We are back in a Dickson Co. for day 3 of the sentencing phase for Steven Wiggins. Could we hear from his family today? The defense says they plan to call some family that Wiggins’ father “terrorized.” The DA says the defense plans to call 3 more brain experts today.

Judge Wolfe says one of the alternate jurors is sick and will be released to go back home. He adds that coughing in the court is becoming a distraction and those who are coughing need to wear a mask. If they refuse, they will be asked to leave.

We are picking up testimony with Wiggins’ former boss. He has been instructed that he can not give his opinion on the death penalty. The Judge stopped his testimony last night as he inserted his personal thoughts

The defense brought his former colleague in to share a story of when “Wiggins saved his life.” The DA is using this opportunity to show Wiggins is skilled, a quick thinker and strong, contrary to the idea brain experts painted

The DA wants to bring in an arrest report that shows this witness arrested weeks after his heart attack for public intoxication and discharge of a firearm at a public roadway. They are trying to show his lack of credibility. Judge denies allowing the report in

So far the defense witnesses testimony for mitigation haven't outweighed the aggravating factors IMO.

The witness is Steven Wiggins’ cousin. She says his father (her uncle) Scott was about 3-4 years older than her. She says she was about 13 years old when he began to sexually abuse her

As the witness left the courtroom she began crying loudly. Wiggins’ mom broke down crying as well, quietly. The witness just came back and sat beside her. They are now holding hands, crying together. The jurors are taking note

Her name was Brenda Guinn. She wasn't on the stand very long. Right before this last doctor. I guess the defense is trying to break the boredom by the order in which they're calling their witnesses.
