GUILTY TN - Chris Newsom, 23, & Channon Christian, 21, murdered, Knoxville, 6 Jan 2007 #20

Someone on another forum said they got to hear the call that Channon made to her father during the GT trials?

The trial videos are up on Youtube (in parts).

Did anyone else get to hear the phone call? I would like to hear it.

I did not watch George Thomas's trial online so I'm curious if they included the call that Channon made.

TY.

And I'm excited that Jamie S. is working on a book about this case. I believe she would do much better at writing this than a seasoned true crime author.

I will def. be buying a copy.

That is a good question. I hadnt seen that and I didnt really follow the last trial either. I would think that once the last trial is over some of the evidence may be released. Not sure exactly what the law is in Tennessee regarding that though. But once the trials are concluded the "investigation" is probably officially over and that evidence may be subject to public information requests. Since there will still be appeals, there may be continuing exceptions however.

Jamie Satterfield told me by email a few days ago that she is now working on the book. I still don't understand why HLN didn't pick up the live stream. They didn't have anything else going on at the time.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but the Newsom and Christian parents were on with Glenn Beck tonight. Channel is The Blaze, they rerun the show various times tonight. They are very brave people.

I'm excited to learn that a book is being written; I would definitely get it. This case was local to me.

Welcome Starlet :seeya: Gosh being a local had to be so tough. I'm many miles away and this case is one of the worst I ever came across. And to have a retrial :banghead: I cant even imagine what this has been like for the Family's.

Jamie Satterfield is currently writing a book. She will do a very good job since she's been there from the very beginning.

I'm looking forward to reading it

Does anybody know how Jamie's book writing is going.

I havent heard anything. I am sure it will take some time. She has a "day job" so she probably only could work on it in her spare time. I am sure she wants to do a good job. Will you read it? I have mixed feelings on whether I will or not.

I will read it, but I hope the autopsy photos are not included.

I've heard the autopsy photos are really really bad.

at the first trial if you watched it online, they accidentally showed one of Channon's (I didn't see it) but some posters here did and it was pretty gruesome from the comments here.

I watched a large part of that trial but I missed that I guess. I am sure those photos must be horrific. I still think of Channon and Chris and their families often. Such a sad story.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but Effective July 1st...

Chris Newsom Act:

694 SB1796 Evidence - As enacted, enacts the "Chris Newsom Act", which creates presumption to successor trial and appellate judges that if
the original trial judge dismisses the jury following a unanimous
verdict, that the judge exercised his or her duties as the 13th juror
and approves the verdict. - Amends TCA Title 40, Chapter 18, Part 1.

Channon Christian Act:

713 SB1797 Criminal Procedure - As enacted, enacts the "Channon Christian Act", which clarifies rule of evidence regarding certain character
evidence. - Amends TCA Title 24, Chapter 7, Part 1.

http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislation/publications/Effective 7-1-2014.pdf

The Chris Newsom Act would do away with the state's 13th juror rule, which requires a judge to validate a jury verdict by signing a document. They hope that would cut down on re-trials, like the ones both families had to endure.

The Senate approved that measure unanimously, along with an amended version of the Channon Christian Act. It would prevent evidence or allegations of previous behavior that could call into question the character of a victim, defendant, witness or third-party.
