CA - Murder victims Identified as Rob Reiner and wife Michele - LA Dec 14 2025

It is in my opinion, it screams of revenge. Knowing that the people were famous and peers of his parents, it was to embarrass them. ‘I’m going to make my father angry and take it one step further by asking his friends if they are famous’. That is so condescending and disrespectful. He has deep rooted anger. Maybe jealous that his father was an upstanding person and contributed positively to society. .

I agree @Luna2

Whatever had been going on at home was continued into the party where he sabotaged his parents by getting high and acting out to embarass them, knowing a fight would ensue.

How that accelerated into double murder is something we might never understand.

I keep thinking about How when compared to the actor in the doc” being Charlie and the host said you seem more mild mannered. Nick said “ oh I go crazy” almost like he was bragging a little. Rob said he could get heated too sometimes. I bet it often resulted in a power struggle. I bet some of it was about control for Nick. He couldn’t beat his dad at anything else, so he wore him down instead.

Ok, so this changes the timeline a bit. I figured he murdered them right after they left the party, but it now appears he wandered around for a few hours, returned, murdered them, and then checked into a hotel.

Nick Reiner appeared to be totally calm as he walked near his parent’s Brentwood home just hours before they were butchered, sending shockwaves through Hollywood.

The 32-year-old — dressed in blue jeans, a long-sleeve shirt, baseball cap and carrying a backpack — strolled by a local gas station just before midnight Saturday, as seen in footage obtained by The Post.

Rob and Michele were killed early Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney. The new surveillance footage places Nick close to the family home hours before his parents’ slayings.

That's addiction talking: It's so.simple - just give me endless money, a nice place to live, and leave me alone to be high.

This sums up what NR wanted to do......

“I come from a nice family,” he said. “I’m not supposed to be out there on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all these… things.” “just wanted to get back to my old life of like smoking weed, kind of taking some pills, like doing whatever I wanted.” “Just everybody use or don’t use… whatever.”

“kind of taking some pills”

That’s a true statement of an addict. It’s either Yes or No to pills, “kinda” is a term of denial. Lack of accountability by default when “kinda” is in the conversation.

It makes me wonder if his brain is so fried from the drugs that it led him to do this, or was he of sound mind, literally acting out of anger and revenge. I suppose it could be both, it’s just unreal.

Accounts from those who knew him paint a picture of guy who was out of control, even as a child.

Drugs can’t help though.

True. Drugs multiplied his many demons.

What would be the answer to harnessing someone like that at an early age?

Respectfully, Showbiz-411 (cited and/or attributed by DM), first suggested MR was found alive, and died not in the house but on her way to the hospital, by its publication on December 15, 2025 8:39 pm, By Roger Friedman.

However, following today's press conference at 4 pm ET by LA County DA -- announcing the formal charges against NR, I believe we can safely debunk the earlier published suggestion!

To be clear, during the conference, Chief Jim McDonnell read a brief statement confirming that LAPD officers from the West LA division responded to a death investigation in Brentwood. Upon entering the residence of Rob & Michelle Reiner, they discovered their bodies. Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division (Homicide Special), immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation, and the evidence gathered led to the arrest of their son, NR.

Presser is linked numerous times in this thread.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread, but tonight on the news, I heard them say that rigor mortis had set in, so they surmised the couple had been dead for as many as 12 hours by the time they were discovered.

Thank you. I also heard that mentioned today, but when asked about the estimated time of death today, the DA deferred to LAPD, and the Chief stated this info would have to come from the Medical Examiner -- if they were able to estimate the TOD.

I don't know that we know this. Yes, it's in "MSM" (mostly tabloid-type rags IMO).

With that said, in the presser the DA of LA County Nathan Hochman said this:

"You will hear in the media... rumors. You will hear speculation. You will hear hearsay. What I'm asking everyone to do is to rely on trusted sources. If it doesn't come from the District Attorney's office, from LAPD, from the Coroner's Office, or from the courtroom itself, there is a good chance you are hearing misinformation. Because at the appropriate time the actual evidence involved in this case will be presented in a court of law. So I ask for your patience until that is done, but again, please do not rely on rank speculation, rumor or hearsay, to believe that you understand anything about what went on with this case."

Cued up:

ETA - Left out the word "not" as in "do not rely on rank speculation". Made that change!
OK, but keep in mind that at the Sunday evening press conference, the police would not even confirm the identities of the deceased, even after the family had released a statement, and denied that there was a person of interest they thought was responsible. It was bizarre watching the guy twist himself in circles saying that there was no need for the public to be concerned about a killer being on the loose, while claiming they were not necessarily looking for anyone in particular.

I always get backlash when I say this, and of course, anyone charged with such a heinous crime still deserves a fair trial, but sometimes you just know. The defense attorney will figure out some sort of strategy, I happen to believe they'll go with an insanity defense, but there's Zero doubt who perpetrated these murders.

It appears that NR stayed within about a 15-mile radius when traveling from either the Pierside Hotel to where he was arrested on Sunday night near Exposition Park and USC Metro Station, or the Reiner's Brentwood residence and Expo Park/USC Station. It will be interesting to learn if he used a ride-share service during the hours following Conan's party, committing the murders, and ultimately getting to the Expo Park/USC area, where he was arrested.

Dual diagnosis. Boy was Nick ever wrong when he decided rehab and AA didn’t work for him. Not getting help clearly didn’t work for him.

But why stick around to torment your parents? If you want to prove you’re “better” than them, leave and make your own way in the world. If you resent being dependent on them, go out and prove you can do it.

In a way, this horrible incident reminds me of Tarzan actor Ron Ely’s son Cameron who became angry and killed his mother. Police responding to the 911 call killed the son in self defense.

Cameron also had problems with drug addiction and was still living at home despite graduating from Harvard. In the 911 call, he tried to blame his father for the murder. His father later sued the city and police for killing his son.

i was curious about the state of death penalty in california, and this website explains it quite well..

“The death penalty remains a legally valid form of punishment in California, specifically codified under Penal Code 190.2. Despite its legal status, no execution has been carried out in the state since 2006, creating a decades-long practical inactivity. This inactivity was formalized in March 2019 when Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-09-19, instituting an executive moratorium on capital punishment.”

“While new death sentences can be handed down, no person can be executed while the executive order remains in effect.”

I agree with you, he said he was trying to find his own identity ( with Chaos I guess) and in doing that, maybe he tried to make them feel bad so they will always try to overcompensate ? I dont even know if he knew what he was doing , he probably started young and realized a pattern that worked for him?

Why stick around I/O proving yourself.? Maybe because he couldn’t prove himself and bringing them down was easier than building himself up. Like that old theory of knocking people down to feel more equal and feel better about yourself? It’s a perception / illusion.
IDK this kid is beyond me, at 32 he was going on 15.
I cant wait for a psych person to evaluate him.
