Pros has rebuttal witnesses? Have we had that happen in the other two trials?

  • #622
State rebuttal witnesses after break; then argue and charge after which will be time to send jury home. Deliberations to begin then in the am.

I don't think the passive ("None of my bidnezz") personality is a defense or mitigating factor!

Ma'fact... I read only a small percentage or proportion of sociopaths actually ever commit crimes for which they're ever exposed... most, rather, lurk their entire lifetimes silently in the shadows. Scary huh.

Very interested to see this rebuttal. normally i would think it wouldn't be worth it, so this must be good stuff.

I will say this, I appreciate that mrs thomas attended her son's trial, and got up there and told his story and begged for his life. Thats what moms do. Unconditional love. Its not her fault what he turned into, and its too bad that George doesnt seem to care.

I can't get over the revelation that he has a child, about a 2 year old child. He lived with Stacy for a year before the crime. Did she have a baby or was he spreading himself around in Lebanon. Stacy seemed so sad this time. I think she actually started to cry at one point. She's been a strong, direct witness, not showing much emotion in the other trials.

Talking of Stacy, one of my indelible memories of this series of trials will be the judge swearing in Stacy 'to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,' but then a little while later admonishing her not to tell the jury the truth when they'd asked why she left Knoxville the day after New Year's.

LOL. Great point! Sometimes court rules are really counter-intuitive. Trials are supposed to be about getting the truth. But increasingly there are rules or laws that prohibit certain facts from being disclosed. Its really shamful in my opinion.

Church did try to teach members right from wrong.

Only problem is it's not what children hear for an hour on Sunday... it's what they see lived out from Monday thru Saturday.

How does one go from church pews to Chipman house of horrors?

Yes, from the house of God, to the house of horrors... how great was the fall...

I do think it was a bit inappropriate for her to keep saying "he is a good boy". when we all know he isnt. She should have said "he CAN be a good boy" or something like that. Otherwise, it just minimizes what happened to Channon or else shows how detached she is from the man that George turned into.

ITA... or "he WAS a good boy..." because he isn't a "boy" anymore and hasn't been for some years. That's the point. As much as these defense lawyers want to get juries focused on these defendants as children he is an ADULT now both fully capable of reasoning and responsible for his own actions for some time.

Likely no deliberation today unless jury insists. State says has rebuttal witnesses

TK - wants to put in proof of Thomas bad behavior in jail

So the defense says they can say that George works well in a structured environment, but objects to proof that he has actually assualted prison staff.

The Judge seems so much less agitated in Thomas than he did in Davidson. He looked 10 years old in Davidson than he did in Cobbins. For some reason, I think this trial is easier for him.
