COLUMBIA, Tenn. -- Authorities in Tennessee say a spat over chewing gum ended with a 14-year-old boy stabbing his twin brother to death.

He's now charged with first-degree murder.

The sheriff's office in Maury County said the twins were arguing when one grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother in the chest.

Sheriff Enoch George said the boys' mother administered CPR, but the victim died later at Maury Regional Hospital. The 911 operator was talking her through the procedure, but it was unsuccessful.

The sheriff said the surviving teen is very remorseful.

Both boys attended Culleoka School south of Columbia.

"This is going to be a hard life lesson for our students," said principal Jeff Quirk. "It's going to be a long healing process for our students during this time."

Why would a 14 reach for a knife? What happened to the normal punching between kids. Somewhere the system is failing the kids. Reaching for a weapon is a whole different ball game then just old fashion fighting.

I was at Culleoka school this past Saturday for a Basketball Jamboree. Very small community and the school is K-12. Horrible.
