or my tried and true method - walking. Never fails! That's natures way of getting things moving again (worked with my young son too). Which leads me to believe the hairbrush and "constipation" are not related in anyway shape or form!

Something is off, if he was having problems why not wait for his mother to get home to handle it? Parents know about constipation and how to handle it. Why not wait and let mom give her OWN child a suppository (sp). To use a hair brush? And it broke off inside him? She's sadistic and wanted to hurt this baby IMOO!

Yeah and you can buy suppositories without a perscription, so that isn't an excuse. Or how about part of an enema if it was that bad? An enema isn't recommended, but even that is better than a hairbrush.

IMO the "constipated" excuse is just that, an excuse. My bet is that he wasn't even constipated.

Oh gosh, both of my children had constipation issues over the years. My sons we later learned were related to a condition he had within his urinary tract. I worried so and even cried when they cried in pain. There are so many over-the- counter remedies you can try, a hairbrush is beyond torturous.

Why in the world would anyone do this to a child? I don't think I can believe this was done to relieve this poor child's constipation. She broke the handle off. IMO this was an extremely violent act against little one. Nothing else can explain the handle breaking off for me.

My thoughts are that it wouldn't be her place ANYWAY to try to relieve constipation from someone elses child. I'm still just infuriated about this case. I wonder how many other children over the years have been abused by this monster?

I am in no way defending what this woman did but I have been told by the doctor to try rectal stimulation on my 6 month old for constipation. After trying to use movement (walking her, doing the bicycle with her legs, putting slight pressure 2 fingers below her belly button) and 20 minutes in a warm bath, nothing worked and she just kept screaming. I called the doctor and they told me to give her 8 oz of sugar water and to try rectal stimulation with a thermometer. The instructions were to put the thermometer in like I was taking her temp and to let her push it out on her own. It worked and she went right there on the changing table. This is not something that I would do again unless all other methods failed and I would NEVER use it on anyone else’s child.

You did a couple of right things here!

It is your child and you tried natural remedies.
You called a doctor and received advice
A rectal thermometer is used by most mothers to take temperatures and is not harmful to a baby if used as directed
This home remedy is used for infants usually between the age of 4-6 months (not 2 year olds who are on solid foods)
And, most importantly, you didn't use a handle of a hairbrush

More info here on bowel stimulation for infants using a thermometer. This is mainly used because children under a year should not be given enemas, or many of the other traditional methods (diet changes, etc - because they are on breast milk or formula).

If this child was in fact constipated, the doctors would be able to tell when the handle was passed (I would think).

Well I very much doubt any doctor told this particular woman to stick a hair brush into the child's rectum.
