DYERSBURG, Tenn. — The parents of a Dyersburg Middle School student, seen in a video being thrown to the floor by a teacher breaking up a fight, said they are taking her out of the school. FOX13 learned the teacher, 61-year-old Carey Sanders, has been suspended after being charged with assault.

Jamila and George Miller told FOX13 they are concerned about the well-being of their 8th-grade daughter Janiya Miller, especially after she was diagnosed by the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services with severe autism.

“I do want him fired, and I don’t want him to do anything to no child again,” said Jamila Miller, the mom of the 14-year-old.

Charges dropped against Tennessee teacher who slammed student during school fight

The district attorney said that he didn't believe the teacher meant to cause the girl any harm.

As the parent of a child with high-functioning autism, I say those parents had to have blinders on if the child has severe autism and was only recently diagnosed.

I'm autistic and this is so, so disturbing. I was also abused by a teacher, but not to the level as this girl. I really hope she's not going to the same school. Ideally, this man would never work with kids again, but that's just wishful thinking.
