She also played the Acid Queen in the Ken Russell film version of The Who's Tommy, and named her second solo album for the song from Tommy which she covered.
RIP Tina.

too sad to say much. Saw her several times in concert, she has a special place in my life and heart. Helped me realize that it's ok to be who you are, and to let others be who they are. Thank you Tina.

Sorry to hear this.
Loved her rich, gorgeous voice !

I think Tina was a role model of sorts for some of today's artists, like Rihanna and Beyonce' , to name a few !
She overcame so many hardships.... :(

Rest and sing in heaven, Ms. Turner !

I don't know if Australia is the only place that does the Nutbush Dance? Some sources say that it is (which surprised me).

I think boot scooters (and others) will always do the Nutbush Dance here, it is so popular. You will always rock on forever for us, Tina!

If we are the only place that does this dance to Tina's song, have a squiz at the video in this link to see the biggest gathering of people doing the dance. :)

Tina Turner, Magnetic Singer of Explosive Power, Is Dead at 83

Hailed in the 1960s for her dynamic performances with her first husband, Ike, she became a sensation as a recording artist, often echoing her personal struggles in her songs.

Tina Turner, the earthshaking singer whose rasping vocals, sexual magnetism and explosive energy made her an unforgettable live performer and one of the most successful recording artists of all time, died on Wednesday at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, near Zurich. She was 83.

Her publicist Bernard Doherty announced the death in a statement but did not provide the cause. She had a stroke in recent years and was known to be struggling with a kidney disease and other illnesses.

Ms. Turner embarked on her half-century career in the late 1950s, while still attending high school, when she began singing with Ike Turner and his band, the Kings of Rhythm. At first she was only an occasional performer, but she soon became the group’s star attraction — and Mr. Turner’s wife. With her potent, bluesy voice and her frenetic dancing style, she made an instant impression.

Fantastic!

Many, many moons ago, one of my best pals was a drag show singer/dancer... he did a wonderful "Tina" (and amazingly he taught me (this crazy white gal) some of the best dance moves ;)). Tina Turner, of course, could never truly be duplicated... she was once in a lifetime.

Forever in Peace, Ms. Turner.

Remarkable legend, so very gifted and thank you for sharing your talent with the world. Music is the universal language of love and you showed me exactly that.

I’ve just learned about it by seeing this tweet!

Here‘s another tweet with Tina’s Australia connection

i keep seeing comments about an HBO documentary that shows how important and instrumental Australia was to her reinvention of herself. I’ll have to look for it!

Tina's manager, Roger Davies, is an Aussie artist manager and is said (by Tina) to have been instrumental in turning Tina's career around when she split from Ike.

“Roger believed in me from the start and fought for me to make it as a solo artist — together we were the dream team,” she said.

“He is a very important person in my life ...... ”

It was Davies who helped foster a special relationship between Turner and her Australian fans. She toured here, but also shot George Miller’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, in which she played Aunty Entity alongside Mel Gibson in the outback mining town of Coober Pedy. Turner also famously fronted campaigns for the NRL with her song, The Best, remaining an anthem of the game.
