"What seemed at first like an open-and-shut case has stretched on for more than three years without a single arrest."
Knoxville stabbing death of Dorian Bluford in 2017 remains unsolved
"Kimberly Gardener didn’t want her cousin to move to Knoxville. She dreaded it so much she once woke up in the middle of the night screaming, she said, after dreaming that he was crying out for help.
But Dorian Bluford seemed excited about the prospect of a fresh start, about being with a man he called his “best friend.” He had a job lined up in Knoxville, and his friend had promised him a car, Gardener said. The man had even purchased a plane ticket for Bluford so he could fly here from Houston, Texas.
Gardener knew her cousin had made up his mind. She knew she couldn’t stop him. They said their goodbyes, and Bluford left for Knoxville on May 30, 2017.
Then Gardener’s nightmare came true.
Someone stabbed Bluford over and over and left him to die on Knoxville’s First Creek Greenway. Within six hours of arriving in his new city, Bluford was killed in the dark.
"I just heard someone yelling, 'He's stabbing me, he's stabbing me,'" said a woman who called 911 from a home near the greenway that night. "It's kind of like a wooded area, so I can't see anything over there."
Bluford, 32, was dead by the time authorities arrived. An autopsy found he was stabbed 37 times — in his back, in his neck, in both sides of his chest, in his arms."

Investigators think Bluford's "best friend" was involved, but he's not talking, and they can't prove what he did or what he knew. They suspect a second person might have been the one to stab Bluford in the back, but they don't have a name, much less the evidence to bring a murder charge."
