They are working on that. They just put two new rigs on our land last month. They have been working all around our county and the one next to it . And no Cal, we can't use that money either. It goes into the family money. Yep, you guessed it! That is where all the family money came from. Everyone in his family has already passed on. I told him that our 5 kids were sure as heck going to spend it when we died.....so he did something to where they can only get so much and the rest is passed down to the next generation. Shoot...I say spend it! LOL :bang:Jeana (DP) said:That's just it Cal, I don't have a problem with people making money and I honestly don't need to struggle, so I'm not jealous and petty. I do have a problem with businesses with no conscience and while we've got kids dying in a war every day and loud mouth idiots thinking we're over there for "oil," companies need to THINK about what this looks like. People were screaming for Bush to free up our oil reserves that we would desperately need should we be involved in an escalated war and this gas company is making more profits than ever before? That's just not right.
I know how you feel. Believe me, they didn't pass any of it down to their employee's salary last year when they had high profits...and they won't do it this year either!Marine Mom said:While gas prices were at their peak, hubby spent $80 to fill up his truck each week. $60 for my car per week. Let's see, should I put gas in my car or food on the table. Of course I did both, but the meals suffered.
How nice for Exxon to make a profit. I feel I helped them.
Cal, I am in total agreement with you. My husband and I work and save and live beneath our means. Yet, we are penalized at every turn. In addition, the "I'm into instant gratification" people in my family resent the h*ll out of us. They refuse to admit that our achievements have come through hard work and sacrifice. They say that we are 'just lucky.'calus_3 said:...I wish...just wish....everyone would lay the class warfare down for just one full generation and teach our kids the American Dream again. Teach them that achievement isn't something to be hated. Rich people (those that earn it honestly not those that steal or deal drugs) is something to be looked up to. That making it shouldn't come with financial penalties...
I just read this post. Man, you and I are definitely on the same page!calus_3 said:...I went out and earned money and bought one. Then I heard all the people tell me how 'lucky' I was. Well, not exactly, remember when you were playing all day after school? I was mowing lawns. It isn't luck, it is hard work and determination on top of wise decisions. If you were able to boil the average rich man's life down and analyze it realistically, there probably is VERY LITTLE LUCK involved.

Before you jump all over Exxon..you had better look at your government! They are the ones putting so much tax on your gas.lynie said:I will NEVER say that making a profit is a sin, no matter what type of company is involved...and yes, I do believe all oil companies will show profits as well...
However, what angers me is that while all of us were sitting in line paying $3.00 per gallon the company line was...it is because of the war...it is because of the hurricane...we don't WANT to charge that much but we cannot help it... and then to be told that there was that much profit despite all of the excuses? Sorry...still stand by my opinion.
Yes, my family still ate, had housing and clothes to wear but it did affect every area of our lives. And those not as fortunate as us it affected even more.
And BTW...I don't know about the school is your area, but my daughter is excelling in the fab business/marketing classes they have in her high school.
Many of her classmates are looking forward to attending college and going out to the great big world to make the almighty dollar. I don't think any of them, their parents or teachers think it is a bad thing...jeez...
It is hard to boycott gas. All the companies charge about the same price where I live. Gas is something that is a little harder to do without than coffee.Jeana (DP) said:Maybe someone with a few years on me can remember this, but didn't Americans boycott coffee back in the 60s or 70s??? Wasn't it because they charged too much? Did the boycott work?

Variations reflect local taxes. Federal excise tax on gasoline is about 19¢ per gallon; state tax averages about 23¢ per gallon; in California there is an additional 7.5% sales tax.

Gas went up in price for only two weeks, then dropped back down. I would say that was pretty fair.lynie said:I am fully aware of how much of my per gallon price goes to taxes...however the taxes did not take a significant jump when the hurricanes came through. The cost increases had to be due to the cost of the fuel by the fuel companies....

Why? To pay the same price at Chevron?Jeana (DP) said:There are different gas companies. Just drive past the one that says "EXXON."![]()
