TN - 4 dead, several injured at Waffle House, Nashville, Apr 2018 *Guilty*

Reporters are also saying TR was arrested many times in the past for gun related crimes, but was never charged, always allowed to keep guns.

He slipped through the cracks many, many times. Appalling, no excuse. Affluenza.

Reminds me of the Parkland shooter - sheriff called to the home 38 times for domestic disturbance and he's allowed weapons.

Well that's why I said many pages back that Illinois LE (Sheriff Dept. and Hwy Patrol) were all saying- No problem,

giving guns to father in Illinois. ATF doesn't seem to agree. i believe it will come down to ATF/FBI/Federal will

have presidence over local/state since ATF/FBI sent a directive to local/state to confiscate guns and his reg. card.

There WILL be a major Pi$$ing contest over this one. Just watch. Especially since the screwup at Parkland w/ FBI.

I hope that happens, but the gun folk are always whining about "state's rights". The tragic mistakes made in this case are the result of the system that the pro-gun folks want.

They've constructed a system of pro-gun rights anarchy - Everyone is allowed to have and use guns any kind, anywhere, any time any way they wish. Their rights to unfettered ownership and use of guns supersede our rights to safety, peace and order in our communities. How do we find safety and peace of mind? How do we find a place to live, work, shop, raise families and enjoy ourselves without fear of armed lunatics running around?

I just had a conversation with a family member who wanted me to travel to visit them in a state right next to TN. I told them I don't go down to those states anymore. They're unsafe. No way will I spend my vacation time and money in those areas. No way.

I don't think the 'in the south' has any bearing on this case. Criminals don't care about laws.

Sadly, this guy wasn't considered a criminal until he murdered 4 people, though he committed crimes in the past, some with weapons. States in the south have more lax laws that don't reinforce sensible gun ownership relating to criminals. It's their right to do so and my right to not visit or live there.

I think most people would agree that some people shouldn't be allowed to own guns without getting into a gun control debate. I agree with you 38 times is beyond a red flag. The mother was screaming on top of her lungs for the law to assist her. The fact nothing was done was insane.
and again in this case.

Apparently, the majority of the general public doesn't have enough power to force these sensible changes. :jail:

It seems in this case, no one in TR's family was asking for help. They were getting help and guidance, but refusing to listen and follow orders. There may be a pattern of that in the past, we'll see.

So many of these cases have red flags that should have kept guns well away from the perp - James Holmes, Adam Lanza, Dylan Roof, there's no Monday morning quarterbacking in any of those cases needed to see that they shouldn't have been allowed to own a gun.

it always amazes me how the concept of sueing comes up within hours of anything tragic

winning a lawsuit takes years and has zero meaning if the person being sued has no assets.

I suppose it makes people feel better

noone is gonna be able to sue LE people even sue LE agencies when there is video of cops killing people nothing happens unless the dept voluntarily decides to pay something

what a non therapeutic way to work through loss -- endless hours reliving the events that resulted in the loss of a loved one -- reliving it for years

by tomm people will be filing lawsuits against waffle house for not having metal detectors or bulletproof windows or bulletproof tables or bullet proof vests available for rent or bulletproof plates and glasses or chairs or armed servers and cooks or ..........................

Rebecca Zahau's family would probably disagree with you. Because I was a plaintiff in a med mal case, I disagree with you . Where criminal laws don't apply or fail us, civil courts come in .If you want to find out the truth someone is hiding, sue them . If you want to change their bad behavior, publicly humiliate them and hurt them in the wallet. Even a poor person can win the lottery. You can keep them poor the rest of their life. Because of lawsuits, laws are changed, products are safer, and the truth is revealed.

Exactly! There's no way the parents didn't see the red flags. They are privy to far more then we know!

Until there's easier access to mental health help, things aren't going to change. The root of the problem has to be addressed and treated! There needs to be support and education for the patient as well as family. But when will it happen? When will society demand the change that the mentally ill deserve? The prisons are full of people with mental health illness. Obviously it's not helping the truly ill people. We've tried mental institutions, they didn't work. Maybe they'll just find a test to detect illnesses in fetuses and start aborting them...didn't Hilter try doing that? Eliminating those with health problems or who he saw as a drain on society? Didn't work. Disgusting that all this time later, still no answers for those that need help!

Yes, and I've read a lot of history books about Colonial US over the years. If you look at legal and court records from back in those times, US citizens held their right to civil suit in court in extremely high regard. They sued each other all the time - for someone's cow damaging their crops, for the right to have a road to their own property, you name it. It was very important to people coming from countries (England, Germany, etc) where they didn't have those rights in courts of law. To paraphrase Atticus Finch, our courts are the great levelers of society. It's not a perfect system yet (women still don't automaticaly have equal rights in court under Constitutional law) but we're getting there.

I think he's too mad to execute, he probably thought Taylor Swift was telling him to do it or something equally loopy. They should never let him out again though.

And yet somehow he was sane enough to refuse to talk to LE And request a lawyer. I wonder if he was in touch with family during his time on the lam.

Are you sure that "happened"? It's a tweet, not a news or police report. I would take that story with a few grains of salt.
Exactly. I follow him on Twitter and on more than one occasion he has Tweeted information that has turned out to be false. In many cases he didn't even bother to issue a correction. This absolutely could be about race, but it's unproductive to jump to conclusions.

Yeah, his actions demonstrate that he knew what he did was wrong and thus likely doesn't meet the legal standard for insanity. That, juxtaposed with his incredibly bizarre behavior prior to this particular event, is difficult to reconcile.

I hope ALL of his history comes out. Did his parents ever seek treatment when a minor? What was his diagnosis?

Was he supposed to be on therapeutic drugs? Was he taking anything? What were his street drug habits?

History of breaking law as minor?

I think we'll see that his parents have been covering for and enabling him for his entire life. When I heard he had been

living in apt. at his father's crane business, I figured the parents were aiding and abetting him his whole life.

Wonder what his father's criminal history is. I know we can't sleuth him, but I think that's part of the explanation here.

Yes, there's a lot at this link, too, about the family and how they dealt (or didn't) with his problems. They were very consistent in making sure he had access to guns whenever possible. They claimed they took them away at times, but he always got them back, always caused problems with them again.

Mom is hyper-religious and talks a lot about home schooling. He may have been home schooled at some point, wouldn't be surprised.

Many of Judy Reinking’s posts on social media are laced with Christian references. Some of her posts were about parenting, including home schooling, and one referenced school shootings (you can see the latter post above.)

In 2016, she shared a graphic that read, “When you carry a bible, the devil gets a headache. When you open it, he collapses. When he sees you reading it, he faints. When he sees you living it, he flees…”

In 2015, she shared a graphic on school shootings. It reads: “I don’t remember a single school shooting when I was a kid. What I do remember is our teacher having us begin the day reciting the pledge of allegiance, reading from the Bible and praying. We also had the Ten Commandments on the wall. Maybe getting rid of those things wasn’t such a good idea after all!”

She was also into the "biblican end times" stuff.

If you think race didn't play a role in this crime, besides killing 4 persons of color, read this story on Reinking that
just happened last week at a grocery store where he was yelling racial slurs at a black woman and her black daughter.
https://twitter.com/ShaunKing/statu.../2018/04/travis-reinking-waffle-house-gunman/

That's interesting. I hope this woman reports the incident to LE. Not everyone calls police after these kinds of incidents. It's become more and more commonplace and a lot of people (especially minorities) are reluctant to report it for fear of problems and negative repercussions. Not everyone is sympathetic.

Comments from a former student at a HS where Reinking took a chemistry class said he was homeschooled but came to

her HS for a chemistry class.

The following police report and article discusses an attempted suicide in a CVS parking lot where many of Reingold's

family showed up along with police. Police report states "Travis is hostile towards police and does not recognize police

authority." (MOO, Wonder where he learned this attitude, Dad?) Police report says "Reinking claimed he had autism."

"Travis also posseses several firearms."

http://www.week.com/story/38015058/digging-deeper-travis-reinkings-background

so here's another example of his parents knowing his mental state and yet allowing him to keep his guns.

I've wondered also if his parents were in touch while he was in hiding. Wonder if the police will get a warrant for their

cell phones or computers? Like they did with Omar Mateen's wife.?? She didn't commit the crime but LE sure went

after her aggressively.

I noticed both parents have shut down their FB accts. There's lots of negative backlash against them right now.
