One week later and Chase Stafford is still missing

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office needs your help to find a missing woman. Chase hasn't been seen since May 10. She was dropped off on Chapmansboro Road in Ashland City.

According to the sheriff's office, her phone and glasses were found in a backpack on Highway 49. Originally that backpack was returned to the family before she was reported missing. The sheriff's office said after learning that, they asked for the backpack. They got it on May 12 and it is still being examined.

There was a search for her on May 15.

"Based upon the results of that operation we have currently scaled back slightly our operation to process further what we have recovered and learned so far. There are several items of interest that we are forensically examining for further information that we believe will lead us to the whereabouts of Ms. Stafford," the sheriff's office said in a release.

Just my thinking here, I am local to the area. I know that she was “dropped off” in what looks to be a bathing suit. This road runs along the Cumberland River and the dam is pretty close. I’m thinking she was getting on a boat. I would think the boyfriend that dropped her off would have known this information. He would’ve known where and who she would be getting on a boat with. Something doesn’t add up here.

A body has been recovered Thursday morning near the Cheatham Dam.

"We would like to address rumors that are currently beginning to come in and state that at this time we are unable to confirm that the body recovered this morning is our missing person, Chase Stafford. The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating the disappearance of Ms. Stafford and asks that if anyone has any information concerning her to please contact the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office."

“The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office is still considering this to be an active investigation and now have shifted our focus to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent death,” CCSO said.

Cheatham County Lt. Shannon Heflin told WSMV4 earlier this week Stafford’s family had been extremely concerned.

“She was traveling with her boyfriend and from there she voluntarily got out of the vehicle,” Heflin said. That’s when Stafford’s boyfriend said she disappeared.

In all reality I once actually dated a girl who would get pissed off at me and jump out of my car, turn up some time later dropped off by some stranger. One time she even literally tried to jump in the river. She's still alive somehow, did a stretch and maybe calmed down a bit after release.

If she had turned up dead in that river I think there would have been security video of her "acting erratically" and her family would have been able to confirm that wasn't entirely out of the ordinary behavior for her. Maybe in this case there is more evidence than has been released that makes the boyfriend's story more believable than it seems to us from the news story.

Christian group covering funeral costs for family of Tennessee girl found dead

A faith-based organization will be paying for the funeral of a Cheatham County girl whose body was recovered in Middle Tennessee last week, family members tell

Stafford's cousin, Desirae, tells FOX 17 News the Jae & Zeke Foundation has offered to pay for Stafford's funeral costs. The organization is a Christ-centered foundation "committed to providing spiritual guidance, emotional support and financial assistance to people who have suffered a loss from a sudden tragedy."

A memorial for Stafford will be held Wednesday, May 24 at the Cheatham County Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following.
