Found Deceased TN - Arthur Lee, 59, geology professor, Oak Ridge, 20 Feb 2022

The Oak Ridge Police Department and several area agencies are searching for a missing Oak Ridge man near Melton Hill Lake.

Arthur Lee, 59, was last seen Sunday and may have been in the area of Melton Lake Drive and Melton Lake Peninsula.

ORPD, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), and the Blount County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) began searching for Lee around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Oak Ridge Fire Department (ORFD) assisted in the search with its boat on Melton Hill Lake.

Anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call ORPD at (865) 425-4399. Tips can also be submitted online at http://oakridgetn.gov/department/ORPD/Home. Information can be given anonymously.

Arthur Lee, 59, was last seen in the area of Melton Lake Drive and Melton Lake Peninsula. Police said many agencies in the area were searching for him, including the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the Blount County Sheriff's Office.


They started searching for Lee around 11 a.m. Tuesday, and the Oak Ridge Fire Department helped in the search with its boat on Melton Hill Lake.

As he is a geology professor would there have been anything geologically interesting in the area he was last known to be? Who reported him missing? Was he in a vehicle, or walking? Etc.

Lee is a tenured professor, with more than 20 years of experience, according to Roane State.

No longer an active search…. I mean I understand searching can’t go on indefinitely, but I wonder if LE has info that directs that decision? I was hoping Mr. Lee had been found. We still have almost no information that tells us anything.

@Limecat I’m unable to find any type of update or additional info to go by either. I did notice a lot of comments under LE’s post; it seems quite a few are questioning the circumstances around his disappearance (or rather lack of sharing, etc). Mr. Lee has obviously made a great impact on many people in the community.

This is so sad. He sounds like a nice, well respected member of his work and home communities.

The weather in TN is gorgeous right now. I hope this give LE the opportunity to find Dr. Lee.

Lee was also well-known in the community, mainly for his two-decade educational work at Roane State Community College, middle schools and the Morgan County Corrections Department.

Disappearance of Roane State professor stuns colleagues

This is curious that he also works for Morgan County Corrections Department, here's an article from Jan 2022:

When Roane State Community College Professor Arthur Lee teaches this class, he has to go through a security check and have all his class materials searched.

An officer then escorts him down corridors where heavy metal doors clang shut and lock behind them.

Finally, they reach a small, sparsely furnished room, where 12 men await, each wearing drab gray garb with the words "TN Department of Correction" printed on the shirt backs.

Lee’s late afternoon geology class at the Morgan County Correctional Complex is about to begin. When it’s over, Lee will be escorted back to freedom by an officer.

Disappearance of Roane State professor stuns colleagues

One of the last sightings of Lee might have been near Melton Hill Lake.

His colleagues told WVLT News his disappearance was unusual as he stuck to a set and known schedule.
