Police chief reports numerous tips received since Impact Team report on cold case murder
''COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - Video obtained exclusively by the Action News 5 Impact Team has led to tips in a Covington cold case murder.

''The video shows a man walking in the area where a Covington convenience store owner and father of three was gunned down three years ago.
Investigators said he’s a person of interest in the murder of Adel Elrafei, who was killed on Christmas Day, 2022, inside the Bull Market on Highway 51.
At first, investigators believed the motive was robbery. But the chief says that’s no longer the case''.
“We think it’s someone he was not scared of, was not startled from. It’s somebody who may have frequented the store,” Chief Turner said. “We know that somebody was going up and down Highway 51 on Christmas Day in 2022, and the video indicates that they may have waved at our suspect. So, it’s somebody who saw somebody walking. That’s going to stand out walking in the snow.”
Elrafei was an Egyptian immigrant.''

Newly-enhanced video shared exclusively with the Impact Team shows a man Covington police are now calling a “person of interest.”

''COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - New video obtained exclusively by the Action News 5 Impact Team shows a person of interest in the murder of a Tipton County man on Christmas Day 2022.

The video shows a man walking in the area where a Covington convenience store owner and father of three was gunned down almost three years ago. His killer has never been caught.''

The Impact Team spoke to the victim’s family and investigators, who hope this enhanced clip helps them crack the case this Christmas.

“Adel was Muslim, but he loved Christmas because we loved Christmas,” said Elfrafei. “He loved the dinners and the whole gifts for the kids. We haven’t had Christmas since.”
On Christmas Day, 2022, snow covered Covington, Tennessee. Adel Elrafei spent the morning with his family, then opened the Bull Run convenience store for any last-minute shoppers.''

“It was Christmas Day, and I’d asked him to please stay home with us and have dinner. But that was Adel. He thought maybe somebody would need something, like for Christmas dinner. Run by the store, and he’d open. That’s just the way he was,” she said.''
