KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A woman whose remains were found in Alcoa 20 years ago is still unidentified. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) says that the woman was found on March 25, 2003, less than half a mile from McGhee Tyson Airport. Her partial skeletal remains were found scattered in a drainage creek off Cusick Road, east of Wright Road.

We will take a look. Thanks for sharing!

Someone to look into:
Ashley Tyronda Norah https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/9345/20/

Persuasive factors:
1) She went missing at 17, falling in the age range on NamUs.
2) She was 61 inches tall as compared to our Doe, but that number may have been on school records, a learner's permit, and she had grown since then.
3) She matches all of the basic identifiers, having black/brown hair, having a weave in her photos, and being African-American.

If Ashley had died immediately, it would be too long of a time frame, but considering there are no details on the finer points of her disappearance, it might be worth a look. She had to get to Tennessee if nothing else, and we've all heard stories of runaways, with friends, lovers, or alone, who then meet foul play.

Does anyone think it's compelling? I'm just getting started and trying to go off of data as I'm really just terrible at visually comparing people.
Hi, I know this post is 7 years old but I am very curious to know if you were able to find any info on Ashley Norah at all? Why is there zero info on her anywhere? Someone has to still be missing her and wonder where she is/what happened. please let me know if you can. Thanks

Five years ago, forensic genetic genealogists at Bode uploaded a sample of her DNA into two public ancestry databases, GEDmatch PRO and Family Tree DNA, and began trying to build her family tree. Through their extensive research, they’ve been able to identify a number of potential family lines connected to specific regions and surnames.

Now they need your help.

Vreeland said forensic genetic genealogists at Bode, a longtime partner of NCMEC’s that has helped identify dozens of deceased children, are especially interested in hearing from people with family ties to these areas:
  • Moore, Forsyth and Guilford counties in North Carolina
  • Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx in New York
  • Newberry County, South Carolina
  • Newport News, Virginia
According to Vreeland, surnames of interest include: Suber, Jackson, Leak, Hargroves, Russell, Roach, Harris and Goins. The Suber family has deep roots in Newberry County; other surnames are primarily associated with families in the North Carolina counties. Many descendants, particularly from the Jackson and Leak lines, have strong ties to Moore County and have moved between there and New York City since the mid-20th century.

Alcoa Detective Connor Underwood, the lead investigator on the case, is asking anyone with connections to these names and places to call him at 1-865-981-4111. If a match looks promising, they’ll be asked to submit DNA for confirmation with a mouth swab, he said.

Ok with this new info, I have a strong suspicion that she was a student at the University of TN. They need to look at admissions and registration records of UT. Also, Pellissippi State College had a very small satellite campus in an old elementary school not too far away, just to the south.

(I lived in that area for 17 years. I worked at MKAA airport for 5 years.)

The tourist industry in Sevier County, think Dollywood, is 45 minutes east. So I don’t believe she was a tourist. We didn’t have “the tourist thing” going on back then, there wasn’t anything to see or do.

The area she was found in, is near an old residential area. The brick Alcoa building nearby was torn down, as it was in great disrepair. For her to be there, someone local had to know how secluded it was.

What baffles me in this case is that it is a farly recent one, they estimated the year of death to be 2002.

When you lok at the Doe Network missing black women as of 1998, in that age range, you still have:

Nicole Devon Inton, 64 inches (ca 5’3”)

Patrece Lashelle Alston, 5’5”

Robin Michelle Smith, 5’3-5’4”

Kimberly Nicole Arrington, 5’4”

Taniticia Sulynn Shelton, 5’2”

Lovace Renee Simmons, 5’6-5’8

Kimberly Sipp , height a bit off

Daphne Philisia Jones, 5’5

Micky Colman, 5’5”

Shirley Ann Gladney, 5’7

Genelle Princess Bradford, 5’3”

Etc etc

Of course the very protruding upper teeth, almost horizontal, is a very specific detail.
