Santrez Traylor, 34, was arrested and charged in the murder of Amanda Petrowski, his girlfriend and the mother of their two children, WREG reported. The disturbing incident unfolded in front of neighbors around 9 p.m. Sunday outside of Petrowski’s home in Memphis.
“I witnessed a murder. It’s pretty, pretty overwhelming,” Jay Smoot, who is Petrowski’s neighbor, told FOX13 Memphis.
“She was standing when he first hit her and then she fell down and he repeatedly was hitting her with the brick, hitting her with the brick,” an unidentified neighbor told FOX13. “Kicking, punching her. He was trying to make sure she was dead.”
The neighbor added: “He was backing up the car and running over her, backing up the car and running over her. I witnessed it about four times."

Jay Smoot still can't believe that he watched it all unfold.
"We saw a car driving back and forth across the lawn, and we didn't know what was happening from where we could see. But it turned out we were witnessing the murder occurring," he said.
Witnesses say they heard a woman scream, which turned out to be their neighbor Amanda Petrowski. The father of her children, Santrez Traylor, 34, was said to be repeatedly hitting her in the head with a brick or rock.

The Harahan Bridge over the Mississippi River was lit up in purple Wednesday night in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
People gathered to see the Big River Cross Bridge light up in purple to remember victims and survivors.
It's a crisis that's already claimed the life of one Mid-South woman this week.
The murder of Amanda Petrowski on Sunday is on the minds of these people.
“Today we remember the young victims who are no longer with us, like the young mom who was killed by her children’s father this past Sunday,” said Olliette Murray, Executive Director of Drobot Family Safety Center.

Domestic violence survivor Deborah Robinson told WREG she was "shocked" upon learning about Petrowski's fate, but added that she wasn't surprised Traylor had a long rap sheet that included previous instances of abuse.
“I just want to reiterate that this can happen to anybody, anywhere, it doesn’t matter where you live," she told the outlet. "It is a problem and it is a problem in Memphis.”
Robinson added that she would continue telling her own story in honor of people like Petrowski during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is observed the whole of October.
Traylor has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault, police said.
