Family members charged with helping teen inmate elude police

“Family members of one of the four Tennessee juveniles who broke out of a detention center over the weekend are charged with housing and helping the 15-year-old escapee elude authorities, Nashville police confirmed to news outlets.

Decorrius Wright, 16, and Calvin Howse, 15, were captured by detectives late Tuesday after fleeing Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center on Saturday, Metro Nashville Police tweeted. Wright is accused in the fatal shooting of Nashville musician Kyle Yorlets last year. Howse is accused of an armed robbery, according to a Juvenile Crime Task Force supervisor.

Howse's mother, cousin and a family friend are accused of providing him with food, housing and internet access while he was on the run. They're charged with being accessories after the fact of escape and facilitation of escape. An arrest warrant has also been issued for Howse's sister, Metro police told news outlets Friday.”

Howse’s sister, Jasmine, surrendered herself to police Friday on “outstanding warrants charging her with being an accessory after the fact of her brother’s escape and facilitation of escape,” Metro Nashville Police Department said in a press release.

Three other people, including his mother and cousin, were arrested on similar charges. Marsh’s mother and brother were also charged with being accessories.

Nashville police catch fourth fugitive teen, find him with rifle and boxes of ammo

A 17-year-old boy who was among four teenagers who escaped a juvenile detention facility in November was arrested Thursday, ending a nearly two-week manhunt.

Brandon Caruthers, who is accused of armed robbery, is the last of the four fugitives to be captured after they fled from the detention center in Nashville, Tennessee, on Nov. 30, according to Metropolitan Nashville Police department.

Police arrested Caruthers Thursday at an Antioch apartment complex where officers found a large gun and boxes of ammunition. Two adults, a man and woman, who were in the apartment with Caruthers were also taken into custody, police said.

"On Friday, the prosecution revealed new information in the case. They played a recording from inside the police cruiser after officers caught 16-year-old Decorrius Wright and 15-year-old Diamond Lewis.

In the video, the prosecution says Wright admitted to shooting Yorlets in the arm. Yorlets died after the bullet traveled through his left arm into his chest, hitting his lungs and heart.

More testimony during the hearing included details on Wright's recent escape from the Juvenile Justice Center last year. Outside of the escape, both Wright and Lewis have been written up dozens of times for their behavior in the juvenile detention center."

"We did not realize how unsafe Nashville was until this happened,” Negley said. “You look up statistics, and it’s absolutely terrifying.”

Criminal homicides in Metro Nashville were up more than 35% from 2019 to 2020. The minors arrested in Yorlets’ murder were found with guns that had been stolen from vehicles.

"Two of the teens in this case will be tried as adults, each charged with first degree murder in connection with Yorlets’ death."

Two teenagers charged in the killing of Nashville musician Kyle Yorlets will be tried separately.

Diamond Lewis, 17, appeared in court Tuesday morning, where a trial date was set for October 25.

During the hearing, the judge also decided to sever Lewis' case from Deccorius Wright, 18, who did not appear in court this morning.

Teens plead guilty to 2nd degree murder in Yorlets' murder case

Two teens involved in the murder of a Nashville musician pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree murder.

Decorrius Wright pleaded guilty to second degree murder and aggravated robbery, both of which come with a 25-year sentence that Wright will serve concurrently.

Additionally, Wright with serve 1 year for escaping from the juvenile detention facility in 2019. He also pleaded guilty to theft of property, which brings 10 years of probation.


Wright agreed to a 26-year sentence, followed by the probationary term.

Diamond Lewis pled guilty earlier to second-degree murder as part of the same plea agreement.

Lewis will serve 25 years in prison at 100%, with a small possibility of a reduced sentence in the future.

Lewis and Wright were charged with killing Kyle Yorlets while attempting to rob the musician outside of his home in 2019.
