Titanic II to set sail in 2022 resuming route of original ship

Will all future conversations about the Titanic, now need to be clarify by adding Titanic I, or Titanic II ? Suddenly the grand olde ship is just one of a pair. Bleh!

Titanic is on TV AGAIN! Different channel too. The movie was an amazing and epic movie. The real life tragedy? Not so much. I am still baffled that anyone would go on this “cruise”. Cringey

I'd be more interested in a luncheon/dinner/tea or even a breakfast while moored in a nice harbor.

Yes, indeedy I love love love the Queen Mary in Long Beach!

Our family slide show includes a snapshot of my sister & I on the US United States, back when you could walk up the gangway while ships were in the New York harbor....

Most of us are familiar with the 1997 Titanic starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, but there are some other films about the ill-fated ocean liner that appear on TCM occasionally. A Night to Remember (1958) is a British documentary based on the tragedy at sea. Titanic (1953) stars Barbara Stanwyck, Clifton Webb, and Robert Wagner. The Unsinkable Molly Brown is a movie musical about the sinking of the Titanic starring Debbie Reynolds and Harve Presnell.

One hyphenated term for this venture: ill-fated.

I’m surprised a restaurant like the Titanic hasn’t been done already I think that would be a better option but it’s still making money on the back of a tragedy which I find distasteful.

Have you been on the Queen Mary? It looks like a great experience.

Several years ago, DH and I did a 7-night Canada/New England cruise. Halifax, Nova Scotia was among our ports of call, and we went on a "Titanic" shore excursion that took us to the Maritime Museum and one of the cemeteries where victims of the Titanic were laid to rest. It was a somber but truly informational and memorable tour.

I think it would be an amazing experience to cross the North Atlantic on Titanic II. Relive the era somewhat. Then, at that point in the voyage where the berg was struck I think would be a very somber moment. I hope it will be done in a reverent way and not cheap and gaudy.

My friends little boy was telling us they were rebuilding the Titanic the other day, we thought he was making it up.

Not sure how I feel about it. It would have been absolutely terrifying for those on board and I think it's pretty poor taste as the only goal, as others have said, is profit.

However, poor taste doesn't mean unpopular. I thought the United 93 film was made far too soon after the event too.

That said, I love history and would be fascinated to see the boat and it's interior. I just wouldn't want to cross the ocean in it! Call me superstitious but I think it's tainted with bad luck.

Me too! The design and crafting and art and skill and hard work of that day is amazing and so much is gone.
I'd love for a replica to be made, with the restaurants, gym, cabins and everything else available to the public. I'd book a room in a 3d class cabin and stroll around the ship for days.

I would NOT go if it was a cruise though, or in any way sent out to sea, or named "Titanic II."

I put off watching the movie for years because I try and avoid Hollywood blockbusters. Once I did, it turned into one of my all-time favorite movies.
Did some research and found out my oldest son was born almost exactly to the minute 75 years after she sank (and my waters broke around the same time it hit the iceberg, sorry if that's tmi,) and after that, the Titanic has been one of my favorite historic research subjects.

Lots and lots of stuff here, if the link works:

I'd love to see the Art Deco ( I think it is) Tiffany style glass frescos.. The furnishings should be fabulous.
I love to dress in clothing from that time period, when I can find it now..

But, it seems like a mockery of all those who died. The babies, the wives, the gentlemen at a time when men were truly gentlemen, and all the staff and crew.
It seemed like a " movie come true" until I read about it a few weeks ago and it hit me that this was media hype, and entire families were wiped out because of the mistakes of the captain and the lookout.

IF they are determined to do this, I think it would be so decent of them to donate a percentage of the proceeds to a trustworthy Seafarer's charity or several charities in Great Britain and the US for the widows and orphans. Men still go to sea in ships and never come home.

We would love a cruise just like this except for the provenance and the horror of the voyage it seems to almost mock for profit.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. One of Australia's wealthiest men, Clive Palmer, is behind this project. He's a billionaire and his name is absolutely toxic in Australia. He first announced this project in 2012 and said the ship would set sail in 2012, then 2016, and now 2022.

I don’t think anyone that’s replied to the thread will be heartbroken if it doesn’t happen :)
