SABBM:
A group of teenagers escaped from a Nashville juvenile detention center late Saturday night and are still on the run, police said.

Four teenagers, including two accused murderers, broke out of the downtown facility around 9:44 p.m. Saturday while they were on a work detail, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The staff supervisor was distracted by a fight in another part of the facility and the four were able to take the elevator to the ground floor and then escape out a door.

At least 35 minutes passed before anyone notified police of the foursome’s escape, officials said.

This is completely unacceptable.

In the first place, what are accused murderers who are being charged as adults doing in a juvenile detention facility?

Secondly, what are they doing together in any kind of loosely supervised group setting?
It's clear they're pack creatures.

They should have been kept separated from one another at all times, up to and including all of them being housed at separate facilities.

Thirdly, there's absolutely no excuse for the delay in notifying LE of the escape.
None.

Horrendous judgment shown by the facility here at every single turn.
Period.

One can only hope it doesn't cost yet another victim their life.

Infuriating.

JMO.

Yes, its worrisome. These guys will be desperate to avoid going back to jail. They're a big risk for harming anyone who gets in their way.

This article says they were last spotted running down the street after escaping

"The group was last seen running on south 2nd Street (Avenue) towards Jefferson Street, according to police."

This is actually very interesting to me, in 1982, I was doing a college research project for a sociology class. My project was on juvenile criminals, specifically juveniles who committed homicide. This was before the internet. But, I could hardly find any information about juveniles who committed murder. There were a few, but not many.

Now, even my local paper, today, has no less than 10 articles about juvenile killers. One, as young as 14. Society has definitely changed.

Former sociology major here, from the late 70's. Agree. To use the old lingo, our society in the US has been going through some chaos and breakdown over the last decade or more. More weapons on the streets and in homes, too.

ETA: Murder committed by juveniles wasn't unheard of back in the day. It was unusual, though, often related to mental illness, brain damage or an extremely dysfunctional environment/abuse, etc.

Murder suspects Decorrius Wright, 16, and Morris Marsh, 17, allegedly ran out of the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center at around 10 p.m. Saturday night along with two other inmates, identified as 17-year-old Brandon Caruthers and 15-year-old Calvin Howse, authorities said Sunday.

The teens were on a work detail when their staff supervisor left them to address a fight at another location inside the facility, according to police. They managed to get onto an elevator and used staff protocols to ride to the ground floor where they went through a series of doors and exited to the outside.

Authorities said they are considered dangerous and are asking for the public's help in locating them. Authorities said at least 35 minutes elapsed before the Metro Nashville Police Department was notified of the escape.

Wright is accused in the murder of 24-year-old Kyle Yorlets, a Nashville musician who was fatally shot in an alley behind his home in February, according to police. Marsh is suspected of killing 19-year-old Charles Easley in April.

Caruthers had been transferred to adult court on an August 2018 armed robbery case in south Nashville, according to police. Howse was last arrested Nov. 21 on charges of auto theft and gun possession, police said.

ABC News does not normally name juveniles, but are doing so because police said they are dangerous individuals and have released their names and photos. Anyone with information about the escapees are asked to call Nashville's Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600 immediately.

Apologies regarding incomplete title and non-edited post. My fat fingers hit enter by mistake. I reported my post for correction. Title should have included location of Nashville, TN and date of today - 12/01/2019. I’m sorry I made such a mess of it.

Meanwhile, Wright's July 9th assessment report said he was unchanged and did not see anything wrong with his actions. He has been written up 34 times from February to July, with the prosecution focusing heavily on his violent behavior.

On February 20, Wright reportedly failed to follow directions and threatened an officer when he said, "I'm gonna get you when I get out of this cell." Another incident on April 1st described Wright telling an officer, "I'm gonna smack the f*** out of you, you b***."

On April 2, Cartlidge said Wright assaulted a staff member after being told to get off the phone. In two cases in March and April, Wright reportedly kept kicking his door and flooding his cell, one reason because he could not make a phone call. On May 21, he helped peers try to assault a shift supervisor, according to the report.

Holy smokes. Sounds like some anarchy going on at that detention center. Attempted assaults on shift supervisors, fights, escapes, etc. Someone needs to get a handle on things. Meanwhile, Wright, at 16 years old, is already a dangerous, aggressive, alleged killer with apparently no regard for human life and thinks he's some kind of bad a**. I hope they catch these four and I really hope Wright is charged as an adult in Yorlet's death.

Decorrius Wright Credit: Nashville Police Department

Wright is one of five minors between the ages of 12 and 16 who were charged with criminal homicide Feb. 7 for allegedly robbing musician Kyle Yorlets, 24, of his wallet and then killing him when he refused to give them the keys to his car.

Wright’s bond was set at $400,000 in August after prosecutors argued he was too dangerous to be released, local outlets reported at the time.

“We just want to express our extreme disappointment at the inability of the juvenile justice system to keep perpetrators off the streets of Nashville,” Yorlets’ family said in a statement to News4 following news of the prison break.

“We are, as always, concerned for Kyle’s friends who live there in this troubling environment and pray for their safety.”

Marsh is accused in the April 8th murder of Charles Easley, 19, on Lemont Drive in Nashville. Caruthers has been transferred to adult court on an August 2018 armed robbery case from Apache Trail in South Nashville. Howse was last arrested November 21st on Dickerson Pike on charges of auto theft and gun possession.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates wanted to know, "Are they not afraid of juvenile court?"

"From our experiences, they do not a lot of times even think there was any consequences because they are released so fast," Whited said.

"They don't correlate that there was any consequence for them being arrested for the stolen car or the gun."

By law, most juvenile criminal histories are confidential.

But NewsChannel 5 Investigates obtained juvenile crime data going back almost eight years.

While it did not contain names, by cross checking specific charges with the dates of known crimes, we developed unprecedented insight into the path that sometimes leads to murder.

Out of some 35 kids charged with homicide since 2016, we discovered almost two thirds had confirmed juvenile records that should have set off alarms.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked Judge Calloway, "When a child commits a murder - and that child has been in and out of the system -- do you say we failed that child?"

"Oh, when a child has committed murder or has been alleged to commit murder -- and they have been in and out of the system -- I definitely believe that we as a system and as a community have failed that child," Calloway answered.
Broken: TN juvenile justice system 'in catastrophic failure'

***The detention center houses children who face serious charges. They are held there while awaiting trial or a transfer to the adult system. About 40 youth stay at the center at any given time, according to WKRN TV.

How many more people have to die, be maimed or injured, traumatized and robbed before these 4 go to a cell where they belong. There’s no hope of rehab here.

Youth Opportunity Investments, a private detention contractor which has managed the center since 2015, fired three of its employees and suspended one for three days in reaction to the escape, the company said.

"Youth Opportunity acknowledges that several members of its security personnel made improper decisions that, when combined, led to an opportunity for the four youth to leave the facility," the company said in a statement.

These "kids" should definitely not have been kept together, or in an unsecured facility. They have demonstrated that they are stone cold killers.

I bet that we will see a few home invasions, and a string of other deaths in the area, before they are caught.

Epic failure by the staff. Epic.

Brandon Caruthers, 17, was placed on the list after he and three other teens fled. He is being charged as an adult in an armed robbery case from August last year, police said.

Looks like that article was just updated to say 2 of the punks have been caught. Wright is the alleged shooter of Yorlets.

"Decorrius Wright, 16, and Calvin Howse, 15, were taken in custody by the Juvenile Crime Task Force in Madison, Tennessee, the Metro Nashville Police Department tweeted."

WTH? Where were HER parents?!?! She surely didn’t live alone, feed them, etc. why let your daughter spiral down that path?!?

“Metro police the 15-year-old girlfriend of 16-year-old Decorrius Wright was arrested Wednesday on charges that she helped Wright’s ability to remain at large between his escape on Nov. 30 and his arrest Tuesday night in Madison.

The 15-year-old girl’s charges include criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony, accessory after the fact of escape, harboring, tampering with evidence, and false reporting (lying) to police.”
