonder if she could be influenced to look up GB's name to see if he planned to travel the same places.

Yep, it's raining down here, too. If the lady was aware of the case, she wasn't saying anything. They had told me previously that they could not give me any information on a passport for Anna, not even if she had one. Though she has been missing for such a long time, privacy laws prevent their giving out information about her. I had to send a death certificate for George, along with other documentation, to get this far. It has taken a long time, but at least we'll have that bit done before too long. The thing I find curious is that they found SEVERAL applications, not just renewals. I don't know what that means, but I'm intrigued.

you know how they were parinod the two georges and how they didnt want to leave a paper trail of some sorts and such. well what if they didnt realise that the passport would and didnt think twice about it. Annasmom did george ever travel out of the country when you were together?.this might be the next best lead or not hoping something good comes out of.

He did go out of the county once after we were married, but I don't know about later. I think he had told the passport office not to release information about him, but of course once he had passed on, that couldn't be enforced (I hope--I don't have the information yet.) The thing that puzzles me is why he has more than one passport application.

I had a call today from someone who works with families dealing with mental illness. She had read the recent newspaper story and was deeply affected. She was compassionate and understanding about GW, while agreeing that environmental factors probably contributed to his state of mind, and that he was a victim of his "mentor", who took advantage of him in so many ways.

do you think he had some vacations or trips planned but they fell through beacuse he was under the influance of brody

This is great news Annasmom!

So why couldn't they give you info on any passports for Anna, but they could for George? That surprised me since you are her mother and she was a minor at that time.

Sorry to be a dimwit here, but will someone please repost the info that made you decide GW was not Bobby Wolgast the boxer? It just looked too hopeful not to lead somewhere.

Thanks for your patience of the mentally challenged. it's 2 am and I've been reading this thread since 11.

Great work, by the way!!!!!!!

Lisa, you only became mentally challenged after reading about GW & GB. Just remember it's only temporary. I'll see if I can find it. I think Shadow brought it up.

Received this reply this morning from Chuck at cyberboxingzone:

Re: Looking for info on Bobby Wolgast
Sorry Shadow but I did not know Bobby Wolgast. My late friend Willie O'Neill relayed the stories about Bobby to me. The Phila. VBA # 1 was formed around 1936 and was the first in the U.S. and I imagine Bobby, who was a lifetime resident of Philly, was hanging around since its inception. I am not sure when Bobby died but 1975 seems to be the year that I recall but I may be wrong. I really don't know where his residence was and probably those who knew him personally are now few if any.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. If I find any more info on Bobby I will post it here.
Chuck

If this is true, then I don't think that it is possible that George Brody and Bobby Wolgast (Anthony Giordano) are the same person.
How's this for service...

According to the article of interest about punchdrunkness, he was 27 yrs old in Jan 1933. That should put his birth year 1905.
