Newly released police video shows a bestselling author and wife of Weezer’s bassist armed with a handgun as she was confronted by Los Angeles Police Department officers searching her Eagle Rock neighborhood for a trio of hit-and-run suspects earlier this month.

“Put the gun down! Hey, put the gun down,” officers are heard saying in the bodycam video as they looked over a backyard fence and saw Jillian Lauren Shriner.

“Lay the gun down,” officers yelled repeatedly.

“Ma’am, put the gun down,” another officer shouted. “Ma’am, we’re trying to help you!”

Officers repeatedly identified themselves as police and told Shriner she could be shot if she does not put the gun down.

One officer is heard in the video saying, “She just pointed it, not at us, but she just lifted it up.”

Seconds later, another officer says, “Oh she racked it.” Gunfire followed immediately.

The LAPD says two officers fired and wounded Shriner in the shoulder. No officers were injured.

She was treated for a graze wound to the shoulder at the hospital.

The video says it all. LE identified themselves many times and asked her to put the gun down but she shot at them anyway. You can see her leave the house with her gun so she was looking for trouble. If she was truly afraid for herself (which is just speculation at this point) she would have stayed in the house l, locked the doors and called 911. Her actions are insane.

Wife of Weezer Bassist appears in court with charges yet to be filed

Los Angeles prosecutors Wednesday did not file any charges against the wife of a Weezer band member during her initial court appearance in downtown Los Angeles.

Jillian Shriner was accused of firing a shot at police officers on April 8 when the LAPD officials were searching her neighborhood in Eagle Rock for three people who ran away from a car crash. The LAPD had said Shriner emerged from her home, armed with a handgun.

A deputy district attorney told a judge Wednesday that because LAPD investigators have not presented all the evidence they’ve gathered, the prosecution has not made a decision about what charges could be filed.

Could she have hearing issues? Her husband is in a rock band.

I just realized the book I chose for True Crime Book Club this month is Behold the Monster: Confronting America's Most Prolific Serial Killer by this woman, Jillian Lauren!

What an interesting element to add to our discussion.

I am sorry ,I do not understand what you mean by this?
It seems to indicate you think the author of the book is also a serial killer. Either way ,too new.
Maybe this reads better after I read the book?

Maybe they mean the term "monster?"
I'm reading this book a bit differently now.

Now, she has appeared in court and has been granted a delay in her LAPD shooting case. The 51-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges, and outlets including xrock1039 have reported that her defence attorney requested additional time to review video evidence before the key hearing.

The judge agreed to this and granted the extra time. Following Lauren agreeing to the postponement, a follow-up hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Exaggeration.

She filed for divorce

Prosecutors eventually charged Lauren with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. She pleaded not guilty in May to those felony charges. In September, Lauren avoided jail time for her role in the incident as a judge granted her diversion due to mental health issues. Under the agreement, Lauren must not own firearms, must avoid the use of drugs and alcohol and must attend therapy. She will be cleared of all charges if she successfully complies with the agreement for two years.

He's better off. Hopefully he has a pre-nup. (Not that I have one either.)

As for the judgement, seems fair. The only person hurt was herself. There's a better chance of her getting well this way than if she went to prison, where her addiction and mental health issues could get even worse and she'll leave an even bigger danger to herself and society than when she went in.

“My world fell to pieces around me in a heartbeat,” Lauren-Shriner told Rolling Stone of the aftermath. “It’s like, you spend your whole life just getting an entire deck of cards in order. And just take them and throw them up in the air one day, and I’m still waiting to see how they’re gonna land.”

She noted that she was "doing the best I knew to protect my family."

"[The] impulse was self-defense," Lauren-Shriner said.
[snip]
While she initially said she wouldn't do a book about her experience, she's shifted her perspective. "Books are what I do," said Lauren-Shriner.
Scott Shriner's Estranged Wife Jillian Breaks Silence on LAPD Shooting Incident: 'My Whole World Fell to Pieces'

of course she will write a book about it.

Too bad this agreement to avoid jail time didn't require her to take accountability and ownership of her crime. It's obvious from this article she isn't taking any accountability.
