Her attorney was asking for 14. The DA wanted 77. The judge said consistent with the other defendants, the kidnapping and rape charges are concurrent. I think that's what brought the total down.

Someone correct me if I misunderstood that.

Someone post a thread when there's a news conference. I'd like to hear what the parents have to say.

TIA

If she only spends 33% of the 53 years she will be out in about 20 years, right? He gave her 25-12-12 -4 on the charges

Here is another kid from a good family that ached to taste and live the bad girl life. Did she ever think of anyone other than herself? Absolutely NO! Now the parents have to live with this shame and embarrassment.

I agree with the sentence. I truly did not think any female could be that cold to another.

Just a sad sad case.

If I heard correctly, she has to serve 33% before she's up for parole. And going by parole boards these days...yes, she could be free then.

Wonder why her family didn't speak out for her, at least some :waitasec: .

Maybe they were thinking she was getting what she deserved.

I wonder if a True Crime author will write about this case. Out of all the crime related events i've read (and I've read a ton) this is probably one of the worst i've ever heard.

C&C's story needs to be told. either in book from or TV form it needs to be told

Thank you everyone for the updates. I was hoping she would get 77 years but 53 is better than 14. I hope she serves every day, I know she won't but it's a dream I have! As cold and as hard as she was before ever serving time, I cannot imagine how she will be after spending years in prison. Society will never be safe if she is free!

I think that Vanessa being a female put a twist to the sentencing. The fact that she stood by and allowed another female to be horribly tortured, brutally raped and horrifically murdered says a lot about her. In some ways even more evil than the animals that raped Channon.

was Chris raped in front of Channon? I can't even BEGIN to imagine the awful, horrible, brutal pain Channon was going through. having your private parts scrubbed, I'd imagine it would feel like Alcohol being poured into an open wound. My God, how could you not scream and cry at that.

At that point I would be praying for death. just horrible horrible horrible all the way around.

I hate pain of any kind, But I always remind myself this is nothing like the kind of pain CC went through.

As I promised in a previous thread, I was in the courtroom today. All the above posts are excellent. When the hearing was over and VC was being led away, she turned toward her family and smiled and winked.

Something that is forgotten at the moment is that sperm from two males was found on Channon's undergarments in a final test just before the trials started in 2009. The DNA didn't belong to any of the suspects and their known friends. Nor did it match Chris Newsom's DNA.

This means there may well be more trials in the future. I have wondered why no suspect named these other two individuals as part of the "blame the others" defense already being used. We won't know for sure until DNA matches are made, but I wonder if they even knew the names. They might have just wandered into the Chipman St. house and taken part.

George Thomas, for example, supposedly didn't have a record and was identified because he hung around with Cobbins. They may even have been juveniles. Just some theories I'm throwing out.
